mdstud007 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Has anyone fished the Potomac River lately? Trying to find out where to go and what to use. Thanks. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 15, 2009 Super User Posted March 15, 2009 I have been out on the Potomac in the area around upper Montgomery County, lower Frederick County area. What area are you thinking of heading, you going for largemouth or smallmouth? Quote
mdstud007 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 Looking for info on the Lower Potomac. SM or LM that are 15" or bigger. LOL. Thanks Quote
Jocko Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 You fishing a tourney? Bass Fishing Home page has reports under MD, and you can research alot there. Most tourney's go out or Mattawoman and Leesylvania. Speaking only for myself, I've had luck with junebug worms with 1/8 oz around train tressle bridges on out going tides, black and blue jigs with chunk trailers on dock pilings. Crankbaits (bomber Fat A in craw) down rip rap. White willow spinnerbaits along grass lines. It's a good fishery - you can throw alot of things. Haven't fished it yet this year. Quote
basser89 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Poke around on the Maryland Who's who thread. You may be able to find someone closer to you that may offer you some help. Unfortunately, I'm "in the same boat" as BrianinMD as I also fish the upper Potomac. Welcome to THE boards Jocko! Quote
egolfer Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 First off get your self a good map. The river has a ton of hazards up and down it from barges, pilings, rocks, etc. Most of the major creeks produce fish year round. The main structure is grass but you can find good wood, pilings, docks, marinas, riprap. Remember the river is tidal so the fish are always moving up and down during the day. I prefer moving baits like spinners and cranks pretty much year round, but you can thrown anything when you find some fish. Jigs, plastics, swimbaits, etc.. Once the summer heats up, you can really catch them on top water pretty much all day long. Quote
