Koop Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Will be fishing a tournament on St. Clair (lake/river) Oct 10-11. Never fished this lake, anyone give me some pointers and an idea of what to expect? Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted September 19, 2009 Super User Posted September 19, 2009 I don't fish the river, however the lake is my playground. Right now 8' of water is the ticket. It's hard to say what the next three weeks will bring. I live on Anchor Bay, and so far the smallies have been very cooperative. In the last ten days I've caught a bunch of fours, three five plus, and two six plus smallies. Spinnerbaits, lipless crankbaits, and shallow crankbaits have been money. I haven't been out for a few days because my spine is giving me fits. I will be going out in the morning, so I'll be able to tell you a little more. Falcon Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Is this for the CBAA college bass tourney? If so I will be fishing that as well. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted September 20, 2009 Super User Posted September 20, 2009 I'm not so sure a Michigan man should be helping guys from Wisconsin, and Penn State. ;D Falcon Quote

Koop Posted September 30, 2009 Author Posted September 30, 2009 Kind of a bummer we don't have access to the entire lake but only the Michigan side. Quote
HACK ATTACK Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Tell me about it, but from what I've heard, the Michigan side is more than adequate Quote

central.PA.bass Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 hey guys how did the tournament go? Quote
Koop Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 Ended up kind of rough for us. The very high winds on Thursday and Friday was enough to turn the lake. Was hard to get on a pattern until late Saturday. Caught a couple 3-4# and a 6-1 Saturday once we figured out the patterns, cranking 8-12 fow seemed to be the ticket. We had our weigh points marked out and ready to go, Sunday morning we get a call that 2 of our boaters were sick/ something had come up so we would be getting 1 replacement boat and fishing 3 guys to a boat with 3 boats in total (bummer because you take the top 3 boat weights, most teams fished 4-5 boats). On top of that, the weigh points we had marked on Saturday were in the gps's and we'd be fishing off memory and general areas. So we decided to flip docks to try and catch a quick LM limit and then go try and figure out our deep pattern again to upgrade. Not the best idea, pulled out 2 LM and quite a few shorts in the first 3 hours, decided to head out deep and only picked up 1 browny about 4#. 3 fish for the boat, another got skunked and the other picked up 2 fish. So hard to learn a lake that big of a lake in 2 days, glad we did as well as we did considering the turnover and boater issues. I need to go fish Monona or the Mississippi and regain some dignity ;D Michigan State ended up winning with 2 boats pulling in 17+ pound browny bags. On another note, got to meet Robbie and Falcon, great guys. Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Saturday my partner and I fished all over the place trying different things. The lake laid down for about an hour on Saturday to the point where we could see weed beds. We fished the edges with dropshot/senko and caught two good ones. So our plan going into Sunday was to continue to fish the weed edges, but Sunday the wind was howling right out of take off. After about 30 minutes we scrapped it and fished canals for LM's. We caught a limit, but it was 14-16 inch fish. We were throwing dropshot/senko/jig/shaky head at the pilings and caught them. We went three team and caught 12/15 good enough for 4th place. My partner and I weighed in a small limit for 8.33 another team weighed in a 14 lb limit and the third team weighed in 2 small fish. Overall it was a great time. I got the chance to fish a great bass fishery and to meet Matt (Koop) and Maltese Falcon (Rick). I will add pictured later on when I get to it. Quote
Banor Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I was the boater/volunteer/guide for one of the Illinois teams. That was a brutal couple of days and very cold. The cold snap did not help the bite much. Unfortunately I have zero spots on the U.S. side so I was not of much help to the boys. Everyone from Michigan will be happy to know the MSU team won! They had a couple teams who came in with 17+ bags. The weights dropped off after that. B Quote
RobbyZ5001 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 First off thank you Banor for volunteering your time. http://www.collegiatebass.org/ has some pics and info. Quote
