bow3022 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I downloaded some video thing from doug hanna and i saw him use this plastic snake. Has anyone ever used it or is it in the gimmick section for baits? I don't remeber clearly but i do know there are some plastic worms out there that do float don't they? Quote
BASS fisherman Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Bass are opportunistic feeders. If your using a snake like lure, I wouldn't doubt it for a second that you'd catch some bass on it. There are lots of floating worms. Mann's Jelly worm, Zoom trick worm, and Strike King 3X products also float. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Hey I use Zoom Trick and Manns Jelly Worms, they both float. I havent seen Hannons DVD yet , but if I am not mistaken BPS used to carry a Doug Hannon floating snake it was black and I think it was pre rigged Somone help me out here but Im sure I remeber this correctly Quote
yurstruely Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 its a big rumor abotu the snake being photoshopped, but henstly bass eat snakes, its doable. I would rather go with a 8 inch senko but whatever makes your boat float? Quote
Super User RoLo Posted October 29, 2006 Super User Posted October 29, 2006 FLOATER Manns Jelly Worm Gambler Ribbontail Worm NEUTRAL (same weight as water) Charlie Brewer's Slider Worm SINKER Yum Ribbontail Worm Zoom Trick Worm Yes I know the trick worm is advertised as a floater, but fill your sink with water and throw one in...you may be surprised! Even the worms that float cannot be used as surface lures, because once you attach the hook, they all sink. Hannon's Snake has greater buoyancy and is a true surface lure, but IMO it's nothing to write home about. Roger Quote
Guest avid Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I took the "RoLo Challenge" went to the tackle box and took out one of my favorite "floating" zoom trick worms, put it in a sink full of water. Sunk like a box of rocks. Question: I have caught numerous bass, swimming the trick worm on the surface. Is it the shape and the momentum that keeps it on top? I am an amateur physicist so the answer to this question has cosmic significance that may actually impact on my perception of the nature of the universe. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 the 3X worms float very well. I also prefer a lightwire hook with those worms. Thanks for the tip on the Matzuo light-wire hook. Ditto Quote

That's funny Avid...LOL I think it's as simple as the "Water-Ski Phenomenon". As long as you keep it coming, water-resistance skates it up to the surface. For example, a lot of fellows refer to the Zoom Horny Toad as thier favorite topwater frog, yet the horny toad sinks like a stone, "Without A Hook". Ditto for the Yum Buzzfrog and Gambler Cane Toad. Although the cane toad is heavier than water, it's broad body skates on the meniscus at surprisingly slow forward speeds. I use the term "meniscus" for its Cosmic Significance ;D Roger Quote

senko_77 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Also, the berkley is tough to keep up if you throw a cast overhead. The momentum brings it underneath the water enough to sink it. If I'm throwing this worm I will skip it so when it settles on the water the was no momentum that wanted to drag it down. I have never had a problem floating a 3x Quote
liquidsoap Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 I love using strike king 3x folating works and jerk baits. It has such a great action, sometimes when the fish wont hit a popper, spook, or buzzbait I will throw these. Deadly in ponds. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 Somehow I fear AVIDS perception of the universe, I think the school Im going to has a course on that same topic THANK GOD ITS AN ELECTIVE : Quote
bow3022 Posted October 29, 2006 Author Posted October 29, 2006 I know tubeworms tend to float..For me atleast lol. But they have no action on the surface. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Hey search for the thread Where Avid shows how to rig a trick worm with a hump in it Rather than rigging the worm straight THIS HAS BEEN A HUGE SUCCESS FOR ME I just tirg it weightless with that little hump in it and Reel the worm in just slow enough to get the snake action going and fast enoiugh to keep it barely on the top THIS RULES one of the best ideas I got from these forums! Guest avid Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 3x worms definitly float, but the Florida heat turns them into goo. Any good floating worms that don't melt? Quote
