NateFollmer Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Francho we don't want you New Yorkians ruining our time... Ha just kidding. I'll PM when we figure something out (or just keep watching). Is Raystown too far for you guys? I know it's BIG but if we launch from Synder's Run or James Creek we can stay back in the no wake areas. There's some big old fish in the coves. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=raystown+lake&sll=40.442407,-78.039343&sspn=0.010354,0.030899&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Raystown+Lake&ll=40.399379,-78.073311&spn=0.172299,0.363579&t=h&z=12 I dropped Lat/Long markers at the access's. Edit: The markers didn't stick, here is Snyder Run http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=raystown+lake&sll=40.442407,-78.039343&sspn=0.010354,0.030899&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Raystown+Lake&t=h&ll=40.442505,-78.035588&spn=0.021524,0.045447&z=15 and here is James Creek: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=raystown+lake&sll=40.442407,-78.039343&sspn=0.010354,0.030899&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Raystown+Lake&t=h&ll=40.366885,-78.151159&spn=0.021548,0.045447&z=15 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 Hey, you PA guys are always up here wrecking our waters, its only fair I come down and stick some dinks. Can spot you a mile away with your licenses tacked to your hats, LMAO. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 Raystown is a little over 5 hours, doable, but I'd need a cheap room. Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Raystown is a little over 5 hours, doable, but I'd need a cheap room. Super 8 here in Burnham would run you like $60 a night. I'll find you a room once we figure out where we're fishin'. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Raystown is an over-nighter for me too...but not out of the question. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 20, 2010 Super User Posted July 20, 2010 Get the honeymoon suite for DVT and I, LOL. Quote
oprcsr Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Raystown would probably be a bit far for me, but I do hear great things about it. I'd have to see. Here is some other information about Marburg, it isn't electric only as you can have a max of 20 horse power. http://www.dizzyducksden.com/marburg.html http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/codorus.aspx Quote
Walz Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 To that area of Raystown would probably about 2hrs or so for me. I would be willing, and could maybe swing an over nighter if need be. I was actually just up there this past weekend, but at the far southern end of the lake. Took me about 2 1/2 hrs to get there going the turnpike. I was camping with family and really didn't get much time to just fish. We were down past mile marker 28 in the no wake area. I managed a couple largemouth and a catfish in only a few hours of fishing. The water was really muddy down that way, and I would have probably done better if I had had the time to search up the lake a bit further. Quote
oprcsr Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Not sure if any have went here.... http://www.fish.state.pa.us/water/lakes/opossum_lk/00opossum.htm Pretty tiny though. And I've heard good things about this lake, but I think you guys are west rather than east so it would be a ways away (1.5 away from me) http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Blue+Marsh+Lake,+PA&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=54.137829,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Blue+Marsh+Lake&z=13 And there is this one that I know nothing about at all:) http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Long+Pine+Run+Reservoir,+PA&sll=39.926062,-77.44297&sspn=0.103603,0.154324&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Long+Pine+Run+Reservoir&ll=39.939949,-77.433443&spn=0.051791,0.077162&z=14 Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Gotta watch fishing those small Reservoirs inside those state parks. Most of them are fed by mountain run off and are FREEZING and are only good for trout. They will say there's bass in them, but they are almost impossible to catch nor are they any size Edit: Marsburg looks nice, that would be a heck of a drive for Francho though HAHA. Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Get the honeymoon suite for DVT and I, LOL. No spooning! Unless its on the water! BAZINGA! Quote
oprcsr Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Oh haha, Opossum lake is drained for work. Guess that rules it out:) Quote
Walz Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 And I've heard good things about this lake, but I think you guys are west rather than east so it would be a ways away (1.5 away from me) http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Blue+Marsh+Lake,+PA&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=54.137829,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Blue+Marsh+Lake&z=13 Blue Marsh is an option, but being that is one of the only unlimited HP lakes is the area I have heard it gets pretty crowded during the summer. So much so that if you don't get there before 6am you may be waiting several hours just to launch your boat. Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Actually the Susky near Shamokin Dam is so wide and slow it's like a lake, but I don't know if that's too far east for the group. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Blue+Marsh+Lake,+PA&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=54.137829,79.013672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Blue+Marsh+Lake&ll=40.886849,-76.785936&spn=0.042761,0.090895&t=h&z=14 Maybe we should just do the "Bass Resource PA Lake Tour 2010 - 30 lakes in 30 days" Quote
oprcsr Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 If we are doing a poll I'd vote for Marburg. But I'll try to make it if I can no matter where it is. Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Although I will unfortunately not be joining in, due to distance and other commitments I want to chime in. I suggest NOT going to Raystown this time of year. Raystown is an extremely tough lake to fish in the summer. Between all the shad and the grass you may all have your work cut out for you. Quote
ChrisBass Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I'm in depending on date and place. Don't have a boat but I'm willing to buddy up with some one who does. Quote
jkoch Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Raystown is an over-nighter for me too...but not out of the question. I might be interested, schedule permitting. Maybe we could carpool. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted July 21, 2010 Super User Posted July 21, 2010 I might be in for this depending on the time and place. Raystown is nice but tough to fish and there are some hugh boats in that lake. Allen Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 21, 2010 Author Posted July 21, 2010 ill create a poll with all the suggestions once I get to work around 11. I should have a spot in my boat Chris. Its a 14 ft. V bottom. Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 21, 2010 Author Posted July 21, 2010 Ok, here is a poll. We can then poll on a month and date after we figure out where we are going. We can always do multiple meet ups too if we all cant make it. If we do pick Raystown though, I think we should wait until end of Sept. or the beginning of Oct. The LMB should be good AND the Stripers might be leaving the depths (plus the boats will be gone). Quote
ChrisBass Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Sounds good to me Nate, boat beats bank any day of the week..lol. Quote
boatnik13 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Don't know what happen to my post so I'll try something diffrent. looks like September! right? Now the lakes Redman is weedless w/ 32'base but steep drop offs and two bay flats. Williams is weedless with a 30' base and its upper 5th off limits to boats + its muddy up that end. redman has structure and williams lacks structure and williams is still limited to just cartop boating ( no trailers yet ). Each lake is armed with big stripers, walleye,ch cats, bass,. Yes the lakes mentioned on the survey allows your gas motor on the boat as long as it is off ( speaking of the question about redman in the post.). Next marburg > I no nothing except it gets draw downs.  Blue Marsh > That will be to much for small electric motors.  Long Pine Res. Does anyone know of this hidden lake? Not much parking.  Pinchot lake > tea colored and most productive in its upper weedbeds, Possibilities exist... Susky > to much for a electric only boat. Raystown> if we stay in snyders run or james creek area ( no wake ). Walker > just had a fish die off and thow its better days are in the fall but limited to the deeper half. Surprised no one mentioned Holman lake. Got parking, structure and the fish and not tea colored. Quote
oprcsr Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Never heard of Holman, but I'd be up for that one as well. Having looked it up I'm gonna have to go there sometime. Bass, musky, and trout sounds fun. Quote
boatnik13 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Perry co. Little Buffalo State Park but I guess DCNR renamed it HOLMAN lake just like they did to Pinchot that was once called Conowego lake or somthing like that. Quote
