jaystraw Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 you know something donmac, you are absolutely correct. I really need to learn how to ice fish. I have 3 traps, a lake almost across the street, and a huge desire to catch some fish. I have some friends that kind of know how to ice fish, but I was not really impressed when we went last year so I did not get turned onto it. Thankfully I'm going to Orlando for a couple days at the end of the month and the resort has free fishing on private property. That will help for a little bit anyway. Quote
donmac Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Check out the Meredith Rotary Derby this weekend. It is not typical ice fishing, but it is a sight to see. Go to just about any decent sized pond and drop a minnow half way down and you're bound to catch something. Quote
jaystraw Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Yeah, I'm originally from North Conway, so I'm used to the sight of the ice house city on Center Harbor during the winter. It does make me wanna get out there. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Hey guys, any hints of ice-out up there yet? In CT we're just about iced out. Maybe another week or two if it stays warm. I've found some ponds that are mostly open to throw some casts from shore, but there's still quite a bit of slushy ice. I'm itchin' to get up there to get some smallies! Quote
wagn Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 still pretty iced up where we are at. We had a nice warm weekend, followed by a monday full of snow and more ice. It seems like the winter will never end. I was down at BPS last weekend picking up some stuff, and now i'm going stir crazy after getting some new gear Quote
NHfroggin Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 took a ride to see some local ponds today and there were people ice fishing :'( but around salem there were some lakes with open water. looks like southern NH should be ice out with a couple more weeks of warm weather. anyone out there fishing yet? what are you using? bassmaster6 Quote
GUTT3R Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 I got a trailer up in Rochester NH on "Baxter Lake" I usually just fish in there Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Hey Guys whats the word? Anyone been out on some open water yet? Been real busy but really would love to get out and get my line wet. How did you guys survive the winter?lets let everyone know when they see some open water. Quote
rippin_lips Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I am home in NH this week for spring break but I don't think there is any fishable water near me. I am heading back to NC to finish school and will be back in the 603 in May. I can't wait to fish this summer and will be checking back here often to see how the fishing is going here this spring. Keep me updated. Good luck everyone. Quote
baboosicbass08 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Drove by a few of the places I normally fish after class tonite and theres still some thin ice all across them but it won't be long Quote
wagn Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I'm spending the weekend getting my boat ready and installing new electronics. I'm dying here waiting for the ice to melt. Also I'm moving shortly to the Peterborough area. If anyone is in that area looking to fish, or knows and good small lakes to start at let me know. Thanks Quote
jaystraw Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 hey guys. It looks like the ice is starting to melt fast now! Wagn, as far as Peterborough goes, theres the McDowell Lake and Cummings Pond. I'm not sure if you can take your bass rig on Cummings, but I think its' fine on McDowell. here's a link: http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/recreati/eml/emlhome.htm But, you're also close to Powder Mill Pond, Dublin Lake, Childs Bog and a ton of other water. I have not fished most of it, but I've heard some good reports. Quote
luvfishing Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 any1 have any luck yet? Looks like winnisquam is starting to open up alil. I'll be out there next sunday doing some trout fishing till my bass spots open up. Cant wait Quote
Yakfish Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I'm spending the weekend getting my boat ready and installing new electronics. I'm dying here waiting for the ice to melt. Also I'm moving shortly to the Peterborough area. If anyone is in that area looking to fish, or knows and good small lakes to start at let me know. Thanks Not too far from me wagn. I like Nubanusit in Hancock for smallmouth. Other than that I haven't fished much of south/central NH. I'd dig into my Clark's or the Fish and Game site for some ideas. Quote
wagn Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Thanks Yakfish. I'll check out that place. Well got the boat all set up. now I'm just waiting to get it in the water. Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 Hey all, Just need to pick up 2 new trolling motor batteries and we are good to go. This rainy above freezing weather will go a long way to opening some of our local waters up. Has anyone been able to get out yet? Wagn I would take a good hard look at Highland lake its a lil north of Peterborough but holds some good fish. Always welcome to come back out on my lake. Quote
jaystraw Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 hey wagn, I've also been to Nubanusit. It's attached to Spoonwood. The only problem with Nubanusit is how crowded it gets. It's a really busy lake, maybe the most busy in this part of the state. Highland Lake is in Stoddard, and it's a great lake. You also have granite Lake right near there. You have a lot of fishable water out that way. Quote
llPa1nll Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 I just took a ride by my home lake and its just about all opened up looks like I will be out on the water this weekend fishing. Hope I can get everything ready before hand. Quote
baboosicbass08 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Just got my license today hoping to get out at some point this weekend possibly sunday drove by the wilton reservoir today theres about 15' of space from shore where theres no ice the rest should be gone soon . Good luck everyone Quote
wagn Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Going to try to get out this weekend. I stopped by a few of my favorite lakes and most are pretty frozen. Pain I sent you a message as well about this weekend. Quote

jaystraw Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 KIng James, you have Wilson Pond in Swanzey pretty close to you. You also have Spofford Lake in Chesterfield just outside of town. Both are supposed to have Northern Pike and decent bass. Good luck at school and with the fishing! I'm also going to try and get out this weekend. Good luck everyone. Quote
wagn Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 Hey KingJames. Welcome to the board and NH fishing. I'm moving in a month toward the Keene area. I'm going to be learning the lakes up there too. Good luck, you'll find alot of great info on here. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to get out on some water. Got out today, no catches but we did have three hits and I lost a nice smallie near the boat. water was 41 degrees. I saw a whole bunch of perch and some pickeral real shallow. It felt great to get back on the water even if we didn't catch anything today. Quote
KingJAMES0868 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 hey thanks alot for all the info. ill def be down for anything. ill b in keene may 18th def ready for some fishing. Quote
