fmoore Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 A couple smallies from the other night..... Speaking of Gregg Lake, anyone know it well? Seems like most here are from the eastern/central part of the state, but I went shocking a few times over the summer with some guys from the NH Fish and Game office here in Keene and one of the places was Gregg Lake. Seemed like a nice fishery. The eastern shoreline has a lot of nice wood with excellent deep water access where we netted a lot of largemouth. Nothing bigger than 3 if I remember right, though. The large cove in the NW part of the lake has some real nice rocky shoreline for smallies, too. Anyone know anything else about it? I meant to get there over the summer but never got around to it. jaystraw Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 That's a nice couple of hawgs you have there. Nice job man!!! Quote
Super User Shane J Posted October 24, 2009 Super User Posted October 24, 2009 Nice fish, man. That must have been cool, shocking with Fish and Game. Quote
fmoore Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Nice fish, man. That must have been cool, shocking with Fish and Game. Yea. It eliminates water so quickly it's not even funny. Sometimes great looking water will produce nothing and not so great looking water will produce well. Only problem is, when you net 20 bass in a 20 minute period you get to wondering how many fish you're not catching when you're actually fishing. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I don't normally tagret SMB. But yea I'm pretty close to Greenfield. The lakes and ponds that I have been to this year are: Powder Mill Pond (Hancock-Bennington), Gregg Lake (Antrim), Edward Macdowell Reservoir (Peterborough), Pleasant Pond (Francestown), Halfmoon Pond (Peterborough), Pool Pond (Rindge), Mountain Brook Reservoir (Jaffrey). Those are all awesome places to fish (I think the Halfmoon Pond you are talking about is in Hancock?). Did you try fishing offshore structure once the summer got really hot? I was having a lot of luck fishing deeper around depth changes with lizards on jig heads and senkos wacky style on a jig head. Yea I guess it's Hancock. It's like right on the border of Peterborough and Hancock near the BU sargeant camp. Quote
llPa1nll Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 I dont know how many of you got out yesterday. I did the weather was great, however for me the fishing was so so. I boated about 9LM and 1SM. More importantly I broke a rod on a hookset. :'( :-/ :'( One of my oldest rods, not sure or not if I hit the trolling motor but he did take the lure right at the boat. It was hard work getting bites. I didnt get touched with using soft plastics. I had most of my bites come on reaction type baits. However there wasnt a pattern viable that I could see. I hope you guys got out and did a lil better than I did. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Ha! I'd be so happy if I could catch 10 bass. You say they weren't hitting soft plastics, do you have any idea why that may be? and what kind of reaction baits were you using? Quote
jaystraw Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I'm guesing, but i think jerkbaits and jigs would probably be doing pretty well. Also grubs on jig heads could be effective for smallies. Quote
llPa1nll Posted October 27, 2009 Author Posted October 27, 2009 Most of the fish I got came on 3 lures. Rattle Trap, jig, vibrating blade type bait. I knew with the bluebird skies it was going to be real tough, also with the water temps of 47°F, that didnt help either. I tried jerkbait, swimbait, buzzbait, crankbait, spinnerbait, chatterbait, zara spook, tube, grub, spider grub, among some other soft plastics none of which worked. It was rough going but sometimes that is what fall fishing can be. Tight lines all, hopefully it will be better this weekend. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 The bass should be shallow at this time of the year right? and they may retreat deeper when cold fronts move through? Quote
llPa1nll Posted October 27, 2009 Author Posted October 27, 2009 The bass should be shallow at this time of the year right? and they may retreat deeper when cold fronts move through? From what my experience has been the fish will start the day off rather on the deep side of breaks and flats and as the water warms through out the day they move shallow. However depending on the weather this could be a flawed viewpoint. Quote
wagn Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Well. I'm done for the year guys. Pulled the boat out yesterday and am going to winterize it this coming week. I know I could get a few more days out on the water, but things have been getting real busy and I've had such a good year that I think I'm gonna just call it quits. You'll still see me around the boards. It will just be a little less often then usual Quote
Super User Shane J Posted November 1, 2009 Super User Posted November 1, 2009 I hear that, Wagn. My boat is all winterized, and all my gear is out of it. I had a great year, and now I'm ready for Spring already. I may try ice fishing a little for bass at my little local pond, see how that goes, and maybe take the edge off of the winter months. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 im not done yet. wife caught a pickeral yesterday at a pond weve fished many times and only caught crappie at. Quote
jaystraw Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I got out from around 11:30am to 3:00pm today on a small pond in Sutton that is loaded with bass. Me and my buddy probably caught about 20 bass total, mostly on senkos, suspending jerkbaits and tubes. I was suprised at how shallow the bass were hanging out. Most were in less that 3 feet of water.. The water temp was 52 degress. Good luck whovever is still at it!. Quote
unhbass37 Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I'm done to. I had a great year myself. Quote
llPa1nll Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 I was out 7:30-3:30 today myself, I did ok. I boated 10 fish total missed 2 bites. I played around with my new swimbait that I could not stop casting out. All the bites came relatively early on during the day. As it got later, I think the fish felt that air temp getting cooler. I think that the day to get out this weekend was Saturday, being so warm and windy and ahead of the front. I think I may try and get out a few more times and then winterize my boat myself. Tight lines all. Quote
Push_Button_Bassin Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Drifted a senko on Kingston lake and managed to boat a 1lb and 2 lb LMB in the kayak. Should have brought a camera, but didn't think I'd get the bite. Quote

Super User Shane J Posted November 3, 2009 Super User Posted November 3, 2009 I got a nice fix yesterday afternoon. I took the jon boat down to the water for a couple hours, and it was slow, but I landed 2 bass, one was about a pound, but the other was a chunk, at 3lbs, 10oz, she made my day for sure. Both bass were caught on a jig and baby craw. Also caught a huge pickerel on a wacky Senko. Then the wind really kicked up, and I didn't dress for it so I called it a day, but I'm actually headin' back out in about an hour. The weather has sort of stabilized, and the sun is still warming the water quite a bit in the afternoon, so there is still some action to be had, and I will soak up as much as possible till it freezes. Quote
llPa1nll Posted November 3, 2009 Author Posted November 3, 2009 I plan to get out this weekend if the weather is decent and I might put the boat away after that. I just dont have much time and its a chore to winterize my boat. I hope you guys are still getting some bites. Tight lines all. Quote
fmoore Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Caught 17 smallies on Saturday morning. I've heard rumor of a tourney on the CT River on Sunday that I might just have to get in on ;D Quote
llPa1nll Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 Wow!!! 17 Smallies great job Fmoore. They are not a top tier fish in the fisheries I target so I dont ump into them much however when ever I do I really enjoy it. Mind if I ask what you got them to bite? Quote
fmoore Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Absolutely not! I caught all 17 on a green pumpkin tube with a half ounce head. Pattern for the day was rip rap in 10-20 FOW with a couple fish hanging out near rocky drop offs. I tried the drop shot for maybe a half hour with nothing. A friend supposedly caught 28 pounds/8 smallies throwing a jerkbait at/flipping shallow wood on Saturday. Quote
llPa1nll Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 I got out today for a shortened day out. The weather was beautiful, the fishing was tough.I fished from 11-2 with one fish moved into a corner of the lake and caught 5 real quick and got another 2 so 8 all together. Thank god for that one corner or it would have been a brutally slow day. I think I may hang it up for the year, we will see what next weekends weather brings. Tight lines all. Quote
