Super User bigbill Posted August 5, 2009 Super User Posted August 5, 2009 Any fishing reports about the lakes and rivers? All this rain sure has the bite way off lately. I was wondering how high is the water on the housy and the farmington river? Quote
The Yankee Fist Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Hello there! I live in NW CT and the Housatonic is my main smallie haunt. it is absolutely RIDICULOUS right now. Way high and angry. The Farmington is okay in some spots. These rivers were supposed to have crested yesterday and start going down daily. I will say that Lake McDonough in Barkhamsted is doing okay from the shore. on the boat launch end of the lake. Ponds have been ok in the late evening and early am if you are aiming for LMB. Where abouts are you? You can't be far from me! Quote
Super User bigbill Posted August 10, 2009 Author Super User Posted August 10, 2009 I'm just north of waterbury,ct. we fish the housy when we can too. I go along the dirt road and fish for bass. Up a little farther i see pike in the water so they say the big swirls in the water are pike. Soon i want to target them when the waters calm down. I'm sure there are big bass up there too. fishizzle Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Ellington here. Smallies are tough going for me this year. Largemouth are easy with all the high water and flooded brush. Got a couple seconds this year in my club and lots of thirds. Still looking for a first. Not bad from the back of a boat. Quote

Craiger12 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Basshunter, I live in Orange. Any good places down around our area for largemouth? I have been trying places all over the area looking for a good spot and my best has been a small pond adjacent to a golf course. Havn't found much else. Thanks for any input. Quote

fishizzle Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Lets discuss CTs worst and best Lakes. I vote Masfield Hollow, Crystal and Gardiner for worst and Candlewood and Winchester for Best Quote
Super User Tin Posted August 20, 2009 Super User Posted August 20, 2009 Mansfield Hollow and Gardiner for the WORST? My club generally fishes one or both of them a year and most come in with limits. Usually nothing amazing but lots of keepers. Quote
fishizzle Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I mean its a struggle to get a limit. I usually limit too but at Mansfield you have to catch 10 shorts for one 11-15/16" keeper. Gardiner has some quality but not much in numbers. The ski boat traffic shuts off the bite at 9am. Coventry Lake CT is the same way with the ski boats. Another thing about Gardiner is there is not 1 bass boat on that lake that is on a dock. If you fish Gardiner you must know the Dock Hitler in the back right cove Quote

Their is two small lakes I like to fish in Shelton. One is Pine Lake. The other is on Nell's rock rd, not sure of the name. You can fish them both from shore or I have seen people with small Jon boats on them. Quote
basshunter81 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 For the favs, I love Lilly and Candy. The worst, Gardner and Zoar I also love Bantam, but they no longer have a state ramp. Quote

(Dock Hitler) We call him the golf car notzi. That guy can get me going. I only have about five minutes of patience for him, then I start talking crap. One day I was on candy with a friend and he had some boat problems. We started to drift next to this lady's dock and she came out yelling like a crazy women. She said you have the hole lake to break down, why did you do it in front of my dock. I was just like is this lady serious. So are other friend showed up to tow us and she is still going. Are other fiend who is really religious just looked at her and apologized and said don't worry Jesus still loves you. She just stopped yelling and went inside. You may have had to be their, but it was funny. Quote
fishizzle Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 81, you definitely should have broken down in front of someone else's dock. That Nazi at Gardiner has screamed at the DEP too in the cove doing surveys. My friend called the DEP to complain that he was being harassed and they said they knew him well. How is he not arrested or in a Psych Ward for harassment? The whole state knows him. I've never heard an 80 year old guy swear so much at random people. I heard he used to own the lake many moons ago. Quote
basshunter81 Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Anyone doing the TBF's 2day this weekend? Quote
fishizzle Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Anyone hear a rumor that Bass Pro Shops was looking into moving into Showcase Cinema location in East Hartford? Now that would be perfect. Since Cabelas stinks for bass fisherman Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Fishizzle - you need to get a new pic man. I'm sick of looking at that trout 8-) Quote
fishizzle Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Isn't it ironic...a trout on a bass site ;D Quote
69tr6r Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Hey fellow CT'ers, checking in here. I live in Shelton and fish the ponds mentioned by Basshunter. The one on Nell's Rock Rd. is called Hope Lake. There is another pond in that system that is called Silent Waters. It's off of Rt. 108 and is tucked in the woods, but there is a walking trail around it. The shore fishing is tough there because there's not much open area to cast. I took a canoe in there and didn't get a bite for the first hour, then landed about a 4lb LM. Biggest of the year for me. Quote
