NHfroggin Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 hey lpainl i drove past the exeter river yesterday and there was open water not a ton but its gettin there Bassmaster6 Quote
telecaster Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I'm gonna stop by the Pow-wow and see what that looks like tody.I hate this snow, the snow was allmost gone in my yard and then we got another foot Oh-well.. Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 21, 2007 Author Posted March 21, 2007 Yea, its been pretty brutal. To get more snow in one storm so late than you have had all winter. It just seems a hard slap in the face. I have got Cabin Fever big time. I have about finished organizing my tackle to go back into the boat. need to get on and find some new batteries, for the trolling motor. Then I should be good to go. Yakfish Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 lPa1nl, give me a heads up when you see some open water on Canobie. I started working in Methuen a few weeks back and pass it every day so I'm looking forward to fishing some new waters. Don't worry, I'm strictly C&R Â Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 23, 2007 Author Posted March 23, 2007 I hear you NHguy. I will give you a heads up when I see open water... Quote
telecaster Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I took a ride by some of the Kingston ponds yesterday. Kingston lake,Greenwood pond,Country pond, still have ice but it wont be long for them. Powwow river is open, both sides of NewBoston Rd. ramp, you could put a boat in there, there is a little ice in some of the shady coves. Pretty sooon... Quote
Yakfish Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Yeah, things are definitely softening up around here too. If the temps will stay up and the  snow would quit we should be in good shape soon. I'm hanging in there! Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 As of last night Cobbets and Canobie were still frozen in getting some more open water around the edges but for the most part it was still iced in. Believe it or not I actually saw people out ICE FISHING on Cobbets Saturday afternoon. I thought they were pretty foolish for attempting that endeavor. Come on Sun! Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 Anyone looking at some open water yet? Cobbets, Canobie, and Ottarnic Pond. I visited all of these within the last 2 days and all are still iced in. Anyone have any good news? Anyone been out on the water yet? Anyone stuck some NH Bass? Quote
Yakfish Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 I'm planning to take a look at the Wilton reservoir tomorrow but it'll probably look just like Canobie did when I swung by it on my way home this afternoon. Â I'm picking up my new kayak this weekend and that'll just make the itch even worse but hopefully I can stay focussed and chip away at my honey-do list to make more time for what really matters once things open up. You said it best lPa "MELT d**n YOU MELT!!! " Quote
telecaster Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 Greenwood lake was about half open yesterday,Kingston lake had some open areas but still mostly ice. Any  of you guys try that P-line  Evolution? They have it at NBS,I was gonna try it on my jig rod. Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 Good news guys I went by Canobie Lake this AM and a majority of it has open water. I will need to inspect the launch to see if that is open but the main lake was 60% ice free. Cobbets on the other hand still was Iced in. I didnt try that new model from Pline. I read in a link in the Line section here on the forums that fluorocarbon doesnt have the low stretch qualities I thought it had. Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 Hrmmm Nice lookin pond I am not familiar with Wilton at all might have to look that up in my Clark's. Once the temps get Warmer we should have a get together all of the NH fishermen and women (Vroom22). Just to get out on the water and meet everyone for a nice day of fishing.... I am getting ready for a day of fishing Sunday hopefully Cobbets will be open if not I will be heading over to Canobie lake. Quote
nhbassin13 Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 I am from brookline nh and often fish lake potanipo. It is a very busy lake for boaters but after 5 pm the traffic dies down and fishing becomes very good. I have had very good luck with senkos and crankbaits. My father has caught a 7lber out of there and to this day its the biggest bass hes caught. Quote
Yakfish Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Welcome aboard bassin13! I've fished Potanipo once and only managed a couple of dinks but I've heard that there's some fatties in there. I plan on visiting it again this year since it's only about 10 minutes from me. Have you been out yet this year? Most of what I've seen is still iced in but there's a few places that are open. I'm heading out tomorrow and lPa1nl was planning to as well so hopefully some good reports are forthcoming. Quote
