HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 You feeling ok Matt? I've been feeling it for months man, get out there! Ain't been out in weeks... just not feeling it. :-/ Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 It seems Anthony was right about the beds. Fished Norton Res yesturday and found a ton fresh beds w/males under a pound on them. Water temps were 60* and rose to 62* by noon time. Not a fish in the boat over 2lbs, almost like a prespawn phase. Every boat I talked to was stuggling, numbers and size wise. The biggest fish was around 3lbs, which is extremely small for Norton. Should make for a nice T on the 17th though. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Matt..check your PMs.....if you want, we can head out this week. ajr Thanx man. I just seem to be up to my armpits every weekend with projects. Roof on the parents house, mother in law needs my truck, on and on and on... I just came back from California and I need another vacation already. Quote
Bassnajr Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I understand, boy do I!!! Offer stands...you have my number...just show up and fish, no worries!!! ajr Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Thanx Alan, will let you know. So far I've only caught two smallies this year. It's friggin' May already... Â > Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Hit EP Res last evening from 4 to 11pm with my good friend Matt. Twenty years of fishing together but, never one outing on Turner. Water temps were around 64* wind was on and off throughout the night and guessing from 5mph to 10ph. Matt was getting into them early throwing a black Blue Senko into the pads. He had 5 fish in the boat on that friggin Senko  ::)while I had zero, before the thought of purposly running into a stump to send him overboard entered my mind  ;D They were all cookie cutters in the two pound range but, still skunking me on the Senko! I continued to flip a T-rigged craw immatation with full confidence I'd get into them soon enough. We worked all wood hard to no avial. We returned to the pads just as the sun was setting and found them one after another for a total of around 15 LM with the biggest in the 3lb range. Once the moon got hidden by the clouds and the lightining started the pad bite seemed to die, so we returned to flippin and skippin to wood and brush heading back to the launch. It paid off quite nicley for me and finally got my revenge on that SSB!  Totals for the evening were well into the 20's, and I finally ended up getting into some quality fish. I got 6 fish on our way back all over 3.5lbs and it went something like this; 3.6# 3.8# 3.11# 4.2# 5# and a nice 6lber to round it off!  :oGreat times on the water with good a friend is hard to beat! Pic's aren't the greatest but here's a few of the bigger fish. Quote
bassinri Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 Fished Indian Lake saturday in the Bostich Bass anglers open. Great bunch of guys. Most everyone had a great day. I found all mine in the shallows and in 3 to 4 foot flats. The winner had around 14 lbs. I got my limit but they just werent big enough to make a rund at it. Again I saw a ton of new beds but no one was home. Hitting Echo Lake on monday to prefish for tuesday night Tourney. I was there last week but it was brutal with the cold front that came in. Hopefully its better this week. Quote

=Matt 5.0= Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 It's May 10th, and all I have to show is two smallies. This time last year I had almost 25 LMB and my PB 7.5. Quote
bassinri Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Headed out on monday with John C and was scooled in bed fishing, lol. Saw a ton of smalies guarding beds. Larry Largies were staged just a bit off the beds and didn't want anything to do with us. Caught a bunch of smaller largemouth and one 3-4 pounder each. Smallies were much easier to catch and were aggressive as usual. I had a GREAT day and can't thank john enough for taking me out to catch some smallies. It had been a while. Quote
bassinri Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 AND THEN THERE WAS ........ONE!!!!!!!!!! : ROTFLMMFAO!!!!! IT TOOK A WHILE BUT I GOT IT, LOL. Quote
bassinri Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 Fished Echo last night with the Tuesday night tourney guys up north and once again had a great time. Great bunch of guys who can really fish. Found a sweet spot where they were staging up at the 1st drop off and had a good night. Me and my partner Bobby finish a very respectable 3rd place with 6 fish and almost 10 pounds. Thanks again guys for putting together a great T. Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I've got a T on a Cape Pond this coming Sunday, and never fished it before. I pre-fished it yesterday w/my friend Matt. This place made GS seem like way to much work to even bother fishing again. The water clarity isn't even close to GS but, the numbers and quality of fish were amazing! Water temps in the 60-62 range, the wind was absolutely nasty, blowing SSE around 25-30mph all day with gust that seemed to be aroung 40mph at times. 3-6ft of H20 was were the majority of fish seemed to hold. Plucking some off of beds, and others were aggressively feeding. Saw a few cruisers in the 7lb range Matt ended up with around 26 fish total with a 4lb LM kicker but lost a SM in the 5-6lb range :-/ I eneded up w/9 LM and 13 SM for a total. Fishing was pretty much non-stop all day. We also caught some huge yellow perch and pumkinseed, in addition to Matt catching a Brown bullhead :-? We also doubled up a few times which always a blast. Can only hope to have as good of a day on Sunday, though with a different partner, we should still be able to load the boat. Average winning weight for this place is between 17-19lbs and who ever boats a kicker in the 5-6lb range will most likely take the prize. My camera is pretty much shot and I can no longer tell what I'm taking pic's of, so here's just a few. One of our dbls And my biggest catch ogf the day, though Matt wasn't as thrilled! ;D Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 On second thought... you guys can keep those green fish. I'm having a blast!!! Quote
massbasshunter1968 Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Good Job Guys I am loving those Smallies. Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Fished the T yesterday on the Cape. T started @ 6:45(2 different members got stopped and ticketed, reason for the late start) Had my lmit by 7:20 AM and by 8:15 AM I was culling, 8-) Caught them all on a T-rigged craw imatation in 4-6' of H20. Cold front moved in around 10:30 and the shallow bite died. Went over to the dropshot but, shortly after snapped the tip off my finesse rod and the dropshot went by the waist side which really hurt me! : Came in with 15.95lbs for 3rd place missed 2nd by 2oz's : ;D However, I did manage to get the lunker @5.95lbs with a 12 boat field Great day with the new club and the best bunch of guys I've ever had the pleasure of fishing against. Can't wait for the next one! Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Found them yesterday all up tight. Around 18 LM all in the 1 1/2-3lb range. At 1st we thought they were bucks on beds but couldn't know for sure due to the extremely stained water and cloud cover. About 3 hour in we saw them schooling up on shad. Most caught on the crazy legs craw pegged w/a 3/16th Tung to this point. I switched to a shad pattern LC Gun fish after going through a full bag of crazy's and the real fun began. Extremely aggressive, and coming back for more, even after feeling the hook. I don't beleive we missed the spawn here but, I could be mistaken. I'll be heading back looking for the females later in the week. Quote
bassinri Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 We've been finding both large and smallmouth every place we've been fishing. Near beds, deep, shalow, flats etc. Most places the spawn is done or close to it. Been seeing tons of fry with moms and dads not far behind. Caught numerous 3 and 4's with 3 5+ pounders thrown in. Fished friday through monday and killed them every day. Quote
