Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 What's up with MA now? They don't send an actual license, you have to print...no big deal...but in addition to the mandatory wildlife stamp for $5, they charge a "convenience" fee for purchasing online. I realize that it goes to a third party admin, but that's cheesey. This should be one of the last states in the union with their pockets hanging out. That's it, I couldn't get on the "weiner whiner line" today, so I did it here. LOL Quote
GTrombly Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Yeah it is stupid they charge extra to print it yourself. We should send them an ink fee. Plus it is a pain in the toe to get it in my license holder now, but if I lose I can print more for free. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 Leave it to taxachusetts. I go by the town hall several times a week. No problem to stop in and pick up mine. This is the last year I'll need to buy a MA license. As a senior, I get a discounted rate. At 70 years of age, fishing/hunting/sporting licenses are free. Here's the question. When a license is sold at a town hall, does all the money go to the state, or does the town get a "handling fee"? Do it online, and the town gets nothing. By adding a convenience fee, the state gets even more money. Slimeballs, the whole bunch of 'em. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 17, 2011 Author Super User Posted March 17, 2011 You can still get them @ your Town Hall, Rhino? About 3 or 4 years ago I was working in Waltham and stopped by City Hall and they said they weren't processing them anymore. Went home and tried Town Hall and they said the same thing. I've been buying online ever since. I refuse to wait for someone at Wally World to decide to work the register/desk @ the fishing section. Quote
WanderLust Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I keep a scanned copy on my digital camera and smart phone... That way when my kids lose my paper copy and the wallet is locked in the truck I can make Delta Force Game Warden happy. Quote

I do not know why they pay there employees. Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 18, 2011 Super User Posted March 18, 2011 I got mine at the town hall last year. Town clerk's office. My buddy gets his hunting license there as well. He's going to get his combo (sporting) license on line. Last year he wanted a doe permit for the deer season. He had to go to the Cape where the state had an office to sell them. Long, long line. So he did not get it. If he had got his license on line, he could have gotten his doe permit on line. Apparently the state doesn't reimburse the towns or cities sufficiently so some towns and cities have stopped offering the service to cut expenses. Quote
grampa1114 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 You could go to Walmart-Kmart-Bass Pro shop they don't mind taking your money. Buy some stuff while you're there. Quote
grampa1114 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I know that I can sit at my desk and register my boat, register my trailer, get my Mass license, my Vermont license and my Connecticut license...That's amazing to this old man. Quote
GTrombly Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Yeah you can do everything from home now except fish. I just had to go outside to see when my registration expired. I need to order a new trailer sticker. Quote

I can honestly say that the only time I had the priviledge of bumping into a game warden was back in 1998. That was when you had to have you license in clear sight (pinned to your shirt or hat). I had just gotten my license and forgot all about that and thankfully, I had it my wallet. She was really nice about it. I was working a popper and she waited until I had finished my cast, asked how the fishing was and then asked me to produce my license. I asked if I should get off the water because I didn't have my license in clear sight. She told me to continue fishing because I was the only one on the pond that was catching fish...I thought that was funny...she was really cool. Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 21, 2011 Super User Posted March 21, 2011 I got my Mass license at the town hall today. They did say this might be the last year they handle them. It seems the state wants to cut out the middle man. Some towns, as I surmised, quit issuing them since the dollar doesn't cover their costs. They add a dollar to the cost of the license, as permitted by state statute, which does not really cover their cost. Don't know if BPS or anywhere else will be able to issue them. I have got all my out of state licenses on line, and I do believe they all charged a convenience fee, or some such thing. Quote
GrundleLove Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I know walmart carries them. As well as a couple local bait shops around my area aswell Quote
