hamram Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 up north checking in,everything still frozen, pulled out the boat this weekend, getting her ready!! Quote
jaystraw Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I went and tossed a couple shore casts out, but I did not have any luck (but did not really expect it). I think I'm gonna try and get out in the canoe either later today or tomorrow at my smallie spot. Good luck everyone! edited to add: I went out in the canoe for a couple hoursyesterday. The wind was blowing so hard I really could not fish very effectively, but it was a lot of fun being out there. No luck, but the water was only in the high 30's, so I realy did not expect any. Hopefully this weekend. Good luck! Quote
jaystraw Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Went out yesterday to my local hotspot to a grand total of zero fish. > I fished deep, shallow and middle. Threw my entire tackle box at them, but nothing. Only saw one fish, a yellow perch cruising the shallows. I'm not sure what the water temp was, but I'd have to guess in the mid 40's. Oh well, hopefully today and tomorrows really warm temps will wake them up and start them moving in. Quote
Still_Learning_the_Besic Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Hey guys, my first post. I'll get a pic up there when I get home tonight. I'm from Manchester, fishing primarily in Massabesic, but found some good times in horseshoe pond in merrimack and in pawtuckaway lake in raymond. I'm a plastics guy too, mostly grubs and worms, and a little spinnerbait action too. Anyone had any luck in massabesic yet? Quote

jaystraw Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I smartened up yesterday and went trout fishing. Caught 2 nice rainbows in the contoocook with a cheap rainbow trout imitation spinner. It felt REALLY nice to have a fish going nuts at the end of my line. Pretty fish, but I really want to catch some smallies. Gonna give it another shot tonight. Good luck everyone. edited to add: Went to the smallie spot and the wind was howling. It was tough fishing, but I managed a nice 2.5 pound smallie off a point with a Lucky Craft Slim Shad in a shiner pattern. Here's a shot: Quote
KlubbaT Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Hey guys. Started my fishing season earlier today. Went over to Tower Hill Pond and faced windy conditions fishing from shore. For the 1st 2 hours I didn't get a bite. Then, from 5:15-5:45 P.M., I caught 3 LMs using a Fat Ika. 1 was O.K. sized and the other 2 were dinks but it felt good to get out, get the line wet, and pull in a few fish. Quote
jaystraw Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Had a good day today in the canoe. Caught 4 smallies all aound 2.5 pounds. Caught 3 on a white powergrub on a 1/16th oz jig head and the LC slim shad. All fish were caught off off rock points adjacnt to deep water and large boulders. They are moving up!! Yahoo! Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Nice. Where are you fishing? I have never caught a smallmouth yet and would like to try to find a place to catch them? Quote
jaystraw Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I live on a little lake called Emerald Lake or Gould Pond (it's got two different names, and people use both) in Hillsboro. It's in Clarks and it's real easy to get to. Good launch, and it's also stocked with trout. I think if you head over to Pawtuckaway State park, there are also smallmouth in there. Good sized ones from what I've heard. If you've never caught a smallie, you are in for a real treat. I'd say they fight MUCH harder than a LM. A 1 pound smallie can feel like a 3 pound LM. But, they can be harder to catch sometimes. Quote
luvfishing Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 anyone have any luck in the Lakes Region area yet? Quote
jaystraw Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Went out again today. Caugth 5 nice smallies, but one came off. They were in a little deeper water than yesterday, and a differnet side of the lake. smallies confuse the hell outta me. Quote
unhbass37 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Thanks. Is the launch area big enough for a 17' bass boat? If it is I may take my son fishing up there. Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. I was just wondering if any of you fish at Powder Mill Pond?. I go there a lot with my dad and do ok but never really pull in a lot of fish. Usually only catch around 1-4 LM and the occasional SM. Anyone know the place well and have any advice? Quote
llPa1nll Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 Hey Guys, was out for the first time yesterday on my home waters. We put a hurting on them. I caught 30 yesterday but dropped and broke off a fair amount. I was using 8lb Pline fluoro, which I think was getting me a lil more bites but had a hard time toning down my hookset to just right. The wind was blowing most of the day which made for a decent bite. Quote
wagn Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Wow, sounds like a great day Pain. I finally got out and caught 7 yesterday. All small fish. Felt good to finally get out though Quote

jaystraw Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Nice job everyone!! and I've never fished powder mill pond, but I have always wanted to. The problem I'm having is that I keep hearing only so so reports from those that have fished it. Thanks Dean,. Here's a couple more from Saturday: Quote
NH_Bass_Tard Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Yea powder mill is a pretty hard place to fish. Its hard to pull in numbers, but people catch really big bass there all the time. In the summer I would have luck fishing on the outer edge of the millfoil. Right now the fishing there is very unpredictable and I feel overwhelmed. It's very shallow there and there seems to be an inifinite amount of places they could be. Haven't been able to locate "staging areas". Quote
llPa1nll Posted April 21, 2009 Author Posted April 21, 2009 Hey Guys, was out for the first time yesterday on my home waters. We put a hurting on them. The wind was blowing most of the day which made for a decent bite. That's one hell of a day Pain. What were you using to catch all those fish and what kind of areas were you targeting? did u find a distinct pattern? Hey, Well was pretty windy early on. Was throwing baits to cover allot of water (Crankbaits, Lipless Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits) in the 6-10ft zone on steeper breaks, using shad/baitfish colors. I got about 8 or so off that pattern. After about noon that bite died as well as the heavy wind. It took me a few hrs to find them again. I was using small soft plastics with 1/4oz ball head and or 1/4oz football head. For baits it was basically anything with the main color being black (Grub, Tube, Craw, *). The key to this pattern was finding some chunk rock and or boulders on the sunny side of the lake in 4-6ft. Then just fish them real slow, I easily caught 20-22 on this pattern and dropped another 5 or so and broke off another 5 or so. I was using 8lb fluoro I think that may of had some effect because my partner was using 10lb mono and he only caught 10 all day. I just had issues of setting too hard and breaking off or then not setting hard enough and have them come unbuttoned. Hope this helps guys and tight lines!!! Quote
jaystraw Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I went out today for a couple hours after work. It was a little breezy, and the black flies are out in force. I managed to catch 2 smalleis, a big pickeral and a huge yellow perch. This perch must have gone almost two pounds. It was so big I considered keeping it (I've heard they are tasty!). I had forgot my camera at home or I would have taken a picture. Not bad for a couple hours. Quote
wagn Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Nice Job Jay. You should have kept the perch. Perch are real tasty. 2 pounds is huge for a perch. I got out and shore fished for an hour and caught a few. The blackflies put an end to my trip. I just couldn't take them and went home. Just another reason I love to fish from a boat instead of shore. Quote
