Rand Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I was hoping to make a trip to Lake Newton this winter. I live in Indianapolis so this won't be too much of a drive. Does Newton have horsepower restrictions? I have a Tracker with a 50HP Merc. I also have a 12' jon boat but no outboard for it. It is a trolling motor set up. Are there other power plant lakes near Indiana in IL that don't have HP restrictions. Any info will help. Need to fish for sure. Rand Quote
bonzai22 Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Newton lake has a 25 hp limit. Ive never fished any other power plant lakes in the winter but newton is probably worth the trip. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 8, 2010 Super User Posted December 8, 2010 You'd better check not only hp restrictions but the fact that many powerplant lakes require a gas powered outboard. That is the case with Lasalle, Braidwood, and Heideke up in northern IL. BTW these lakes are closed from Oct-March. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Newton will allow trolling motors only. As a matter of fact you can have a larger outboard on it but not use it. Quote
Triton21 Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Newton will allow trolling motors only. As a matter of fact you can have a larger outboard on it but not use it. You can use the big motor to launch and load boat. You cannot have it running away from the launch area. Kelley Quote
Rand Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 Thanks for all the input guys. Newton is probably where I would end up being its closer to Indy. Is it open all year? Rand Quote
