wagn Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Need help with my new boat. Just got my first real boat, and i'm having some trouble figuring out the motor. You can check out my post under the boating section..."my first real boat"...anyways, need someone in my area to take a ride with me, who knows a little about boats, and help me figure out if this is a motor problem or an operator problem. If anyone is willing to do this i'd really appreciate it. The basic problem is that i'm getting inconsitant speed, i'm either topping out at 8 mph or 23mph, and i think it might be something that i'm doing wrong either in set up or something else, since the motor seems to be, and sounds like it's running fine. Thanks Quote
big bug Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 your either loaded *** heavy and its plowing water or not trimmed up enough. Quote
wagn Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 forget my last post. Got everything worked out on my boat. The offer is always open for anyone on this forum to meet up for some good times (i'm talking about fishing, don't any of you guys get any funny ideas). Went out on the piscatquog the last couple of days, the bite was slow but did manage to catch a couple of keepers here and there. Having the hardest time fishing the fat ika. I get bite after bite but can't seem to get a good hook-up. The thing is just so thick and fat that when i texpose it, i can't seem to get the hook to dig in there. How's everyone else been doing this last week?? Quote
jaystraw Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Pretty good fishing for me this past weekend. One day we had one of those "non-stop" fishing days where me and my buddy must have caught over 20 fish a piece from noon to 9pm. We fished so long we almost ran out of battery power and no oars. That would have been fun... The other day me and my buddy went to a private local pond that has been closed to fishing for years, but recently was opened (but no public access). We had to bushwack the boat, batteries and everything else through about 100 yards of densely packed forest and parked the truck in the middle of the woods. Caught about 7 nice smallies, a good sized largemouth and a couple of big pickeral. Caught them all on 4 inch green pumpkin senkos (I finally managed to figure them out wagn!!) or a rapala F9 in silver. Here's the 2lb larry I caught with my last cast: I'm up for going next time you are wagn, and I'm also up for a NH get together anytime. Quote

wagn Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 i often have sundays free, though not for this week. I'm over in concord but location isn't all that important. I often fish over in goffstown and weare as well Quote
mdntridr Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Fished Pine Island Pond in Manchester today....not so great.  First off it was windy and I'm in a canoe and I was feeling pretty lazy so I only covered the southern half of this itty bitty body of water.  Caught one bass near the dam at the southern tip.  Had a few more bites but no serious takers, just tire kickers ya know?  Which is strange because I've been rockin the senko lately and there were some pretty cozy looking laydown trees and pads and what have you.  The fish just weren't interested and I was too lazy to do it right.  So I came home and watched the Red Sox instead  8-) Quote
jaystraw Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I'm almost always open on the weekends. I've got 2 weekends in a row in September where I'm committed to weddings > The weekend of 9/8 and 9/9/07 I'll be at one, and then the next Saturday I have another one. That one is in Weare, so I'll be open on that Sunday..the 16th I think. Other than that, I'm available as far as I know...As long as someone has room in the boat for me! I have a canoe, but it's only a one person right now. Quote

Fished sunset lake last night from 6-9ish using c-rig lizards, started off using watermelon seed but as it got darker the bite died down so tried out using a purple lizard and that did the trick, still can't get bit for the life of me using topwaters Heres a pic of the biggest last night nothing special though just over 2 #s. Heres a smaller one As far as the nh get together i have a wedding to go to also on 9/8, but starting the week after that i work saturdays again but not until 4 or 5pm so could have sometime for it or we could do it on a sunday and 99% of sundays im free for it. jaystraw Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 the smaller size Heddon torpedo in baby bass has been rocking the topwater for me lately..might give it a try. Quote
baboosicbass08 Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 can i get em at walmart? if not where i'll give it a try, how do i fish it? thanks Quote
wagn Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 You can get them at wal-mart sometimes, i've gotten a couple there. I know dick's doesn't have them (at least not in Concord). I've had luck with both the heddon and the rapela version for topwater this year. Got out to Turtle lake for about an hour around 1am Sunday night. I managed 3 nice bass. 1 and 1/2 pounds or larger. The were either caught on black spinner baits w/ colorodo blade, or a horny toad. The largest one i caught litterally next to my foot. I was standing at the edge of the boat ramp, and just as i was pulling the frog up next to my foot a bass slammed it. Unfortunately he shredded that frog and it was the only one that i had. A pretty good night considering i only went for an hour Quote
jaystraw Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Yeah...Walmart has them and the Village Discount in Hillsboro has a good selection of them. I think they are out of the small size. You can do any type of retrieve with it. It's got a propeller, so it makes a buzzing noise. It's pretty sweet and has caught me a buch of smallmouth this year. Tonight, no top water action. The senkos were kicking ***, and I caught a nice 3 ounder. I've got a nice pic which I'll post later. My buddy caught a 3 pounder and a 2.6 pounder on a senko I gave him two weeks ago. Quote

jaystraw Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 We were fishing Franklin Piece Lake in Hillsboro when I got her. Here we are: Here is my buddy with his fish almost the exact same size: Also, if you are looking for smallmouth you'll probably do well at the rivers. Â I did not catch a big smallie there, but I caught about 9 small ones in the Contoocook in Henniker in less that 2 hours. Â Seemed like it had not been fished all year with how crazy they were going for the senkos. Quote
Dean Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I fish Mascoma Lake in NH.Great lake lots of bass both LM and SM.Been hitting them on wacky rigged senkos this year. Quote
baboosicbass08 Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 u ever fish grafton pond dbrev its not that far from mascoma? Quote
wagn Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Nice fish Jay, and glad to have someone new on the NH thread dbrev. Quote
jaystraw Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Thanks wagn! Â It felt good to finally get something good sized, and on a senko no less! Â I also did pretty well the other night. Â My buddy and I stayed out until midnight fishing, and I caught a nice 2 pound 8 oz. LM on a silver XRAP while trolling back to the dock around 12:00am. Â My buddy also caught one the exact same size trolling his lucky craft about 15 minutes befroe me. The bite has been really good the past week. Â I hope it holds through the weekend! Quote
baboosicbass08 Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 whats been good for you guys for smallies im going to somewhere tomorrow where theres only smallies no largemouths and i've only caught 1 smallmouth this year on a c-rigged lizard should those work? Quote
wagn Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 haven't done much smallie fishing this year, but in the past i've had good luck on green/brown jigs, and poppers. Also the bite has been pretty good for me for spinnerbaits lately. Don't know if this will carry over to smallies, but it can't hurt to try Quote
jaystraw Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 1 word for smallies for me lately....senko. Rigged any way you like it. I just got back fom the river fishing from the bank this AM and caught myself a few smallies..all on t-rigged senkos. Nothing huge, but all nice looking fish around a pound. Usually I would promote black jitterbugs and Heddon Torpedos for smallies, but right now (past week or so) I cannot buy a bite topwater, so I'm fishing the original rapalla and senkos. I've had a lot of success lately with that combo on 2 rods for smallies in lakes too. Quote
