Bass Tard Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Jay and wagn...........................have you ever tried Drew Lake? It's near Stumpfield. Quote
jaystraw Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I've only shore fished from Drew lake. I know they did some sort of weed control/milfoil control there last year. I'm not sure how that effected the fishing, but it looked like a nice smallmouth pond to me. Do you fish there? I've never fished Stumpfield, but I hear good things about it. Quote
fishNH Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Has anyone fished any northern NH spots this year with any luck? What did you use to catch them? : Thanks, Mark Quote

I've fished Drew Lake a couple of times and had some good luck catching large mouths. I'm not too sure about smallies though. Stumpfield has some great fishing, you should give it a shot. There's some good size lunkers in there. Quote

wagn Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 hey bass tard, sent you a pm about drew lake where are stumpfield and Drew lake? what part of the state. I've found 2 drew lakes so far, one near hopkington lake, and one much farther north. And can't find stumpfield? Quote
jaystraw Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Both Drew Lake and Stumpfield Marsh are just off Exit 5 off 89. Stumpfield is litterally almost just off the exit on the right. You actually cross over the less fished part of the marsh on that bridge, and the boat launch is your next right. Drew Lake is harder to get to coming off of 89. I only know going on 9E that you go towards Hopkinton and get off at the first road after the highway. Quote
Bass Tard Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Drew Lake is very easy to get to. Instead of taking a right to Stumpfield boat launch take a left and drive down to the fork in the road and bear left. Drew Lake will be on your right. Quote
telecaster Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Has anyone noticed a larger than normal winter kill of fish?Allmost everyone that I talk to, that lives on Powow or Country ponds, has mentioned a big kill of fish, in particular larger bass. I was wondering if they may have put something in the water to controll the weeds, they have allways been a big complaint, about those ponds. Quote
fishNH Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 North of Hanover area and even up towards Lancaster. Thanks Quote
jaystraw Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I've seen almost no winterkill where I have fished.... Thank you for the info BT. I thought Drew looked like a smallie pond becasue of all the rocks in that section by the road, but I've never really fished it except from right there one morning. If you are fishing up north, I'd be using suspending jerkbaits in whatever the natural forage has been...here's it's been shiner pattern for me for smallies. I've only had luck with Senko's for most largemouth so far this year. I've only caught 3 larry's so far this year. Smallies have been better action for me. Quote
Bass Tard Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 You're welcome Jaystraw. If you're gunning for smallies, try Upper Suncook lake (Barnstead) and Manning lake in Gilmanton. Lots of rock piles and drop offs. Great fishing. Quote
randman00 Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 North of Hanover area and even up towards Lancaster. Thanks fishnh, Had a little luck in Lancaster last weekend useing a YUM tube, and a Berkley frenzy crank bait (with a very, very slow retrieve). Other then that it was very slow fishing. I did here that Forest Lake in Whitefield, was very active the end of last week but have not been able to make it there. Good Luck Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 I'll be up in Hanover this weekend until Saturday night. Definitely gonna catch me some smallies Saturday...can't wait!!! Quote
wagn Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Went over and checked out drew lake and stumpfield today. Looks like neither has a ramp that i can launch my boat in. To bad, both looked like great fishing. Also tried to find the ramp to hopkington lake and the road to the ramp was closed and blocked by a gate. Does anyone know why this is? It looks like a great place to fish timber Quote

Did you get to fish anywhere? Quote
wagn Posted May 2, 2008 Posted May 2, 2008 not big at all, just 14ft jon basically on a trailer. I think i should be able to get it into drew. But the stumpfield launch was extremely shallow, just humps of mud, hardly any water. Quote
Bass Tard Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Went to Brindle pond this afternoon after the rain stopped and did o.k.......................caught a couple of 2 pound bass and some black crappies. My son got cold and we had to leave. I didn't complain, I was starting to freeze myself. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, we're going on Suncook lake. I'm thinking about bringing a wood stove with me. LOL Quote
jaystraw Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Yeah, this cold weather has been brutal for fishing. On Friday I had the day off and hit Nubansuit Lake in Hancok/Nelson. It was so cold and crappy that even the trout were not biting. We came back and fished my local pond and did pretty well. I caught about 7, 2-2.5 pound smallies and my buddy caught about the same. All fish were caught on a Silver F-11 around rocks or points. Quote
Bass Tard Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Went to Suncook Lake as planned and didn't have much luck. Caught a small smallmouth and one big pickeral. A couple more weeks and we'll all be hauling them in. Can't wait! Quote
wagn Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Went out today with !pain! on corbett's pond. Even with the cold rain had a great day. 18 bass over all, 16 were LM, and 2 Smallies. All of the fish were between 1 & 3 1/2 pounds, with most in the 2-3 pound range. The best part was that I had my first jig fish today, actually 4 jig fish, and I can tell you for sure that I am now officially addicted to jigs. Feeling that tap right before the hook set is almost as exciting as topwater. Here's a couple of pics of Pain's smallie, and my first Jig fish ever Quote
Bass Tard Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Nice job guys.................what were you using for jigs? Quote
wagn Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 I had on mostly a pumpkin green boyah flippin jig w/ a green craw trailer. and I Pain's jig was a black and blue craw w/ pork trailer, lunker city i believe. We also caught some fish on craw worms and senko's Quote
