Big Mike in Fl Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 hey there northern guys, I'll be on a road trip to ohio for a family reunion in lebanon ohio in a few weeks, is anyone on here from lebanon? does anyone have info on armco park lake, is it fishable, will I be able to fish there? and if so, what are the baits/ techniques you would recommend. Also I'll be in Oak harbor (near toledo) for a day as well visiting an uncle, and we'll probably be fishing the river that runs through there, so again, any info/techniques would be much appreciated. I'd really like to catch a smallie while I'm up there, since it's a fish I'm not able to get around here, and i hear so much about them, but then again, if its largemouth around there, I'm ok with that. any info is very much appreciated! Big Mike in Fl Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 hmm, no takers... how bout just general tackle suggestions for ohio lakes and rivers this time of year, anyone? Quote
Sfritr Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Big Mike Armco park just went public this year. It is a 112acre lake that is electric only. You can also rent johns with a trolling motor for like $20 daily. This lake has some good fishing unless it has already been pilfered by the john Q public. IMO it should be catch/release only. There have been some 5-7lbs taken out of there including a 6lb smallie. Good Luck Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 hey thanks for the reply, I did some reading up and found out a lot of info about that, any ideas on what to fish with, jigs, spinner baits, senkos, worms, topwater etc etc, I'd really love to catch a smallie if possible! Quote
Sfritr Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 This lake is fairly easy to fish as it has a ton of fishy looking cover, stumps, trees, shoreline, road beds etc. Try the main lake points and the sunken road bed. Normal tackle applies: Fat Ikas, senkos, cranks. We have done well running cranks across the roadbed and by the dam. Good Luck. I actually going home next weekend and plan on fishing it as well. My family lives 5 minutes away in Mason Quote
BigJohnny Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I'm not familiar with the locations you're going to be fishing, but it may help for you to know that our summer has been way below average as far as temperature goes. Early in the summer I was catching fish in deeper water (i'm assuming because we had such a hot spring), now everything I catch is probably within 15 feet of shore. Quote

birdy Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Hey Big Mike, If it's smallie your looking for hit the river. Little Miami has multiple canoe liveries if you don't have your own. Or they will transport you for a reasonable fee, have kayaks also. Some of the better river fishing in OH except for around lake Erie. Good luck Quote
Sfritr Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Actually, I just talked to a buddy of mine who used to fish Armco park when it was private and his response was SADLY similar. He told me that every redneck hilljack has been there and he has seen buckets being taken out filled with undersized fish. Yet another good fishery wasted by the ignorance of those making the rules........ Quote
