Shad_Master Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I want to replace the hooks on some of my crankbaits this winter and was wondering what is the most common size of hooks -- is it #4 or #6 or what? Most of my CB's are Bombers, Storms, Bandits - that sort of thing. Also, what are the common size split rings for this? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 2, 2007 Super User Posted January 2, 2007 #4 and #6 are generally used with #2's for some of the larger baits. size 2 for the split rings. Usually the #4's go on the front and the #6's go on the rear of the baits. I sometimes go up in size #2 on front and #4 on the back. Quote
heathen Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I normally go with 6's all around and 2 for the split rings. Quote
The_Natural Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 You should really stock 2's, 4's, and 6's. This will cover all your bait's factory hook sizes, and also allow you to experiment with going up a size on some baits. Like RW recommending his Yozuri Hybrid, I'm a huge fan of the Daiichi 4x trebles for replacement hooks, and you will save a ton of money by going with the 100pks ($23.99) versus paying $5 for the 8 or 9 hook filler packs. The 4x hooks are quad reinforced, and are a heavier guage wire (comparable to Lucky Craft stock hooks). Quote
Super User Marty Posted January 3, 2007 Super User Posted January 3, 2007 On the baits I use, #6 is the most common hook, followed by #4. Most of the time, I use #4 split rings. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted January 3, 2007 Super User Posted January 3, 2007 http://www.upnorthoutdoors.com/stamina/hooks/daiichi/daiichihook.html Try these. Allen Quote
The_Natural Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Wow Munkin...that place has incredible prices on the filler packs of hooks; $3.30 is cheap! I haven't seen the Death Trap's...what is the advantage? They look like a standard hook. Quote
The_Natural Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Ok...I just googled the death trap Daiichi's for info. Apparently they are a 4x hook with a wider round bend than Daiichi's standard 4x's. They do look good! Quote
justfishin Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Excaliber 6's in the back and 4's in the front. Quote

They are cheaper then most other places on just about everything. Plus they have free shipping on 100 dollar order. Wow that sounded like an advertisement I like mustad triple grips and the diichis too. Quote
Rebbasser Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Stamina is great-I get all my spinnerbait components there. Quote
justfishin Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 ........I switched all my crankbaits and hard jerkbaits round split rings with the oval ones. They are much easier to work with. I am just as particular with my treble hooks as I am with my regular hooks and if they get a little dull, rusty, or bent up I replace them. BPS sells them. Quote
