nashua fisherman Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 how are you fishing those jigs? are you dragging them on the bottom? Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 I'm dragging them and giving them a hop. I also pause for about ten seconds in between. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 Hey tom it was nice to meet you in person. I stayed till dark and got nothing. They were there but could not get them to bite. I am going to take my little guy tommorow with me and give it another shot. I would like to see him get one. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 it was nice to meet you to. we didnt stick around long because my freind was up visting and we had had a couple brews before leaving the house and it was kinda hard focusing on fishing. my wife just wanted to get out of the house so we figured we would show him the pond. nice boat. looks like it scoots around pretty good. jaystraw Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Have any of you guys hit Horseshoe Pond in Merrimack yet? I hear it's got good bass. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 Yes, But it's better in the summer. I have only caught two small ones so far this year. Last summer I could catch 5 a day on average with my son. It does get alot of pressure from the locals also that live around there. Quote
97ninja Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 has anyone tried robison pond in hudson. i tried there on sunday around 4 it was so windy only stayed 2 hours with no bite this is my first spring fishing(started last summer) i think i was trying to shallow any tips thanks jason Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Have not tried there, but try a jig with a trailer (black/blue) 1/4 ounce and fish very slow. Hope this helps. Quote
wagn Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Finally got a chance to do some real fishing. Only went out for an hour at a small private pond. I did manage to get 7 dinks. All tiny bass but if felt great to feel something on the end of the line. tight lines Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 i have fished robinson pond once but had no luck. its pretty tough when its windy there since there is no cover. beware of the f**king a**holes on speedboats who dont have any respect for people on small craft. place is a magnet for idiots. anyways, my neibor has fished there quite a bit, since he grew up in hudson. he says to fish the back(where the houses are). we are suppossed to head out there sometime soon. i can post the info i have from the clarks book if you are interested(depths, ect). anyways, i went to beaver brook(side of rt.111 hudson/windham) today for about an hour. i found out from a guy from work that they stocked it with trout last week. he caught nine over the weekend just using worms. i tried some mepps spinners today and after losing two of them in the rocks called it quits. unhbass37 Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 I may take my son to Robinson pond this weekend on my ski and fish boat. It looks to big for my little inflatable lol. Tom how is the fishing there? Is there any smallmouth? I am going to get the clarks book soon. I did not even bother to head out today it was way to windy. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 i dont think there are any smallmouth there. the clarks book says; largemouth, bluegill, chain pickeral, crappie, hornedpout, sunfish, and yellow perch. crappie fishing is suppossed to be exceptional there. your inflatable will be fine there. me and the wife went once in a canoe. almost got swamped by some speedboat, but if you go durring the week you should be fine. your probably a little safer in you inflatable than a canoe. i see people fish the middle alot, so with a fish finder it shouldnt be too hard to find the structure to fish. one thing ide like to try there is to float a jig/grub or bucktail jig three feet under a bobber. this is suppossed to be a great way to find crappie. if you set up a few rods like this and drive around with this setup its called "spider rigging" Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 I will tell this my son throws a bobber and a live worm and catches crappie at horseshoe. He will do this when he gets bored fishing for bass. Here is a one of many he caught last summer. This was one of the biggest. Not bad for a 7 year old huh. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 nice. heres our(my sons) personal best. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Nice. Crappie fishing is fun also. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 what types of areas should you target if you are fishing for crappie? Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Me and my dad went out to Powder Mill Pond today.. Didn't have much luck. I caught a nice pickerel and perch. My dad caught a good pickerel and the only bass of the day. Here's 2 pics of his bass, It weighed 5lbs 14oz: Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Well we usually catch them in the middle of the pond in the deeper sections, But remember he used a bobber and a real worm which was set up about 2 to 3 feet down. They school up pretty well in the summer and it's not uncommon to catch many in the same location. It's cool to watch them kill the bobber and drag it under. WOW thats a hawg. Nice one. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 nice fish!!! at the pond we usualy go crappie fishing at we usualy fish for them around brush growing out of the water. we have also caught them in the middle. weve caught all of ours on jigs and when the fish are in the right mood its non-stop action. we have caught over 50 crappie in less than two hours once. Quote
Yakfish Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Got skunked at Haunted Lake in Francestown yesterday. Not so much as a nibble One of the most exciting days fishing I ever had was with the feisty pickerel on Powder Mill. Top water bite was insane! No bass but that Ribbit took a beating! Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 23, 2009 Author Posted April 23, 2009 Did you catch the pickerel? I am sick of them now and the season has just begun. They ruin my lures. I have not been out all week. I just can't fish well when it's windy, My inflatable is all over the place LOL. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Ya pickerel make me mad. There is no rhyme or reason to their behavior. You can catch them in the most random places. One time I was trolling and the pole that I wasn't using had a spinnerbait on it and the line was in the water just enough for the spinnerbaits blades to get moving. It was only about a foot from the boat and out of nowhere a pickerel slams it and almost rips my pole into the water. It seems as if they follow no distinct pattern or behavior. They just kind of cruise around and attack anything that moves. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Gotta question that has to do with pickerel. If you are catching pickerel in a certain area, does that mean that bass will probably shy away from that spot? because I've heard that LMB don't like to compete with other species for food. For example, I've heard that if SMB are present in the same body of water, LMB bass won't go deep because those are the areas that SMB usually inhabit. And they won't be able to compete for forage because SMB are obviously faster and better swimmers. Quote
