Nice_Bass Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Got a tournament this weekend at Lake Mattoon, they have some nice size fish in that lake. I hope to post some pictures of a monster never have fished there- results? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 12, 2013 Super User Posted August 12, 2013 I will agree with most everything here as well but a couple items of note- attaching the dui stigma to the DL worries me here in IL- it seems we already get pulled over for anything now and add this incentive and they may go overboard. Also, I do think that the flags actually do help a bit on the lakes I fish- Missouri it is required, and has spread to the popular party lakes I fish mostly here in IL and MO. Just last night, two ski boats coming straight at me on a narrowing channel, one boat had a flag, the other did not. I assumed the one without did not have any skiers/tubers and cut closer to them then the boat with the flags. I could not see whether either had anyone towed at the time. Turns out they both did. All in all, the suction cup flags work, and best yet puts the responsibility on the ski crowd. On a better note- top water bite has be on fire here. Had not picked up a frog for two years and now I don't want to put it down. Average fish size around 18 the last couple of days. Edit- I see the boater has to be in an accident first to be under the new legislation. I guess this is a bit better- but completely pointless as most boating accidents are fatal already and this, for lack of a better phrase, "legislates from the rear" My home water. 25,000 registered boats on roughly 9000 acres, and they're all out on the weekends. The busiest inland waterway per acre in the U.S. is why all this is in question. The biggest problem I have is the Lake County Sherriff patrols for "no wake" and "user sticker" violations. They are not actively looking for intoxicated boaters like on LOZ or Haveseau. My opinion is steep fines and jail sentences for BUI offenders. Not punishing the innocents. I fished on Lake Wisconsin last week. 9500 acres. If I saw 100 boats all day long, it would have been a lot. What a pleasure it was not trying to balance on the front deck while the wakes of 30+foot boats zoom by. 1 Quote

It seems like on Clinton lake here by me, which would be my primary lake, they patrol for the correct reasons, and I have yet to be pulled over there luckily. Pulled over 3 times on other area lakes for nothing other than them checking for everything which is frustrating to me. On a side note- due to Clinton busy waters lately, I have been fishing Friday and sunday nights and the smaller crowds have been amazing. Not sure I will fish there on a Saturday or sunday with the pleasure boat and increased fishing pressure. Quote
bwell Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 never have fished there- results? Yeah, horrible! lol Its a great lake when the fish are biting but that wasn't the case Sunday, over 30 people fishing and only 6 people brought in fish. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 15, 2013 Super User Posted August 15, 2013 Yeah, horrible! lol Its a great lake when the fish are biting but that wasn't the case Sunday, over 30 people fishing and only 6 people brought in fish. That bites Quote

Dont feel too bad- I thought I had them all figured out and was catching some good ones at Clinton; only to get my second skunk of the season. Only had three hours to fish after work, but missed too on top water and broke one off on a hookset with plastic worm. not my finest day. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 15, 2013 Super User Posted August 15, 2013 No more skunk talk guys. What happened to the striper bite Nice Bass? I haven't been bass fishing in about 3 weeks. I'm heading back up north this weekend to try and get some more walleye and crappies. 1 Quote

I'm heading back up north this weekend to try and get some more walleye and crappies. Striper bite is still on- just shorter than what it had been for a couple weeks- numbers went down, size went up, so I cannot complain too much. Topwater bite seems to have come on though for bass for me, so I have been chasing the proverbial dragon doing that the last couple of trips- possibly to a fault... Quote
Nice_Bass Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Dusted the skunk off. This one went 5 -6. Good healthy fish for Clinton. Fish were a bit deeper than they had been last couple weeks but stacked up on points ledges next to really deep water. 1 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted August 19, 2013 Super User Posted August 19, 2013 Nice fish man. Way to go! 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 19, 2013 Super User Posted August 19, 2013 Nice hawg! I did the Wisconsin thing again this weekend. Ol' lady outfished me in size. I caught all the panfish. She got a 22" musky, a beast of a carp which was over 10lbs, and a 17" smallie which she insisted on keeping. I hope they taste as good as they fight. Crappies were all 11"-12" a couple gills and whites in the mix Saturday evening Sunday morning 1 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted August 20, 2013 Super User Posted August 20, 2013 Not yet. Just crappies so far Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 23, 2013 Super User Posted August 23, 2013 You guys jinxed me with all that skunk talk. Might as well have skunked out today. Was with my son this morning on the Chain. (2) 8" bass and a crappie Quote
Nice_Bass Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Bwell, or anyone for that matter- where do you guys put in at Shelbyville? thanks! Quote
bwell Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 We always put in a Wolf Creek but you cant tie on to the dock there, but Eagle Creek would be a better place to put in at. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 2, 2013 Super User Posted September 2, 2013 How was your guys Labor Day weekend fishing? The fishing in my local lake turned on, well for a pressured small lake these are very good catches anyways had 30+ hrs fishing this week managed two 18"ers. 2 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted September 2, 2013 Super User Posted September 2, 2013 Headed north of the border to Delavan Wisconsin today. The bass bite was decent and the pike bite was crazy, although they were all in the 20-28" range. Pike were jumping out of the water grabbing baits. Most of the bass were in the 2lb range Here's a couple of the better ones. 3 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted September 2, 2013 Super User Posted September 2, 2013 Nice to see you get on some fish. How were you catching them? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted September 3, 2013 Super User Posted September 3, 2013 The pike hit everything we threw. One of the bass in the pic was caught on my last Northstar swimjig in Bull Gill with a Cane Thumper trailer. A pike bit it off shortly thereafter. The other one on a jika rigged Pit Boss in Big Texan color. We also got them on wacky senkos, t-rig worms, Reaction Innovation beaver baits and spinnerbaits Quote
Nice_Bass Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I did not even get a chance to be on the water this weekend- wedding anniversary and the crowds combined to help me make to correct decision to stay home. Should be able to make it out somewhere this week. Anyone get any good smallmouth this year? I have yet to catch a photo worthy one. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 Nothing over 2lbs or so. I'm heading up to Sturgeon Bay the first week of Oct. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 4, 2013 Super User Posted September 4, 2013 Nice catches slonezp!! My smallmouth catches are very limited managed only maybe 12" one this year but still took a pic of it. I saw it cruising by about 2 feet from shore tossed a crawler to it and got it. 1 Quote
