Any luck fishing Lake Quinsigamond?

I went out last night and caught a small LMB and a small SMB as well as a bunch of good sized yellow perch on an LC pointer.  Caught these near sunset beach.  Anyone else fish here?

Also saw the strangest thing.  I swear I saw a very large (3 pounds or so) goldfish swimming near my boat close to shore.  Looked like someone released one of those carp you see in aquariums in chinese restaurants!

Personnally I wouldnt fish there, that lake is nasty dirty!! My boat looked terrible after coming out of that lake! Try Whitehall reservoir!! Its where the pike and 495 intersect!! Nice lake, clean, no skiers and good fishing!

I totally agree. I fished there once and will never go again. It made me feel dirty ;D

Try Lake Chauncy in Westboro..nice and small with healthy bass. Boat ramp can be tricky though.

About 40% of the shoreline at Lake Chauncy can be fished.

Unless I'm mistaken, the entire shoreline of Whitehall is public property. Not mistaken.

WHITEHALL RESERVOIR (Hopkinton)

General Information:

This enormous 575-acre natural great pond is located about a quarter mile south of Route 135 and a mile west of Route 495. Maximum depth is 32 feet, but overall this is a shallow pond and average depth is just six feet. Transparency is variable, depending upon suspended algae and boat traffic, and runs from six to ten feet. The bottom is equally variable, consisting of gravel, rubble or muck, and structure in the form of humps, islands and fallen trees is abundant. Aquatic vegetation is abundant to overly abundant, heaviest along the western shorelines.

Shoreline access is excellent since the Department of Environmental Management owns a narrow band of land around the entire pond. There is a large, paved boat ramp and parking lot just off Route 135 on a northeastern cove of the pond. It is suitable for all trailer boats and there is parking space for at least 30 vehicles. There is also a small, unimproved access for car top boats and canoes off Pond Street (with parking for only two or three cars) on the extreme southern tip of the pond. There is a speed limit on this pond which prohibits water skiing.

Just a quick word about Whitehall, as I live across the street and I am a member of the group that successfully helped stop them from building 35 condo's right next to the boat ramp on the left as you leave the ramp. They were going to put the septic plant right out on the point!!!  

Whitehall is a State Park with very good parking and launching facilities. It has a 12mph speed limit, no swimming, camping, fires, etc. The state owns approx 100ft around the edge of the lake, less than that in some area's.

Whitehall is a jewel as it has very few houses on the lake proper, lots of great islands, some deep water in the south end, usually around 24ft depending on the level of the lake. There is one small hole surrounded by the big island and the floating islands, that is about 17ft in the center. This cove has a small sand bar on the entrance.  It before the Res was dammed up it was a pond by itself and was called Mud Pond.

The lake has beaver, herons , the occasional otter, and once in a while osprey and even once and Eagle.

In the 60's Whitehall had two boat rental places at the south end. In the 30's there were lots of cottages around the lake and the hurricane of 1938 wiped most of them out.

The State took control of the lake in the early 1900. There was at one time a very large pipe that transfered water via the pipe to Duck Pond on Saddle Hill Rd and that water went into Hopk Res on rt 85.

That is why there is a gate house at the dam/roadway in the north end. That has been blocked off for years.

There are some very large bass in Whitehall, I personally saw a picture of a 9,5 that a guy caught a few years ago. Later that winter a 9lb+ was caught thru the ice.

Of course Whitehall is over pressured by bass fisherman and tournament and non tournament. During the summer the best times to fish it, can be in the very early morning, around 5am.

I hope if you fish there you will enjoy the beauty of the lake and appreciate the BS&T, that a lot of people have put in to keep the lake the way it is.   MJEFF

Forget Quinsig, a million dinks and rat fish, Unless your going for Northern Pike it ain't worth the time. Whitehall as previously stated is a very beautiful lake. No personal water craft to deal with, as well as holding some hawgs in the 7lb range.
