bassinboston Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I'm fishing the same places that some of you are talking about (Lex Res, Horn Pond, Nutting Lake). Almost everything I caught this year is on either a jig with a twin tail grub trailer or a spinner. Most of them seem to be reaction bites as the fish whack it almost as soon as it starts sinking. I'm hoping it should pick up soon supposed to be a warm weekend! Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 20, 2010 Super User Posted May 20, 2010 Lex Res used to be really good. A couple of years ago they treated it and killed a lot of vegetation, especially on the west bank. The recent floods also have had an adverse affect on it. I did manage a 3 plus a couple of weeks back on the eastern side of the beach, but most have been consistently in the 1 lb range on jigs and spinner baits. Quote
bassinboston Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I havn't had nearly the luck there this year that I have had in the past as well. I figured it was cause of the flood as you said. Any of you guys have any tips on the concord river? I seem to have serious trouble catching fish there. I'm not sure if its what i'm using or the spots where I'm fishing. I usually put in near concord lumber in concord. Is there a specific way to fish your bait (as in up current, down current, or cross current etc?) pulling a spinner across current just doesn't seem natural to me. Quote
CRFisher Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Boatless so I've only fished the Concord a few times, I stick to the Charles for better shore access. However, I've had equal luck with spinners cross current, against the current and with the current. They'll be typically focussed on items coming downstream if they're feeding, but they'll notice a spinner coming close to them regardless of the direction. Quote

I've actually never fished the Concord yet, but have fished rivers. My buddy got an 8 lb hog out of there last fall which makes me want to fish it. As far a river fishing, I kind of take the fly fishing approach to it. I like casting a trick stick or a very light jig into the current and let it drift into pockets along the bank or across a piece of structure like a rock which breaks the current. Bass usually will be in some type of slack water - behind the rock, pocket, eddy. Spinners and spinnerbaits retrieved as CRFishers points out is deadly as well. It mimics a washed bait fish. Hope this helps and good luck Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted May 27, 2010 Super User Posted May 27, 2010 Can anyone say "post spawn blues"? The bite has been slow...I've been managing a couple an outing fishing real S L O W with jigs and worms. Only pickerels with spinnerbaits. Hope you guys are doing better! Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 3, 2010 Super User Posted June 3, 2010 Well I managed to get out for a couple of hours today. I didn't see too much activity on the water's surface so I tried worms and jigs. Nothing. I switched to a spinnerbait and got pay dirt. 3 landed and 4 came off (7 strikes total). The 3 that were landed were barely hooked and all were relating tight to cover. The bites weren't aggressive and I think the bass were just P.O'd that something was invading their territory and they just wanted to "scare" my spinnerbait away. Anyway, 3 caught and 4 missed still works with me. Tight lines all. Quote
CRFisher Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Finally got out today, Charles below the Watertown falls. Just one fish, a 2 pounder on a DT-6. Threw everything and the kitchen sink. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 11, 2010 Super User Posted June 11, 2010 Hit a few nice fish today at Houghtons Pond. All in all 2 hours, 4 fish. 1 really nice one got off about 20' away after a jump. It looked like it was pushing 4 lbs. All were caught on a jig with a 3" single tail grub. Skies were overcast and all the fish were pretty much active. The bite was aggressive, 2 taps and set the hook. The 3-4 lber pretty much tapped twice and hooked itself. Water was warm and plenty of fry around the shallows. Switch to a spinnerbait and caught 2 pickerel before I left. Very aggressive bite and almost gut hooked 1. Good luck guys. Quote
wbassrogue Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 its been a mediocre year for me, from the bank or from the water. ran into a nice pike but no size on bass yet, a couple close to 2lbs..I can honestly say i havent had a double digit day yet. bass is tough in MASS. Quote
Boots Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 just caught 17 bass at nabnassett pond in westford, bassin isn't slow for me this year Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 15, 2010 Super User Posted June 15, 2010 just caught 17 bass at nabnassett pond in westford, bassin isn't slow for me this year Sounds like it was a great outing. Nice job, man Quote
nashua fisherman Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 just caught 17 bass at nabnassett pond in westford, bassin isn't slow for me this year did you fish it from the beach/launch off of Birch st? Quote
SamCFBC Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 i was having some very good results and then the bite slowed down for a week or so and i would go out and only catch 1 or 2. got skunked once from the shore. i fished a tournament last weekend, tried out top water frogging for the first time and only caught 1 3 pounder. pretty exciting though. i think my shore fishing days are numbered though. i just can't go back to it after getting in any type of boat regularly. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 i launch from the dam can you tell where the dam is on nabnassett? we launched from the dam on freemon yesterday and caught 5 bass and a sunfish. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 25, 2010 Super User Posted June 25, 2010 Fishing has been awesome since I last posted in here. I've been catching some nice quality bass on trick sticks, spinnerbaits and jigs. The bite has been agressive with the exception of a couple of slow days after a front has moved in. The bigger fish have moved out to weedlines adjacent to deeper water and long casts are needed to reach them from shore. They seem to be along the edges with some over the tops. The smaller fish are still shallow and relating to cover and structure. You'll see cruisers along the spawning flats where the remaining gills and seeds are still spawning. I know that panfish spawn multiple times, but it seems like this year has been an extended period. I'm also finding that the bass are a little bigger this year which is a good change from the past 2 years. Good luck to you all...tight lines Quote
xjma99 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 After a pretty good early season I hadn't done much fishing at all since I've been rotating down to the gulf coast for work....the summer is flying by! Finally got out on the Nip last thursday evening, and caught this 8.5# 23" largie!! I guess good things come to those who wait...or dont' have much time to fish?? Caught it on a PopR. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 21, 2010 Super User Posted July 21, 2010 WTG XJMA! Nice looking fish! Quote
pudmunk Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Newbie from the merrimack valley fishings been meh, but worth it everytime me and my buddy have been catching 3-5 total(all under 4lb) between us on our last few trips. Ponds, Resi. and the Merrimack in dracut/methuen line (93 bridge) Here's a 3lber I caught night fishing (bleeder) PB is 3.5 (just started fishing in May and I am OBSESSED!) Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 24, 2010 Super User Posted July 24, 2010 Awesome pudmunk! There's nothing wrong with 3 plus lbers and 3-5 fish per outing isn't bad considering we're in the dog days of summer. Congrats on your new PB! I was experiencing a bit of a lull fishing subsurface. I switched to top-waters and have been having a ton of success not to mention a ton of fun...LOL Keep at it buddy. Quote
