MN Basser Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 What are really good crankbaits for good prices? I love Rapala, but $7 each is hurting the wallet. What other cranks do you have luck with at a good price? Quote
Guest muddy Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I use mostly DT's but if you want to go lower in price then I would look at Bandits and Storms Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted March 3, 2008 Super User Posted March 3, 2008 RAPALA!!!!!! $7 for a rapala is money well spent. rapalas are top notch baits easily worth $10+ IMO. if you dont like $7 a bait then bandits are pretty good cranks too, but rapala are MUCH better and rapala has a wider variety of baits available. HesterIsGod Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I use mostly DT's but if you want to go lower in price then I would look at Bandits and Storms I agree Bandits and Storms, and I would add Bombers Quote
AKFerzy7 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 luhr jensen, norman and bandit are fine. but ive never purchased a rapala that needed to be tuned, cant say that about the others i mentioned. you get what you pay for. Quote
Guest muddy Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I love the Bomber Fat A's. OOPPSSS YOU ARE RIGHT I USE THE 8 A's Quote
djmax22 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I bought a few BPS brand cranks. They didnt run right out of the box. Spent time tuning them. Hooks are cheap. I would go with Storm Wiggle Warts. These are time tested fish magnets. Although the hooks will need ot be replaced. I picked up some bandits 300 series at BPS. I was impressed, but havent got a chance to use them yet. Quote
ohiobassmaster93 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 norman crankbaits are really good and there pretty cheap.... the fatboy my personal favorite is only like 4.50 Quote
HesterIsGod Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 bassmaster magazine just did an article on best cranks for under 5 bucks Quote
Rayraff Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Bomber Model A's you can catch them on sale for $2 a piece if you lucky Quote
Big-O Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I'll go with bomber for the dollar but SK makes some good yet inexpensive cranks as well. Most run well out of the package. Quote
jdw174 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Don't forget Bill Norman lures. Great lures at a great price. Quote
Kevin Guidry Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Digger series at Cabellas is a quality crank and many styles $1.99 each. Bandits are also a good one chrome bandit has a small problem holding on to finish but all others do well. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted March 4, 2008 Super User Posted March 4, 2008 Rapala Norman Bomber Strike King Falcon Quote
Mid-MO Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Wiggle Warts, Normans, Strike Kings (KVD uses them all the time - good enough for me). Quote
Captain Chaos II Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 One vote for Daiwa peanut. Good and cheap. $4-$5. Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Hmmmm rapalas costing $7? I get rapalas for about $5 in southern california at about every store I go to. Anyway I am poor myself and usually stick to the cheaper jerk baits, crank bairts, topwater baits. I find rapallas are great baits. So are Strike Kings, Normans. Heddon lures are probably the best valued baits. I find these in wall mart for about $4.00 - $5.00. Storm lures are cheap too but not all of them are good. Wiggle Warts are a great bait though. Another good jerk bait that is pretty cheap is the diawa dr.minnow. It was about $6.00 and probably works better than the rapala origional for me... Quote
Josey Wales Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I would say for the money you cant beat the cotton cordell Big-O. if you can find them in the older colors the better, but up here in MI they seem to work real well in those sandy and Marl type flats in the craw color. Wall mart and Meijer had em real cheap a year or 2 ago. They are normally like 4-5 bucks but ive seen em as low as 2... I just bought a bunch up, sandblasted em and painted em all kinds of craw variations. Depending on time of year and the water im fishin. Hope this helps. Quote
LAbail Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I'd have to go with Bandit.. I love these Cranks and they work well.. I caught 10 fish in about 30 minutes yesterday on a red craw footloose. the one negative experience I've had with these is one day i was fishing in a tournament on Lake Verret in Louisiana. It was really hot out that day and the sun was cooking. Needless to say 2 of my LA shad crank baits that were sitting in a top part of my tackle box which you can see through had they're paint jobs torn up. Like the crank bait busted out of the paint shell in 2-3 areas it looked like. But besides that these Cranks are awesome for the money. Out of all 18 up there those were the only 2 so I didn't mind Quote
