zim Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 A park map with launch locations can be found on the national parks website for the C&O canal. I tried several ways to get this to post with easier info to get to but it sees the link and won't let me And google C&O Canal for lots more info Quote
Super User Munkin Posted August 17, 2010 Super User Posted August 17, 2010 Send a message to basser89 as he can best answer this. Personally I would not want to be out on the UP with that boat. If you want to know of a good place in the area to fish with that boat send me a PM just don't post about it on the open forum. This spot is really good for small boats and has some nice bass and crappie but not alot of parking. Allen Quote
Super User Shane J Posted August 17, 2010 Super User Posted August 17, 2010 Unless you're suicidal, do not bring a small boat like that into the Potomac, unless you wanna stay in a back, protective cove and not move. That place changes on an instant, and will destroy you. Quote
bigdog321 Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Thanks for the valuable info.I guess I'll keep looking for a good lake or pond. I just got my boat a couple of months ago and have only taken it out to clopper and black hills so far. Thanks again. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 18, 2010 Super User Posted August 18, 2010 Been trying to think of some spots but can't really think of any which is not rough fast water or not filled with pleasure boaters. Some other places to take it would be Lake Needwood, Cunningham Falls, and Greenbrier. Quote

When I didn't have an outboard on my 16' jon boat, I could put my boat on there when the conditions on the Hancock river gauge are 4.5' or lower without any problems with just my 43lb thrust trolling motor. Any higher than that and you better have a back up battery or 2 if you plan on getting back up to the ramp, otherwise you're floating down to Shepardstown. The last I checked, the levels were running right around 2.5' which is well below normal flow. Not sure how stable a craft like that is but be sure to keep an eye out for jet boats. I've come across a few that have no regard for others and will go blowing right by you running flat out. The only other spot that MIGHT be ok that I know of is Williamsport but the boat traffic there is worse than Snyders Landing. Hope that helps some! Quote

Greenbrier has been horrible all year! You catch a lot of 10" dinks but the biggest bass I have caught in 4 trips this year was 13". Allen Quote
