Hello all, Just found this forum today and decided to join up. My Dad and I used to Bass Fish the local tournament trail in the '80's and '90s around Mercer Lake, and the Assunpink's. i haven't done anything since he passed in '92 and am thinking about getting back into the swing of things this year.  I hear Assunpink is a trophy lake now, it always was for us but oh well, wondering if Mercer Lake is still good and if Spuce Run and Round Valley are worth looking at anymore.  Sorry for the long post, and if anyone remembers me as part of Joe and Scott back then, I'd love to hear from you..

Welcome to the forum.  I haven't fished any of the lakes you mentioned but I know a few guys who fish Round Valley every once in a while and do pretty well.

Welcome

A buddy of mine went to stay with relatives in jersey for about 3 months during the summer. He said he fished at 3 different spots and every fish he reeled in was deformed or had tumors.

Welcome to the forums. I have fished Assunpink and it's OK. NJ DWF has designated it as a "Trophy" bass lake. That doesn't mean it is full of big bass. It just means they have changed the keeper limits in an effort to produce bigger fish. My home fishery is the Manasquan Res. in Howell and I think it's among the best in NJ. Along with some nice LM, I've caught smallies and hybrids there.

Mike,

He was talking about contaminated fish, not contaminated women. LOL You are watching too much TV. BTW, I think you have a secret crush on "Snookie" don't ya? ;)

well i know this forum is about the lakes in NJ, but there actually are some highly contaminated water sources. For instance the passaic river has toxins associated with the biproduct of agent orange dioxin. Im not knocking on NJ because I live there and love fishing all the areas but it does have its share of contamination. On a side note the passaic river is by far one of my favorite places to fish you wouldnt believe the size of LM SM bass, pike, catfish, carp, stripers, and anything else you can think of that ive caught out of it. One of my new favorites has to be lake aeroflex (formerly waywayonda). Great fishing up there, but it is a ride for sure.

Yea there is a chance he was being sarcastic, describing his poor fishing in that way but i didn't get that vibe.

This is just me personal opinion, i really dislike NJ. I've been there 3 times and every time-EVERYWHERE- i went smelt horrible. like garbage.

But if the fishin' is good then by all means i'de love to go.

I agree with you that it smells (well atleast some of it). If you get back to NJ try to get out to one of the bigger lakes. Once you get out of the busy northern NJ area I would bet that you wouldn't even believe its NJ. From my experience fishing alot of the northeast not much compares to some of the better spots in NJ. Anyway im barely able to contain myself for the fishing in spring. I tried to get out in NH to hit some rivers that were covered in ice, but I just cant handle the cold. Plus the fishing was far from productive given that I got the big goose egg on all my adventures.

Relocate America lists two NJ towns in the "Top 100 Places to Live in the US".

Most of NJ is beautiful and covered with farms and suburbia. You can't judge the whole state by Newark and Camden. JMHO
