SausageFingers23 Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I have yet to try an ugly stick. I always considered them cheapy's as well. That quantim torsion seems pretty nice, although the rhino rod thats also 20$ was junk, replacement with the st croix. I got another ugly stick today. I like using the same rod because of the familiarity. Ive become accustomed to picking up the soft strike with them. These have always been good for me. I tried a Rhino as well. They are garbage. Two of the eyes broke within a week and the two-piece always separated when I cast. Ill never buy one of those again. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 got out to the nashua canal yesterday to do some shore fishing and caught a little one on a 3-1/2" floating minnow. then i went to a private pond in hudson and caught two more. one got caught on a tree in the water and i lost a spinnerbait. to make things worse (and to also remind me why i hate shore fishing so much) i broke my rod trying to shake the fish/spinnerbait from the tree. i bought a new uglystick lite today and am going to pre-fish the river in gofstown tomorow. see everybody who's going sunday. check out the weeds in the canal. unhbass37 Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 Got some internet access up here in Maine at my sons hockey tournament. Just had to check out how everyone is doing. I miss fishing already LOL. Will be back at it Sunday night hopefully. Nashua Fisherman sorry to here about the rod and also I agree about how bad those weeds (milfoil) are. It almost impossible to fish not unless you deep. Have fun this weekend. Let me know if you want to go next week some time. Quote
3H Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I can't stand shore fishing either. Compared to fishing on a boat its night and day. I barely get any casts in because I always get my tackle tangled up in trees, grass, bushes, EVERYTHING. On the matter of gear I just bought one of those cabela's rods that are on sale, I didn't realize though the 7 foot rod I purchased was one piece don't know how thats going to fit in the car. I bought a ton of rapala lures then some jigs and spinnerbaits from *** -.- and a shimano baitcasting reel Always wanted to try one. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 took the shakespear for a test run today and hated it. too stiff, not sensative. im going to see if i can exchange it tonight for another. I can't stand shore fishing either. Compared to fishing on a boat its night and day. I barely get any casts in because I always get my tackle tangled up in trees, grass, bushes, EVERYTHING. us to. you cant beat a boat. sometimes its like x-mass picking all the lures out of the trees in the water. you can tell from the water where all the shore fishermen fish by looking at the tree's. my wife found a nice shallow diving crankbait last month. unhbass37 Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 How did you do fishing the river? This lake up in maine is awesome, but don't think we will be fishing as there is to much going on to fish. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 i caught one bass. 1.1#'s. wife caught a big pickeral. we were fishing spinnerbaits trying to cover as much water as possable. we found a couple of spots we were going to go back to tomorow with t-rigged worms. bummer, tournement is canceled due to water level. i traded in my uglystick lite for a shimano carbomax. seems like a nice rod. i will test it tomorow. Nashua Fisherman where is this private pond located in hudson. PM me if you want. Just curious if its my little favorite spot ;D.... Someone was out at my spot and threw a bunch of wood, logs, boards to get accross the stream making a mess. Was def ticked when I saw that and didn't bother to pick them up afterwards. My thoughts always leave the outdoors the way you came upon it. To everyone whining about shore fishing common guys thats where practice and accuracy comes into play right. Makes you a better fisherman from in a boat after a while shore fishing. 8-) Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Well I got out today at Mill pond and caught 3 bass. Biggest was 3lbs 14oz, 2nd biggest was 2lbs 0oz. Wind was strong at times (Glad I decided to bring the anchor). I also got a chance to meet Bassmaster6 who was there also. He was still there when I left, But he told me he already caught 4. Good day all in all. Here are some pictures. Quote
catchbig0bass Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 unh - nice fish... def mill pond is a nice spot. nashua fisherman - pm replied. Quote

unhbass37 Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 Got out again tonight and caught six. Mostly 1.5 pounders which was nice. Only a few little fellas. Biggest was 3lbs 8oz caught on a senko in 14.5 feet of water. Here is another tip I want to throw out there. I use MONO (cheap zebco to be exact) for everything and with a senko is makes it fall slower which in turn seems to work very well. Hope everyone did well this weekend. Here is a picture of the biggest. Quote

Hey nice fish guys, it was nice meeting you UNHBass, i left not to long after you, caught one more around 2 pounds, it was tough fishing with the wind blowing me around all day. -matt- Quote
catchbig0bass Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Got out this afternoon to my spot and caught 4 total. All lm biggest was just shy of 3lb. All in all fun. I was using mainly motoroil color senko 5", suprisingly the 3lber I grabbed while skimming it across weed beds. the others were on just after it landed and were falling. I would say in the 4ft range depth wise. Nothing worth pictures tonight. Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 Took my oldest son to Robinson pond in the Bass Tracker (He hates the inflatable) and we caught seven total. Biggest was only 1lbs 9oz. I still feel there is a few big ones in there somewhere. We had a blast though. It better then talking to yourself out there LOL. Good father son time. Here are some pictures. Quote
NHfroggin Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Nice fish UNH, i went out this morning to mill pond again, the wind was blowing me around so i went down the canal, caught over 15 fish but they were all dinks, only two of them were over a pound, all fish were caught on senko's and jointed rapala's. UNH how far does the canal go? does it open up to any bays or anything? i made it a little past the highway bridge(?) and then turned around. -matt- Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 I really don't know as I have always fished the pond area.I know Nashua fisherman likes to fish the canel. Send him a PM. Sorry I can't help on this. Derek. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 the canal is 3 miles long. there is a wide spot about 2000 ft after the highway bridge. it might be easyer to put from the foot access at mines falls on perry ave although you will have to carry your boat for a bit. you should probably check it out on foot first. there tons of fish in the canal. unhbass37 Posted July 16, 2009 Author Posted July 16, 2009 Matt remember to try the drop offs. If you have a fish finder thats a big help. Where I pointed out to you is some of the spots. Also as you enter the canel I've caught (2) 4 pounders there. It drops off right by the tree. Hope this helps. Nashua Fisherman is right I heard there are some big ones in the canel. Stick with it. Good Luck. Derek Quote

Good Luck.Derek I took someones advice about trying the mouth of the canal by the overhanging tree about a week ago and got skunked. Ill have to work it more and see what I can do. Mind you I am fishing from shore as well. The spot I like to fish from shore on mill pond is the other end about half way down the channel that leads to the nashua river. On another note went out with a friend on the nashua river last night. Absolutly nothing was biting. Once it got dark we were throwing top water. Tiny Torpedo (I was using) vs. jitterbug. 4-3, all little sunnies but hey it was fun competing haha. Quote

Nashua River and Mill Pond can be tough at times but theyre just so convienient that I cant stop trying my luck. Ive done ok at Mill Pond but the Nashua River has my number for sure. I like them both much better in April and May when the mill foil doesnt resemble a carpet. Quote

unhbass37 Posted July 16, 2009 Author Posted July 16, 2009 The river is a little tough, but they are there. When the milfoil takes over it gets worst for sure. As far as mill pond goes I can't complain. I have been killing them in there, but keep in mind I usually fish it daily. There are a ton of big fish there. Keep at it guys you are all next to catch a hawg. Quote
