unhbass37 Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Though it doesnt sound like anyone had any luck on the water. Any tips youd be willing to share for getting them to hit at stumpfield? Thanks. Is it a shallow flat? If it is I would go all top water. If there are any drop offs at fish them also ( use a jig or senko). Thats where the bigger fish should be. That drop off may only be 1 or 2 feet, But that could make a world of difference. Hope this helps. Quote

I only had a couple hours so I concentrated on the lilly pads and stumps but it was only 3 feet of water. Stumpfield Marsh is generally pretty shallow from what I could see in the limited areas I was able to fish while I was there. Caught a couple but nothing of any real size. Quote
SausageFingers23 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 No hawgs today because I didn't bother to go out lol. I think I quit fishing after yesterday. I was out on Powder Mill for 6 hours and did not catch one bass. I used many different lures, retrieves, and fished many different types of locations, cover, and structures. I know the feeling. But I still give in to the urge and head out any chance I get. Its kind of like golf. All it takes is one good shot to keep you hooked. Quote

3H Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Stumpfield marsh is dope. I love goin there. Tons of potential Didnt get a chance for a second shot at the marsh this weekend. Though it doesnt sound like anyone had any luck on the water. Any tips youd be willing to share for getting them to hit at stumpfield? Thanks. If I remember correctly theres a bridge that seperates stump field marsh correct? If so go under the bridge and there will be stumps ALL over the place and its real shallow. All I used was pumpkin seed worms from wallyworld and caught quite a bit, 5 smallies and a few pickers. Quote
SausageFingers23 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Exactly. I was fishing the stumps on the far side of the bridge. Caught some decent size pickerel in there and a couple tiny bass. Im going to make another trip when I can spend more time on that side of the lake. The entire thing looks like it holds fish. It does seem to get ALOT of pressure though. Quote

It does seem to get ALOT of pressure though. For some reason when I went we were the only boat on the entire lake for the greater part of the day. All of the bass boats were on the opposite end of bridge fishing there. The guy I went with has caught a few 4-5 pounders out of it. All just using pumpkinseed bait.Went back to the island pond place again and got skunked :-/ The freakin lilly pads created such a hassle for me I barely got any casts in. I don't like shore fishing at all. Anyone got suggestions on good bait that DOESN'T get hung up on 10 pounds of lillypads? Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Well I convinced myself to go out today (Mill Pond) and I wish I didn't all I caught was one very small bass. I did not get out till 4:30pm and fished till 8:30pm. There was a guy out there killing them on the scum frog. I saw him catch 4 and they were not small either. I had one, But was to lazy to tie one on LOL. Now for fishing lily pads I suggest either a senko texas rigged weedless or fish next to them with a crankbait. Just don't throw the crankbait right on top of them. If there is no way to fish beside them then throw a scum frog. Hope this helps. Quote
3H Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Would flippin and pitchin help by any means? Most of the pounds/lakes around me have 50%+ lillpad cover, and things below that are weed and crap. WHAT Was even WORST was the fact when I got there, there was a small bass lookin right at me the entire time while I was trying to fish, as if he was mocking me! I tried casting to him but all he would do is go after my swivel. What a jerk > Then a picker was near me and tried getting him, that was not luck either. :-/ Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 That was funny. Nice post. LOL. You could try that. Fishing lily pads can be tough, But there are usually some big fish in there. Stick with it. Good Luck Quote
NHfroggin Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Hey guys got out this morning to a small pond in epping and put a hurtin on them, got there at 7 and fished till around 10. Caught 12 bass all on watermelon senko's, and missed about two dozen more, for a small pond(less than 5 acres est.) it holds a ton of bass. After this i went to Massabesic lake and shore fished with the gf didn't catch anything. On the way home we stopped at every pond/stream/lake we passed and threw senkos at it for a while, we had some luck mostly pickerel and an over aggressive garden snake ? . Overall a good, fun day fishing!! here are some pics from the day -Matt- Quote

