Going to head out this weekend to work on my jig fishing and i have a bunch of options for fishing different depths.  At this point early on in the season, what is the ideal depth you would fish right now?  I just got one today in about 6' of water on a jerkbait, but if you were given the option to fish areas from 4 to 30' of water - where would you choose?

I would find a shallow pond, that would eliminate deep water,I live in southeastern ma. and we just had some heavy rains and a lot of flooding, so the water around here is going to be high, cold and muddy, which makes for a tough bite, if I were to fish a deeper pond I would still stick to about 6' of water throw the jerk bait and maybe a minus1 and if that didn't work through a jig into laydowns.

Was away last week, and haven't fished in a couple of weeks, but I had been catching them in 3 - 6 feet of water.   But, it depends on the bottom composition of the pond you will be fishing.

Can't catch them ever in deeper than six feet of water in my favorite pond.  Thats as deep as it gets.  Rocky shoreline most all of the perimeter of the pond.  They rarely, if ever, move away from the rocky shelf onto the muddy bottom.

Have tried a few times here and there but only once did I catch a few away from the rocks.  I may have stumbled onto a brush pile because there are a few that other fishermen have made using Christmas trees.

We'll be hitting the Quabbin tomorrow AM for a few hours.  I'll let you know.  :)

I fished Ashumet yesterday while a small tourney was going on and one guy caught 2 fish in 25ft of water on a heavy spinner.

The water was 50-52degrees. It was my toughest day in a long time. Partly my fault though, I was being too stubborn to throw jigs in deep water.
