Nixstyx Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Had an interesting day of fishing with my dad. After a couple slow weekends of bass fishing I went out trolling for salmon on Winni today. 3 hours after sunrise and still no bites, so I decided to try a little deeper and prmptly hooked into a nice lake trout. Then, around noon, after a couple passes near a rocky point I moved a little shallower. At first I thought I was catching bottom because all four rods in the boat bent over. Turns out we trolled right through a group of active smallies. We landed 3 nice smallmouth and the 4th threw the hook while we were reeling in the others. I've been told when smallies start to hit lures at a steady trolling speed they're gearing up for, or are already in, the prespawn period. After that we cut the motor and caught a couple more casting, but we had to be off the water by 2 pm. They were right in the rocks 20 feet down, and water was 49 degrees. They were all in the 2-3 pound range. I'll be on that spot next weekend for sure. Never did catch any salmon Quote

unhbass37 Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 Got out today for a few hours. First place I hit was Hudson Speedway pond which was a waste of time. I don't believe there to be any fish in there. Then I hit OTTERNICK POND and caught 2 bass and one pickerel. Bass were decent 1lbs 14oz and a 1lbs 10oz. No pigs but it's something. Hope everyone else is doing well also. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 i got to admit trout fishing isnt really my thing. still fishing with powerbait is pretty boring to me, although that trout tasted good. i might try slamon fishing next month. http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Fishing/atlantic_salmon.htm i have a good feeling about otternic this year. it seems like the weed kill may have actualy helped the fishery. the pond used to be 2/3 weeds by summer so im hopping the extra room will allow the fish to grow a little bigger. fmoore Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Started out at the CT River around noon today. Missed a few fish, caught a couple pics and a smallie which was in 4 feet of water a 1/2 mile back in a setback :-/ All bites came on jigs Picked up and went to a lake a little closer to home around 4ish. Ended up with 6 smallies and 2 largemouth there. All but two smallmouth came on a Zara Spook! Can't beat the topwater bite. Quote

unhbass37 Posted April 26, 2010 Author Posted April 26, 2010 Yeah that place is a waste of time. I could not even find bait fish on the fish finder and that is not a good sign. It also looks really contaminated. There are alot better place to try for sure. Quote

SausageFingers23 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Is there any shore fishing I can do at Otternic..?? I think you're options are pretty limited from shore. I have only driven down to the launch briefly though. There are others on here who can probably provide a better answer. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 26, 2010 Author Posted April 26, 2010 Just the launch. It is not the best place to fish either. Personally the best place for shore fishing is Mill Pond. I would just wait a few more weeks though. I'm sure fishing will pick up there. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 2 days ago I fished the Hudson speedway pond and got nothing... Not even a bite.. i caught a bass there once over by the inlet on the speedway side. i wouldnt waste my time there either. Personally the best place for shore fishing is Mill Pond. I'm sure fishing will pick up there. the canal is good too. weve done best for bass at the mill yard entrance to mines falls. also, sandy pond off of lake st has some bass if your limited to shore fishing. we caught a bass, a crappie and a few pickeral at otternic last night. fmoore Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Thanks guys! I fish out of a 1989 16 foot Deep V Tracker. Not my first choice, but my dad bought it new so it costs next to nothing (for me anyway). And as to the pike, my tourney partner's 8 year old son just caught an 11 pound 3 oz...2 oz bigger than mine. Looks like I gotta get a bigger one Quote

I like you can fish almost that whole pond, then you also got the Merrimack as well.. Not to mention like you guys said, also fish the canal.. I have had good luck last year shore fishing Arlington pond.. Caught more from shore than out in the boat.. Quote
