Last Saturday I hit Keystone State park for a couple hours.  The DNR lowered the lake to work on a bridge that goes over part of the lake so the bottom of the dam is level with the water.  I found a bunch of baitfish  in that area so I tied on a black 1/4 oz bucktail jig and cast to a small dropoff where I knew the bass would be waiting for those unsuspecting morsels to slip up.  After a bit I caught a chunky 10 inch LM that was as cold as an ice cube.  I walked down the dam making casts parellel to the shore, but about 10 feet out.  I ended up catching another fat pig, who probably went 1lb 12-14 ozs, maybe even 2lbs.  I got them both on a black bucktail jig with a steady, but slow swimming retrieve.

Fun day!!

Anyone else catching any cold fish?

Good for you, BassFisherman!

I fished down at the South Side Riverfront park ramp last Wednesday for a few hours.  No bass bites, but I caught a baby sauger on a jointed crankbait.  Yuck. After doing all the tournaments this year, I have grown to loathe shore fishing!!  :o

I treid the upper Allegheny last week. It was running high and cold and only had 1 bite.

It's about time to hang it up here.

Did you guys see "The Worlds Greatest Fishing Show" with Mark Zona this last Saturday?  He was up at Presque Isle fishing with some pro named Frank.  They also showed clips of him fishing for Steelhead out of one of the tribs. nearby.  It was a good show.

Anyone been out lately?

I hit Twin lakes park this Saturday.  I tried the upper lake at the dam for a couple hours without a single bite.  Went down to the lower lake near the boathouse for another couple hours also without a bite.  I tried all sorts or stuff.  Bucktail jigs, shakeyhead jigs, jerkbaits, dropshot rigs, combo rigs, I even combined some stuff just to give the odd stuff a try, such as a dropshot with a bucktail jig as the weight, as well as a tiny husky jerk on a c-rig.  I didn't have one bite all day!  While I was fishing, I had one trout guy on either side of me catching trout every other cast.

The only thing I can figure is that I wasn't fishing where the bass were.

funny! i did the same thing you did about 2 weeks ago at twin lakes. dropshotting marabou jigs, c rigged j-7s, tubes whatever..

ended up swtching to a j-5 and getting a nice rainbow and callin it the day. no bass.

my guess is they are over near the wooded side directly across from the boathouse. there is a gigantic swath of vegetation in the water over there that probably provides them with good cover and warmth through the winter. if there were anyway to get a f&f out that far over there i bet you could crush all winter. or at least till ice over.

ive been fishing down in south somerset county  in some of the creeks and there are no bass active  in any of my 3 favorite creeks  i guess i got to wait til spring

I've been out but it's been on the Erie tribs chasing steelhead. It's a great way to pass the time till Spring rolls around.

Steelheading has been AWESOME this year. Last day out me and a friend landed over 50 between the two of us.

really?  a guy that lives down the street from me is taking me up there steelhead fishing sometime in january or feb.  not sure when  im excited for that

The area in the circle is a big deep flat.  On the side you mention, near the point in the circle is the deepest area in the lake dropping down to almost 25 feet as well as the most verticle dropoff in the lake.

Really?.........YES........

It has been a fantastic year on the tribs. Each day out I average about 10-15 landed and many more hook-ups.

The 50 day was one of those days where they were eating good and we just had the drift right. You'll see, it's all about the drift.......

bassnleo,

What have you been using to catch the steelhead? I went up to Erie twice and got skunked. Once the water was extremely low in Oct and then went back in Nov and the drift was really fast.

plnoldrick,

I went out to Twin lakes today and both "lakes" were frozen over.  The same with Keystone state park lake, and another "secret" lake in the same area.

Maybe with the warm rain we've had today, the lakes will be ice free tomorrow and Monday.

The number one you'll catch a fish bait is shiners, either emerald's or regular small shiners. Poor Richards sells the small regular shiners, BAC sells emeralds. I prefer Poor Richards, they seem to be a little heartier than emeralds.

Low and clear conditions are tough all around. In those conditons go to a deeper pool, use light line or a light leader, no weight under the float.

In faster conditions where the water has some color you can upsize line to 6-8 lb test, a little more weight. The key is to adjust your weight, length between your float and bait, till you get the drift to match the current.

Shiners are good in just about any condition. I also use egg sacks if the water has alot of color. Single waxworms are good to as are mini-foo jigs tipped with a maggot or two. The basic colors or white and black will always catch fish.

If you want to go sometime let me know. I'd be glad to show you the ropes up there. It can be frustrating to see everyone catching fish and you just can't seem to hook-up. I can show you a few simple things that will get you bit, I guarantee it!

i hit the highland park dam this morning for a little walleye hunting.

about 10 boats out there all were catching fish.

jigs tipped with minnows were the ticket, the minnows didnt even have to be alive. I tried some soft plastic minnows and minnow swimbaits to no avail. and jigs alone didnt work .

lots of smaller saugers and eyes but we managed plenty of keepers 18 to 20 inches.

Eric, if you need to get rid of any of those fillets I'll gladly take them off your hands, my fryin pan is lonely :o

If you still have my number give me a call, I'd like to come down and get a few of those tasty morsels. My 16 foot boat is still operational so if there is a launch fairly close we can take the boat, otherwise the shore it is.

you guys talking about trout fishing i just went out for a ride by a real little stream that breeds native brook trout and decided to fish a little  wow  i caught 4 in about 10 minutes using redworms  fun fun  those things are so aggressive and so pretty  it was great

Its like fish in a barrel. :o

Wednesdays and Sundays are good for me.

I am sure a 16 footer would be fine.

I still got your number.

I let my buddy keep all the fillets even though i love walleye.

I live so close if i need some Its like a minute from my house.

but a boat makes its a little easier.

keep me posted,
