nhbassin Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Hey Shane, Is the parking lot downriver of the powerplant usually plowed or do you have to drag your boat through the snow and park on the street? Im probablly going to take my jon boat down there real soon. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted January 20, 2011 Super User Posted January 20, 2011 The parking lot is almost always plowed, and most of the time the ramp is, too. There's a couple guys who fish there that run their plow through there. Today, it wasn't plowed, but the parking lot was. Yeah, I was out there today in the rain. Awesome day, too. The big largemouths were lovin' my Bitsy Bug jig/ Rage Tail Baby Craw. Caught 8 LM, and 4 SM. Two of those LM were over 5 lbs. Here's a couple pics. Quote
troutguy Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Shane and NHbassin, Is the powerplant you speak of the pennichuck powerplant. Ive been looking dieing to do some open water fishing. I dont have my kayak up here, but if possible is there shore access to this spot. I also remember from a post a while back that the pennichuck spot was illegal to fish, or that you would get chased out of there. Let me know cause id love to get out soon. PM me if you need a fishin partner one day! Quote
nhbassin Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Hey troutguy, the powerplant we are talking about is in Bow on the Merrimack River. I believe it is legal to fish there. Unfortinately there is nowhere to shore fish around it because the shore is all fenced off. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted January 20, 2011 Super User Posted January 20, 2011 It is 100% legal to fish up there, just don't let 'em see you set a foot on the shore! Quote
clr9933 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Me and NHbassin are on our way to the power plant despite the fact that it is currently 10 degrees out. Praying for some of those 5 pounders like you caught shane. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Some of my friends think i am crazy to be fishing this time of year. I think they are the crazy ones sitting on their butts all day watching tv. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 No doubt, Nashua, that's what I'm sayin! Quote
Super User Shane J Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 By the way, I wanna know how you guys did today up in the river. I don't think they were pulling water (my office is on Dunklee Rd. right behind the plant), so finesse is probably what it would take today to get anything. Please post how it went. Thanks. Quote
nhbassin Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Shane, We did pretty well today on the river. clr9933 got a 2 pound smallmouth and a little largemouth both on a bitsy bug jig with a trailer. I got a 2.5 pound smallie on a jig with ragecraw trailer and even got just under a two pounder while "walking the dog" with a topwater. I bet I am the first person in NH to catch a topwater bass in 2011! There was a decent current today and despite our lines freezing and our reels getting all icy, it was a good trip. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Nice to hear you guys got on some fish! That's great! Sorry, though, I got a topwater fish two weeks ago up there. It was crazy, but on the other side of the foot bridge, every once in a while, I see a fish blow up on top, so I had to throw a Shad. All pearl Rage Shad worked real slow along the bridge parallel, and I got blasted by a smallie. It was awesome. Quote
nhbassin Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 haha, you beat me too it then. I thought that was crazy getting them to hit topwater in these temps. Quote
nhbassin Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I didnt post any pictures this year on the forum, but here is a slideshow of all of the 3 pound or larger bass that me and clr9933 caught in 2010. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmgN1wr1FbM Quote
Super User Shane J Posted January 25, 2011 Super User Posted January 25, 2011 Great job, you two! Looks like it was a good year for you. Quote
troutguy Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Anybody get out on the water lately? I can't wait to get back out there and tighten some lines. Does anyone know a spot with open water somewhat close to nashua with shore access that can be productive. I'm dieing to see if I can pull a few in considering I've never really fished past november with any success (aside from the occasional ice fishing trip). Quote

Nashua Nev Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 not me , between work , shoveling , wife , kids and life in general there has not been any time. Maybe ill take a few casts at passing cars while i am shoveling the roof on the house sat and sunday. That should suprise someone? Have a rubber lizard land on the windshield while your driving down the road. Obviously just kidding. Quote
nhbassin Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 After our first sucessful trip to the powerplant on the merrimack, me and clr9933 have tried 3 more times and have not gotten a single bite. There was very little current the past few times and the water was real cold. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted February 9, 2011 Super User Posted February 9, 2011 Where is the power plant? is it on a lake or the merrimack? Quote
Triple D Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Any one have any insight on what is good type of boat/canoe, that one person can easily move and can use a trolling motor? Thanks ahead of time for your answer. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I have a 12 ft x 36 inch wide jon boat / flat bottom with a 50 lb thrust trolling motor. it is for sale / trade. ( when i find the one i am looking for) I am looking for a wider 12 or 14 ft flat bottom jon boat, my old 10 footer and this 12 footer live in the back of my pick up. i weigh 160 and have no trouble throwing it in the water and back into the truck after duck hunting or fishing. my 2 cents worth Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 10, 2011 Super User Posted February 10, 2011 I can easily maneuver around in my 10' jon (has a 45lb thrust trolling motor), with my huge assed tackle bag and 4 rods, and haven't gone swimming yet (knocking on wood). Oh, and Deak, the powerplant is on the Merrimack. Quote
SausageFingers23 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I've been to the powerplant discharge on a couple of occasions this winter (in single digit temps). Nothing so far and my STX froze up BUT Ill keep going because I hate being stuck inside. Quote
Triple D Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I was just watching some youtube videos about the strike king rage series, and to my surprise i see a picture of badcrawdad! Nice job getting yourself into that video. Quote
Triple D Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 The video was Monster bass II by rage tail, if any one was curious. Quote
