nashua fisherman Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 fished the nashua canal. another perch for :-/ me. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Went out today and didn't catch any bass. I thought for sure today would have been good. Caught like 10 pickerel though. The water temp was between 60-63. Its about that time for them to start making their beds, right? Quote
jaystraw Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I'm thinking that even with the warmer water temps, the majority of the fish are still waiting to move in. I'm not sure if its forage related or moon phase related, or both, but it seems like there are no fish in the shallows where I'm fishing. All the fish I've caught have been in almost 10+ feet of water. Of course, our water temps are still in the low 50's, so I"m not expecting a huge rush just yet. But, it warming up fast all of a sudden. Soon enough! Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 yea, I think it depends on the body of water. Almost all my fish have been shallow, but I fish at Powder Mill, which is a shallow reservoir with barely any deep water. So I'm guessing the bass there are more shallow oriented and may even spend the winter in shallow water 6ft and under. Quote
NHfroggin Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Hey nice fish everyone!! Went out today to long pond in danville caught my first LM of the year. bassmaster6 Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 Nice fish guys. I did not get out today either, It was to hot by the time I could of got out there and figured the ponds would of been filled with boats by then. Quote
Push_Button_Bassin Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 The bass were definitely waking up on the pond this weekend. It was nice not catching pickerel for once. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 Went out yesterday and only caught a pickerel. It was HOT out there and the water has warmed up to 64 already. I wonder how this effects the spawn? Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I had the same experience yesterday. The water temp was the about the same. All we managed to get were pickerel. The past two days the bass have been nowhere to be found, but the pickerel bite has been incredible. We were hitting areas that looked like likely spawning areas with different presentations and retrieves. I wonder if the high pressure had anything to do it?? the barometric pressure was 30.33 at the time we went out. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 I thought high baro. Was good fishing, but I could be wrong. I know there were a ton of boats out there this past weekend so that could have alot to do with it. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 From everything I've learned about high baro. it's supposed to pull the bass tight to cover or send them deep and it shrinks the strike zone. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 You could be right, Because I could not catch any. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 went to flints pond in hollis today with the wife after work for a couple hours. we caught a bunch of pickeral in less than 3 feet of water. i had a few big ones and a good sized perch come off but the wife reeled in a real nice one. ended up leaving cause the wind made manuvering the boat kind of aggravating. had fun anyways. sorry, no pics. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Went out today and caught this HAWG at mill at a whopping 10 ounces ;D. I was just glad it was not another pickerel. I did go out late today so I'm hoping that's all it was, Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 nice one unhbass37. the pickeral were out in full force again today at flints pond. we dont mind catching them, to us its better than nothing. i also caught another perch. we are using $1 spinnerbaits from walmart and are having a blast ripping them through weeds, brush and lilypads, learning how to fish them without losing them. having a boat and using braided line helps. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 Nice fish. How do you like the braided line? Are you using a bait caster reel or a spinner? I have been using mono and was thinking of tring it. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 were both using spinning rods. i like the braided line alot except it seems to tangle real easy and if you get a big tangle you might as well cut the line. nots are real hard to pick out. its hard to cut too so weve been using swivels when we know we will be switching lures often. casts pretty good though and pretty indistructable imo. unhbass37 Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 Took my son out today and he wanted to fish from the shore with a worm and he caught 11 blue gills. He was happy. He said it a good way to start the season. There was a guy out on a boat that said he caught a 4 pounder, But I did not see it. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 he caught 11 blue gills thats great. sometimes when im desperate to catch something cause the bass aint biting ill throw on a jig/grub or inline spinner and catch sunfish. the actual thing that got us back into fishing was taking the kids sunfishing. where did you go? seen a bunch being pulled out at the boat launch at mill. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 We went to mill pond. He was doing the old sight fishing. He looks for the big ones and casts there LOL. He had alot of fun. Quote
