jb_from_texas Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 hey guys, i'm being relocated and will either buy in Bucks Co, PA or Princeton, NJ area. Any bass fishing around these parts? i'm not sure i want to bother transporting my bass boat if the fishing is scarce. thx Quote
Zel Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 Plenty of Bass Fishing. Leave the bass boat behind???? Are you nutz? Although a lot of the waters are small, there sure are plenty of them. The bass fishing is actually better in NJ than PA. Not a lot of lakes to run a big motor, but enough to keep a bass fisherman happy. Check out these links, its something to do during the hard water months. http://www.fish.state.pa.us/county.htm http://www.fish.state.pa.us/water/topsero.htm http://www.fish.state.pa.us/lakes.htm http://www.fish.state.pa.us/spbtregs.htm http://www.fish.state.pa.us/pafish/bass_black/00bass_waters_ranked.htm http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/lakemaps.htm http://www.bassnj.com/template.php Also, if you're into tournaments, there are enough trails and clubs to keep you happy. PM me if you want any more info. Quote
jb_from_texas Posted January 4, 2009 Author Posted January 4, 2009 thanks Zel for the info. my boat is on the small size. 16 ft with 75hp. does this lend itself to most waters there? also, are there any 2 stroke limitations? On another note, is there much stream/wading fly fishing in either state as well? thanks for the anything you have Quote

Most of my smallmouth fishing is done wading, but there are plenty of lakes as Zel... said, to keep an angler happy. There are a few that are unlimited HP. Raystown, Howard, Clarion River Lake, Shenango River Lake, LoyalHanna, Edinboro Lake and a few more that I cant recall. Ian Quote
Zel Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I have an 18' Fish'N'Ski with a 150. You have about a dozen lakes within a 2 hours trip from Bucks County, PA that you can utilize your big motor. No limits on 2 stroke anywhere that I am aware of, but you never know what the NJ politicians will do in the near future. Several guys I know attach a 9.9 kicker motor to their boats, which opens up another dozen or so lakes to their bigger boats (Round Valley and Spruce Run in NJ and Noximixon in PA are my favorite larger restricted HP lakes). Lots of good rivers and streams in eastern PA for fly fishing. The Pohopoco as it leaves Beltzville Lake is my favorite. With the outflow temp kept constant it leads to good year round fly fishing. Really good fly fishing is also found on the Lackawaxen River near Lake Wallenpaupack. The trout are pink, and jump 6 feet out of the water after the hatches it's fun just watching the spectacle. But you gotta be careful because when they release water from the dam, the water level rises pretty fast, and you can get in big trouble if you're not observant. The Delaware River is know for good Brown and Rainbow fly fishing (recommend a fly fishing float trip for the Delaware), and the Lehigh River has gotten pretty good in recent years. Also some good streams in NJ, but I only fish lakes in NJ. When you get to the area, give me a shout. And if you have options where to move to... PA is a heck of a lot cheaper cost of living than NJ. - - - - - - And if you tie your own flies, here is the listing for eastern PA trout fishing. You might want to stock up over the winter months. My fly tying equipment is pretty dusty, as these days I just stick to Blue Winged Olives, Royal Wulff, a Housefly pattern I developed, and Black Stonefly Nymphs. Super User bilgerat Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 Taken from NJ Fish and Wildlife website, enjoy. Remember, pm any of us when you get here and we'll help you out. New Jersey is not the place to be if you are looking for the world record since we do not have the year-long growing season of southern climes. But we do have our fair share of 'respectable' bass including the current state record of 10 pounds 14 ounces, taken in 1980 from Menantico Sand Ponds in Cumberland County. The future promises even more big bass since bass anglers are second only to muskie anglers as the most ardent practitioners of catch and release. For those that want to increase chances of hooking larger bass, the Division has designated three 'Lunker Bass Lakes' where there is a 15-inch minimum size regulation. Parvin Lake in Salem County, Assunpink Lake in Monmouth County and Delaware Lake in Warren County are managed with this regulation and sampling indicates it is effective in making more quality-sized fish available. In addition to the lunker lakes, other New Jersey lakes known for good largemouth fishing are Lake Hopatcong in Morris County, Greenwood Lake in Passaic County, Union Lake in Cumberland County, Manasquan Reservoir in Monmouth County, Farrington Lake in Middlesex County, Round Valley Reservoir in Hunterdon County, Monksville Reservoir in Passaic County, Mercer Lake in Mercer County and Menantico Sand Pond in Cumberland County. But don't overlook the many small ponds and lakes that dot the New Jersey landscape. You're sure to catch plenty of decent fish and likely sprinkled in will be a few braggin-sized hawgs. Quote
