Still waiting for open water!!  WTRDOG is that boat of yours a Bass Tracker 190 TX? If so I have the same boat. I love mine how about you?

I don't believe we ever talked to be honest.

Fish was fine, had to put it down on the bank for a second to grab some pliers to get my trailer hook out of it's gills.     Typically, I  don't set them down on the bank, but only It was out of the water all of 2 minutes and swam away fine.

Seems a bit wrecklees. If that's what has to be done in order to show off your catch, and everyone did it, there wouldn't be any fish left to catch!

Rather than go off on a rant, I'll refer to this BR article:

Bass are sensitive creatures that can be injured more easily than you might think. Tips for handling fish before you put them in your livewell include the following common sense items:

1. Keep the fish in water as much as possible. Bass can only hold their breathe as long as you can. Wind and other elements can damage their skin, too. Wet your hands before touching the fish so that you don't remove the slime coat that protects the fish from infections and fungus. Don't handle the fish any longer than you have to, and be gentle, don't drop the fish if you can keep from it. Bouncing off the carpet also destroys their protective slime.

So I'm guessing rolling it in dirt probably isn't a good thing.

Educate yourselves so that future generations can also enjoy the same sport.

Actually I believe he said he had to put the fish down so he could get some pliers to get the hook out of the gills.

When I said you gotta do what you gotta do, was not referring to taking pictures and weighing fish.  If putting the fish down to get some pliers keeps a hook out of my fingers, then i'm going to have to do it once in a while.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for preserving our fishing resources.  And I do my best to handle fish properly.  And I encourage others to do the same.

Headed down to a local lake yesterday after work with a friend of mine. The wind was out of the south wtr temp was 48.1 deg.Had the best day of the year so far,we ended with 18 largemouth. Also caught a bunch of big crappie.Fish were caught in 2 small areas along a creek channel next to a tappering point in 3 to 4' of water. All fish but the biggest of the afternoon (caught on a jig) were caught on a Smithwick Rogue SusRatRog_ASDRB-m.jpgon a really long pause, too long.It started to rain and was getting dark and we called it a day.All said and done not bad for 3 hrs of fishing.

Went out on Tuesday afternoon at about 32 degrees and windy......man was it cold! Worth the trip though as I was able to grab my first fish of the season. Not a bass, but it's a start.

Here are some highlights so far for me this year

Really wish I would have gotten an official weight on this one because I think this might have been pushing past 7lbs considering its length and girth

23" long and 15" girth, 6.5-7lb

All fish have been caught on a variety of lipless cranks such as Bill Lewis Rattletraps, Cotton Cordells, and Yo-Zuri rattlebaits from shore focusing on on lumber and creek mouths entering ponds as well as dropoffs where the bass are staging before they head to their spawning beds.

Nice fish cambridge, give me a shout if you venture up to the greater chicagoland area, Me and Izzy will get you on some good waters.

Haha ok, I dont get up there too often, but I did go up once last fall with some friends and had some pretty decent luck catching some smallies and rock bass out of the dupage river and a 15" crappie out of a subdivision pond in Naperville.