nhbassin13 Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 no i havent gotten out this year but i hope to soon, hopefully it will be a good year. Good luck and let me know how you do Quote
nhbassin13 Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 nhguy have you fished wilton resevior yet this year? my father and i started fishing it last year and were amazed at the amount and size of fish that are in that small pond. Quote
Yakfish Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 The reservoir was still frozen the other day but I can't wait for it to open up. It's one of my favorite spots because of the reasons you mentioned plus it's got good shore fishing along most of it and it's practically next door to me. I can't wait to get on it with my kayak and get to some of the spots that I haven't been able to reach from shore. Got skunked today on Honey Pot in Amherst. Small pond but supposedly holds some nice fish. Â :-/ Oh well, the season is very young and it was just good to get out and get some casts and break in the new yak. Quote
telecaster Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I stopped at Greenwood pond yesterday, the ice is out there.I stood there and cast for a bit didnt catch anything but it was nice just standing in the sun casting Kingston lake  still had quite a bit of spotty ice on it,but it didnt keep one guy in a row boat from going out. Quote
llPa1nll Posted April 2, 2007 Author Posted April 2, 2007 Hey guys, Well the Ice had to be broken through at the launch again yesterday. A good skim coat remained approx 3/4 of an inch of ice. It didnt slow us down. We got out on the water yesterday around 9:15 am water was colder than I thought it would be with temps at 34.5°F. I thought we were in for a slow day. I was happy to see my fishing partner land 2 quick ones when we got to the main lake on a jerk bait. I then landed one on a jig. We ended the day catching a total of 9 fish. I caught 6 biggest being 3lbs and my partner caught 3 his biggest was a shade under 3lbs. It was a great day to get out on the water. Oh its on NOW! Oh yea I forgot to tell you guys that this was at Cobbet's Pond. Quote
Walkingboss Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Went to 'Canobid' Sunday and water was  41-43 degrees depending where you were.  Morning/early afternoon was pretty slow with the high sun and no wind.  Things picked-up in the afternoon, but then cooled off late with higher wind and some cold air.  Funny thing is I was geared for smallies and missed 1 near the boat, but both fish I did catch were largemouth.  All the action was in at least 15 feet of water off ledge drops bottoming in the 25-30 ft. range, with some of the boulder flats being the exception.  There's a good one not far from the Wizard statue.  Top ranges from 14 to 9 feet and is surrounded by deeper water on two sides. This was my first day on Canobie (non-ice fishing) and I was impressed by the structure.  Looks like it could get weedy come summer.  I'ts 20 minutes from home and I'll probably hit it until all the ice is out on some bigger water.  Bow Lake still had too much this past weekend, but that's where I'll set up shop once it clears.  Best smallmouth fishing overall in the state for my money.  Decent largemouth too.  I also fish Merrymeeting (aka the dead sea) in New Durham and a pond near me that is not to be named for fear of death.  Merrymeeting can be a chore because it is crystal clear and the fish are DEEP, but there are some true chunks there.  Angle pond in Sandown is great too.  I've never pulled truly huge fish, but a steady diet of 2-3lb smallies and equal sized largemouth.  HUGE crappie if your into that.  I'm not really into Kingston Lake, but I've only fished it in summer and it was full of pleasure boats. Anyway, I'm a newb here and wanted to chime in. Quote
Walkingboss Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Oh...the P-line....I HATED the extra tough....Maybe their other stuff isn't so bad. Â Not a big fan of flourocarbon yet. Â Some of the hybrids are ok. Â Power pro is my braid, Jinkai and Suffix are great on spinning gear, and, I hate to say it, but Trilene XL is hard to beat for mono, just retie and respool often. I know there are some pigs in there but the day I went out we were out there for atleast 6hrs and didnt even get a bite. FYI Canobie is rather sparse when it comes to weeds. Its mostly barren with sparse cover here and there. Quote
nhbassin13 Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I was wondering if there is a private or public boat launch on cobbetts pond. never fished it but heard good things about it. Quote
nhbassin13 Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 have any of you guys fished naticook or babosic lake? Quote
