Dogface Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Late March can be high and fast on the river. Where do you plan on starting? It's a big river. Quote
bigfruits Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 im not sure where to start, im looking for a good stretch of about maybe 30 miles that doesnt have many rapids. ive heard the harrisburg area is a good place to start. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted February 26, 2009 Super User Posted February 26, 2009 I can tell you its gonna be cold. You will want to find some of the slack water around the bridges and any holes you see. As far as fishing goes, high water is a good time to fish and a terrible time to canoe. The fish will be stacked up along obvious current breaks just trying to get out of the main stream. That river is about as unpredictable as they come and when the water gets high, its MOVING. Quote
bigfruits Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 im sorry. i meant late may and not march. do you think the river will be slower by then or is the susquehanna not really a good river to canoe? Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted February 26, 2009 Super User Posted February 26, 2009 Well dam, that's an entirely different ballgame then... Bring your topwater stuff. They should be spawning or near the end of it. You could be in for some great action that time of year. Quote
boatnik13 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Wow ! 4 days. Thats more than 30 miles since Harrisburgs section is 2 ft. deep 8/10 th's of the way accross. I'm thinking of maybe from Halifax to Gouldsboro or T.M.I. area. You say "NO RAPIDS " ? the Dauphun narrows section will be rapids but you can get around them on the West side. If your looking for someone to drop you off > I think River front camp grounds still does that. They ran that type of service above Dunncanon area of Juniata and Susq. Ri.'s Quote
Dogface Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I think River front camp grounds still does that. They ran that type of service above Dunncanon area of Juniata and Susq. Ri.'s I think it would be a good idea to talk to them. We use them for one float trips. If you need the number I can get it for you. Quote
bigfruits Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 thanks guys. ill look into all your suggestions. i dont mind a few rapids but i prefer flatwater. ive lost too many rods to rivers in the past Quote
