badcrawdad Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 So at the biggining of today I had no intentions of fishing. Then around noon time a guy I used to fish with all the time calls and wants me to meet him and his brother at a place we used to hammer them at. I haven't be doing good at this particular pond at all but since I hadn't seen him in awhile I decide to go ahead and get all my errands done early so I can meet them. Just as I'm getting ready to leave he calls and cancels. Well now I WANT TO GO FISHIN! So i decided to go to a different pond, one that I just fished last week for the first time in awhile and did quite well. I get there and start fishing and for almost an hour its a ghost town not even a nibble. Then another friend calls. while I'm talking to him a get a nice hit on the Rage Tale Eeliminator. I set my phone on the seat and play the fish. I get a good look and its a nice one, a solid 4+lbs. Get it beside the boat and as I reach for him I start to sit down on my phone. Not wanting to break the phone I lean forward to grab the phone and my fish is gone!! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! Now my buddy is laughing his butt of as he can hear the splashing and me yelling. I brush it off, get off the phone and cast again. BAM fish on, this one's not getting away. A nice 3.5 lber on the eel again. Sweet back to back casts. I get a nice pic on my phone and release it. Now I take a look at my phone and the pic is gone! This is not my night! Again I cast to the same area and another bass (3 consecutive casts) 3lber. Picked up 4 more on the eel all between 2 and 3 lbs. Then they just disappeared. I decide to head to another area of the pond. On the way I rigged a RT lobster on a keel wieghted hook. Once I got to the new spot I threw the eel right next to the weed line and set my rod down. Picked up the other rod with the craw and threw it out deeper near some logs and set the rod down. turned around picked up the first rod and fish on. I get maybe 3 turns of the reel and my other rod shoots across the boat and before a can grab it it goes right over the side. Now panicing I drop my reel with the eel and a fish and try to grab the rod with the end of my paddle but its gone!! So I pick the rod with eel back up, to my surprise fish is still on. I get it almost to the boat and see he's got another line tangled around him! So I lip him as quick as I can and start pulling in the line by hand. Good news is I got my rod back, bad news is fish is gone as well as both lobster claws. Once I get the eel fish unhooked and released I begin to deal with the cluster of rods and line now laying in the boat. Somehow in all the comotion a third rod (that I wasn't even using) ended up broken! AAAHHHHHH! Just when I thought things were getting better. At this point I have 6 in the boat all between 2 and 3.5lbs, but lost 1 over 4, 2 others and now this mystery fish. I can't go out like that so I replace the lobster with a craw and throw back out deep near the logs. Picked up 3 more in the 2.5-3lb range. Ok, about time to leave, just one more cast. Set the rod down took a drink and as soon as I pick my rod back up KABAAAAM! This thing feels like I'm hooked on the log but its pulling me around. After what seemed like 5 minutes I see her and she's beautiful. 6.5 lbs, ok now things are better! And now I have my first RAGE TAIL HAWG! and a broken rod. Quote
unhbass37 Posted August 11, 2010 Author Posted August 11, 2010 Hello all! I'm new here and just thought I'd say hi! I live in Milford and have been fishing NH waters for many years. I'm always looking for new spots and to read others stories about certain bodies of water. I'm always looking for people to fish with! I'm sure I'll be around for awhile! Welcome aboard. Great people to share info on here. Hope to see you out there some time. Quote
unhbass37 Posted August 11, 2010 Author Posted August 11, 2010 Here's another pic Nice one. Congrats. Quote
NHFisher Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Here's another pic Nice fish! Sounds like an adventurous outing. What lake were you fishing? Quote
jaystraw Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Nice Hawgs!!!!! I've put up a new post for another get together. Here's a link: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1281530494/0 Quote
badcrawdad Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Here's another pic Nice fish! Sounds like an adventurous outing. What lake were you fishing? Turtle pond. That place was so out of control with milfoil I stopped fishing there. Then I went there with Shane and a friend of his last week to check it out, and its much much better. milfoil is still pretty heavy but not bad at all. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 11, 2010 Super User Posted August 11, 2010 Honestly, I can't believe the milfoil turn around at that place this year. You can actually use your trolling motor now, and get within casting distance of the shore, when last year you couldn't by this point in the summer. I might actually fish there a couple more times this year, especially after seeing that pig outta there! Quote
NHBASSMASTER Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 badcrawdad, nice bucket man! Congrats! What do you have for a boat? Thanks all for the welcomes! I'm going up to Maine this weekend with the wife, she is shopping, I'll be fishing! I'll let you know how it goes! Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 12, 2010 Super User Posted August 12, 2010 Aw, buddy. My friend just caught a 4.5lb smallie in the Saco River on a Rage Space Monkey last week. Some good fishing up there. Quote
badcrawdad Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 badcrawdad, nice bucket man! Congrats! What do you have for a boat? Thanks all for the welcomes! I'm going up to Maine this weekend with the wife, she is shopping, I'll be fishing! I'll let you know how it goes! I've got a coleman crawdad. Its small and sloow to cross the water, but it treats me good, and geets me to where the big girls are! ;D Quote
NHBASSMASTER Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Nice. Like you said, get's you to where they are! That's what matters. I went out today and got myself a little treat! Bringing this up to Maine tomorrow and will be slaying the Buckets/Bronzies! I will post some pictures when I get back! Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 13, 2010 Super User Posted August 13, 2010 Cool ,man. I got a perfect running 2.2hp Merc that would go real nice on the back of that if you're interested. I'll get off it for $250. Quote
NHBASSMASTER Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 Shane, how new is the motor? What's the condition? Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 13, 2010 Super User Posted August 13, 2010 I don't know what year it is off the top of my head, but guessing around a '99 or so. I know it was winterized and not used for a couple years before I bought it for $400 three years ago. It starts on the first pull every time, and has the gas tank on it (holds about 1 1/2 gallons and runs FOREVER on that). I used to use it on my jon boat, but switched to electric, now I don't need it. Quote
badcrawdad Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 did I see that boat on craigslist? It'll do you just fine. The last couple years I was using a canoe. I got the crawdad just because its on a trailer and easier to transport/launch vs. having to load everything back in car and strap on the roof. Its also alot more stable when standing. Hope to get a 14ft deep v for next year but time will tell. Now go get yourself some pigs and share some pics. You should grab that motor from Shane and join us on the 27th! Quote
NHBASSMASTER Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 That was on Craigslist. I talked to guy down to a price I couldn't pass up. Came with a relatively new 36lbs thrust trolling motor, just got a brand new deep cycle marine battery and I'm ready to roll! Registering tomorrow morning and heading north! I will definitely post pictures. Quote
unhbass37 Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 Gregg Lake any good this time of the year. It says in the clarks book smallies only. I am looking to try it out with my son tomorrow. Any feedback would be great. Quote
jaystraw Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 It's good, but it can get busy there this time of year. There are more LMB's than SMB's in there from what I have seen. good luck! I got out yesterday moring and had a great time from 7am-2pm. caught about 11 LMB's with 4 of them being over 3 pounds. None over 4, but it was still a great morning with good action. Everything on a 5 " senko. Could not buy a bite on anything else. unhbass37 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 Thanks for the help Jay. That Clarks book is so old I feel some of the info from it now is incorrect. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted August 14, 2010 Super User Posted August 14, 2010 the clark book has been updated this year i believe, i bought the new one, it's got a green cover, and I have the older one with the blue cover, and the new one has quite a few updates. Quote
unhbass37 Posted August 14, 2010 Author Posted August 14, 2010 I was told it was the same, but I could be wrong. Thanks for the input. I will check it out. Quote
