Kozak Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 When's it usually ice-out in NH? End of March or Early April? Quote
Yakfish Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 When's it usually ice-out in NH?End of March or Early April? Usually right around there but unless there's a sustained warming trend that starts yesterday it's looking like April for sure. Â Quote
telecaster Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Hey guys;long time no speak.some winter this year huh.we will probably be till April this year for ice out even in southern nh.I'm ready..heres to a quick yet even thaw with no flooding... Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 :'( Yea its usually ice out March/April. I was hoping for an early go at it but it doesnt look good. Neither does the forecast for a cooling trend and maybe a possible snow flurry as well this week. We need some warmer days, but its just not looking good. Im guessing its probably gonna be a late start this year. April 5th or 12th Im guessing for ice out up here. Quote
telecaster Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I drove past Cobbetts today still plenty of ice there.I worked in Pelham at a house on Little Island Pond folks were still ice fishing.Haven't been by the cvulvert at Powwow yet,its probably open and high, but thats were the springtime bass are to be caught. For now just lookin at my gear waitin. have fun cath a fish or two  jim Quote
telecaster Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I spoke with someone that lives on Powwow River pond,he said the channel is open and the culvert area on NewBoston Rd.I have allways had good luck right off the road there in the Spring.I haven't been there Myself yet to check it out. I just realized I didn't get this years license yet :-/ Spose I otta do that. jim Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 One of my spring time fishing holes that I go too after work is now mostly out. I have tried in the past but I dont catch anything in there until after the other lakes in the area ice out completely. SO Cobbets and Canobie are still very much iced in. I dont see it thawing out any time fast with temps just getting into the low 40s and falling back into the 20s. I stand by my statement of ice out will happen in April for most of NH, unless we get a real fast warmup. Its not far away guys lets all think warm thoughts and here is to Ice Out!!! Quote
telecaster Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 I stopped by Powwow today,it looks wide open. Some of the shady coves probably have some ice but the main drag is open, you could put a boat in there.I didnt fish I was just taking the dog for a walk and checking out the local ponds.People were still ice fishing on Greenwood pond.(don know how safe that is) Kingston lake is still ice, cept at the public launch, maybe 10 or 20feet out.Country pond is still ice as I can see from RT 125,I didn't drive down there.Wont be long now...I may fish Powwow tomorrow, just have to get my lic. Watch it telecaster unless you live in Newton NH, thats a Public Launch but parking along the road is for Newton NH residents only, I have recieved a $20 ticket for that. Things are melting slowly or not at all over here by Cobbets and Canobie. I was up in Nashua and the Nashua River is out, although I never do well there early or late. It certainly looks like a April ice out for my lake. How are things by you guys? Quote
telecaster Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 lPa1nl,You've been ticketed for parking on NewBoston Road?I've fished that place for20plus years and not got a ticket.Unless your thinking about Country Pond?they will ticket there,it aint right, thats a public launch you should be able to park along that road. The RESI's want the place to them selves.Thats why the launch is posted with "Wilder's Grove Beach Assoc."so people think thats not a public launch. In a way I cant blame them, its getting alittle congested around the pond and the people that live there do pay a tax premium to live on the water.I know I allmost bought a house there. However it still doesn't give them the right to close a public pond,or restrict access like they do. Really the Public Boat launch should be on the other side of the pond, off of Pond Street ,past the fish and game club. The town could put a small lot there, and there is less houses on the corner  where Pond St, meets the pond. Yea Im referring to Wilders Grove Launch. I wonder how far up the street it is until you can park? I mean Id just bring along a bike and lock it up at the launch. I wonder if its the whole road or what.  I mean then if the residents have friends over and park on teh side of the road wonder if they get a ticket or not. The kick in the groin would be since its still a public launch that the state come in and stock it with publicly funded hatchery fish. At some point when they keep raising the lic fees the amount of accessible water in southern NH its not gonna be worth it. The other slap in the face is that nice lil Greenwood pond. I cant really get back there anymore either cept when they remember to take down the locked chain for the day care, its infuriating... Quote
telecaster Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I dont know how far you have to park down that road? One of my best friends lives not even 5mins from there.I could allways put a boat in and park at his house its alittle far to walk but on a bike you could do it in probly  10mins or so.Better yet I could have him drive me ;)He doesn't really fish. I have a couple of friends that live on Powwow,They allways me tell to just park at their place and put in there.I dont bother cuz I just have a Crawdad boat so I can pretty much put that in anywhere I can get close to the water, its not on a trailer. Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 Yea, your in luck. I have a smaller Nitro and need a semi decent launch to get it out on the water. I fished Country Pond every so often and have had some success there but its the sign of the times no access... Quote
wagn Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I can't believe it's still snowing. 3 inches at my house and counting Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 31, 2008 Author Posted March 31, 2008 Its been a rough one as of late. This winter just doesnt want to seem to end. Fear not we will be out on the water soon though if not Im buying a barge and fishing off of that. ;D ;D Quote
wagn Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 First time out for the year. Found a little pond, bixby pond, that was free from ice. Spent a couple of hours fishing from the shore near the dam. Only had one bite on a chrome and blue rattle trap. Sure feels good to be casting again. Â Anyone else been able to to get out on the water yet? Quote
Yakfish Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I swung by a local spot yesterday but lots of tree cover has prevented the snow banks at the entrance to the seasonal access road from melting and my new Focus (laugh if you want but it gets 33mpg!) wasn't gonna make it. I drove around a bit and the resi is still pretty well iced in but I found a small spot that I didn't know about that was open. I threw a few dozen casts but despite my optimism and jones for that first fish I got skunked. Soon enough! Quote
telecaster Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Weather guy says,by mid week we could be well in the 60's. I haven't fished yet,did spool up some fresh line though. Stopped in Northern Bass and poked around ,they have Hilderbrant spinner baits in the cheap bins, some Rapala DT's,and some Excalibur jerks,in the 5 for twenty dollar bins. They also have a big kinda cool lookin LC display, looks like a big aquarium. I will definatly get some line wet sometime this comming week, probably at Powwow, its the only place local thats open. Quote
wagn Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Thanks for the heads up telecaster. I'm going to be heading by Northern Bass tomorrow to pick up some stuff and maybe a new reel. I'll check out those bargain bins. Quote
jaystraw Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 I went and bank-fished for about an hour on Tuesday at the Contocook River in Henniker. Not really any bites, but it sure felt good to be out there again! I've been seeing water slowly open up over here in Hillsboro on my little pond. If these temps get as warm as they say, it should have a lot of open water really soon. Quote
SenkoBasser Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Hey! I banked fished yesterday too. On the Salmon Falls River. Had a couple of nibbles. Then I had a hard bite but what ever hit it just let go of it immediately. It may have been a pickerel because it tore my panther martin up pretty bad. Its missing its tail and both eye balls! The river's very high right now and flowing strong. Today I'm going to fly fish it. See how that goes. Quote
telecaster Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I drove past Cobbetts and worked at little Island in Pelham, yesterday the ice was out..I'm gettin some line wet tomorrow. Quote
wagn Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 With this warm weather i'm going to out fishing mid day on thursday. If anyone is anywhere around Concord and wants to meet up for some early season shore fishing send me a message. Quote
telecaster Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Wagn; I might have the day off tomorrow,I was thinking about driving up to Riley's,Concord's not to far from there. I fished alittle today,no luck but it was good just to be out.I have my gear in the truck all the time so I bank beat when ever I can during the week. I'll PM you in the morning if I dont have to work. Quote
