fmoore Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I sucked hard in a tourney yesterday, but went to prefish for an upcoming tourney today at Island Pond. I only had 3 hours and I had never been there before, so I didn't have high expectations. The first fish I caught (4-7) is in my left hand, the second (which looks a lot smaller than it actually was) in my right. I ended up with 2 over 4 plus about half a dozen more over 3. Awesome day. All flipping pads with a Chigger Craw. Quote

All flipping pads with a Chigger Craw. Beautiful fish fmoore.Just goes to show you that everyday is a new day when it comes to fishing. Was in NYC over the weekend. No LMB to be seen in the Big Apple but also visited some friends who live on a beautiful private lake 50 mi. outside the city. The fishing was awesome. There was a 30ft dock and a raft 60 ft. beyond the dock.On either side of the dock were lilypads and trees overhanging the water. There were good sized LMB(2.5-3.5 lbs.)hanging around in all these areas and IMO put the LMB I catch in Turee to shame. The most exciting encounter was at 10pm.Pitched a Stanley Ribbit near the overhanging tree and during the retrieve the night silence was shattered by a vicious topwater strike. It sounded like someone slammed the surface with an oar.I literally jumped.Thought it was a pickerel because my line snapped.Rigged another Ribbit and tried again.Another heart stopping strike and this time the poor frog's legs were gone.Thought it must be a pickerel because the LMB in Turee do not do that type of damage to a frog with one strike. Threw out the third frog of the evening, and finally got a good hook set after he clobbered it again. It turned out to be a 3.5 lb. LMB with the worst attitude in the world. I was lucky to land him. The next morning, went out on the lake in a rowboat and fished the lily pads unfortunately, my spinning reel with 8 lb mono was no match for these fish in the pads. I only managed to land two of the 6 that I hooked and that was because they were only about 2.5 lbs each. The other fish, to put it bluntly, fed me my lunch in the pads. Sorry about the long post, but I had a blast and wanted to share it. Quote
badcrawdad Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 hey guys here's a quick video I threw together of some of my catches. Quote
jaystraw Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Nice fish fmoore! got out this AM in the canoe because my trolling motor is out of service. I was glad it was because I caught two 3+ponders and a 4+ . Good moring for a few hours before the wind came in. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 19, 2010 Super User Posted July 19, 2010 That's a good morning, Jay! I'm probably gonna head out for a while tonight. I'm hoping that the cloudiness, and possible rain will wake the big girls up for me. Usually does. Quote
wagn Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Nice Job Jay. I hope you get that trolling motor problem fixed soon. Good luck Shane. I think I'm going to head out and do some float tubing this week at some point. i haven't had the float tube out all year and am itching for a simple day on the water Quote
jaystraw Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Thanks guys! I got back out this evening with my buddy Matt. It was great fishing right from the start with a SMB double. We went on catching fish in deep water (20+ feet) on tubes and senkos for quite a while until the bad weather started to move in. We only made it about halfway back to the launch before the 30 mph winds, thunder, lightning and downpours started. It was pretty crazy, but we made it back safely. The rain I can handle, but the lightning was a little scary. Quote

I drove down to the boat launch and there where 2 guys coming in from the lake in the down pour with all the wind and lighting all around them. You weren't at Stumpfield Marsh were you? Quote
jaystraw Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 No, we were at a little pond in Hillsboro. I just checked the wind speed and it was 29 MPH at one point in the storm on the lake I was at. My canoe was almost surfing the whitecaps heading back to the launch. Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 21, 2010 Author Posted July 21, 2010 Anyone having problems getting notifications by email from this thread? I have not got any lately. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 21, 2010 Super User Posted July 21, 2010 I haven't either. I just figured I messed somethin' up. Quote
NHfroggin Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Ive been looking for a new lake to fish lately and i finally found one that holds decent fish. I went to Phillips pond in sandown yesterday and put 20+ lmb in the boat and no pickerel in 4 hours. Caught most of them flipping jigs into the thick stuff. The biggest of the day was a good 4.5lb couldnt get a pic or exact weight cause he swallowed the jig and was bleeding bad he did swim away fine though. He are a couple others from the day. -matt- Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 I haven't either. I just figured I messed somethin' up. Thanks Shane. Atleast I know it is not just me. Quote
fmoore Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Matt - nice job. Sounds like a great day! Went out for a few hours tonight to the pond I caught that big pike at earlier this year (also where my pb 6-7 came from). Come to find out, there are almost no pads there now so I decided to fish deep >Â That paid off. First C-rig fish ever was 5-3 (baby bass color Zoom fluke). Only fish of the night for me. My friend caught one little guy on a t-rigged tube and that was it. But fishing deep proved to be successful. Once it started getting dark I switched to a 10" Power Worm on the c-rig and had 2 hits before we were chased off the water by the storms. One dropped it and the other I missed. I'm going to have to explore c-rigging more though. It's fun. This fish had something biiig in her belly. Short but fat. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 Nice, fmoore! Yeah, C riggin' is fun. One of my best producers in summer. Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 Nice job boys. Glad everyone is wacking them good. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 22, 2010 Super User Posted July 22, 2010 Wait till you hear Badcrawdad's report from our outing today! Not too shabby! Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 Is it from the same place we are going? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 23, 2010 Super User Posted July 23, 2010 No, but Saturday should be good with what I see on the weather report. If it rains... it'll be even better! Quote
badcrawdad Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Yup, Shane and I had a pretty good day on a new lake yesterday. Locke lake in Barnstead, got off to a slow start but we picked a few chunks. It seemed like all the bass in there were fat. I've never over estimated some many fish weights before. We totalled about a dozen LM. Here's a couple pics of mine, Shane's got some of his as well. Quote
badcrawdad Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Those first 2 were around 2-3 lbs the last one was 3 and change. Then I found this pig!!!!! Quote
badcrawdad Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Can't believe it was only 5lb 11oz. She sure was pretty!!! Thanks again Shane,I had a great time on your boat. Absolutely got to do it again! UNH, I hope Shane puts you on some fish like he did for me!! Quote
Super User Shane J Posted July 23, 2010 Super User Posted July 23, 2010 Yup. Good day, despite the 20mph winds we were fighting all day. We still figured out a pattern that held up pretty much all day. I like unlocking the secrets of a new lake, really makes you think and overcome. What he forgot to mention, was that that last fish was just a little under 6lbs, and had us both fooled for a 6 1/2 all day, but the digi doesn't lie! I had a great time, and wanna do it again! Quote