I tried casting to him but all he would do is go after my swivel. What a jerk > Thats a riot. I've had that happen to me as well. Its so frustrating looking down and seeing that fish staring back at you. Ive had reasonable success throwing spinner baits into the pockets in the pads. Let it sink for a second and then rip it through there. Unhbass' suggesstion is also a very good one. Quote

What a jerk > Then a picker was near me and tried getting him, that was not luck either. :-/ When I have been fishing lilly pads latly I have 4" black slugo's which when hooked properly are weedless. I throw them boyond the lilly pads, on top or sides and let it hit the bottom. Almost all baits with small ripping action hits the lilly pads underneith and bounces back so they don't get stuck. You have to rip them 10" tip sweeps so to speak and let them fall again. This has got me really good success. Quote
catchbig0bass Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Got out on lunch today and fished some of the lilly pads and weed beds and pulled out this monster. Still don't have a scale yet so hard to tell the size but it was bigger than my last PB. tail hung about 6" past my elbow so id say probably 24-25" some where and really fat. Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Now thats a HAWG. Nice lunch break huh LOL... I say thats atleast a 4 pounder plus maybe bigger. NICE CATCH! Thats a private pond correct? Quote

Thanks. Glad to make it into the HAWG class finally haha. Ya its a private pond. Well if you get caught at there someone will kick you out. Its my work so I get a green light so to speak. You might be able to access it from the backside of the industrial park tho. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Went out today for 4 hours and was once again unable to catch a bass. Fishing has been terrible for me lately. Anyone know or heard of Tim Mceachern? I was scrolling through lunker bass pics on the charlie moore website and this guy had a couple pics of different bass weighing in the 7.5-8.5 pound range and then he had one pic of a bass that weighed 10.2 pounds. These bass were caught in NH. I'd love to know where this guy fishes. He never lists the lake he was fishing but there is probably a state record in there somewhere. Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Ya I would like to know where he fishes to. I went out last night and only caught one little fella. Not sure what is going on either. Going to try some new lures and different retreives and see if that helps. Keep the faith Bass_Tard things will get better. Quote
catchbig0bass Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 fishing was slow for me for a while myself. went about 2 weeks that it was like that, barly any bites. I actually just slowed down my presentation. They seem vry lathargic right now. Im using darker colored worms and senko's T-Rigged and a lot of times just deadsticking them. The one big fish I caught earlier was just deadsticking a purple powerbait twirl tail. Next time you go out try using worms and such and have really slow retrieves. couple turns let it sit, see if this will get some more action. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 went out on foot today with my son and got my first hit on a snagproof frog. i didnt get the fish but it was pretty cool to watch. we also saw unhbass catch a couple from his boat. fishing has been slow for us too lately. Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 Got out tonight and ended up with 5 total. Biggest was 2lbs 6oz. I did catch a 1lbs 9oz. All fish were tight to cover and caught on Senkos. Nice seeing you out there Nashua Fisherman. Good luck in the tournament this weekend. I am going to try to fish up in Maine on my wifes uncles lake in between my son's hockey games. He told me there are some big ones in there, But I will be fishing from the shore so I'm not expecting anything. Here is a picture of the 2lbs 6oz. Quote

SausageFingers23 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I got out for a bit last night with a buddy as well. We caught 8 bass and 2 pickerel. The biggest was just over 2 lbs. I found that they were very tight to cover and a bit sluggish before the sun went down. Those fish were caught on worms and sluggos fished slow. I did notice a ton of bait fish in the water hugging the weed patches and structure, though I couldnt get the bass to hit anything other than soft plastics before the sun dissapeared. Threw on a yozuri shallow running crank once the sun was low and had some fun with it. I noticed an almost immediate change in behavior once the sun was behind the trees. The fish became much more aggressive, came out of cover, and started to cruise the open water shallows. Quote
unhbass37 Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 Put a hurting on them today. Caught 9 bass. Mostly 1 pounders, But a few little fellas. Biggest was this nice hawg. 4lbs 2oz. Another fun day. Here is a picture. Quote
SausageFingers23 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Nice! What seemed to be the bait of choice? Quote
