BASS fisherman Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 I can remember when I started on this board there were only a handfull of guys from PA. Now there's a bunch!! Does anyone recongnise the pic from below? Quote
simplejoe Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 I'll take a shot at this, I'm just guessing but it looks like the Tarentum Bridge. What makes me say that is the sign on the hill looks kinda like the Clarion Inn hotel Quote
BASS fisherman Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 simplejoe, Your exactly right! Good guess too!! I took that picture in the winter of 2006 while fishing near that point that juts out into the river. Quote
simplejoe Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 It's funny I cross that bridge everyday my store (Simplicity Flooring) is in Lower Burrell. I use that launch right there all the time, you know how many times I looked up at the bridge. Next time your down this way call me works 5 mins. away and home is 15 mins. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Will do Joe! I was down that way yesterday. I live in Plum so that part of the river is closest to home. I go down Edgecliff once in a while and fish down by the dam. You ever fish the pond down there? I have caught both LM and SM out of there, and have seen some big carp. The first time I fished it I didn't think it would have any fish in there. Until I felt that "tap tap"! Quote
simplejoe Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 The Burrell Lake well pond, I fish there alot and caught alot of LM and SM out of there never caught a carp out of there yet. I take my kids there alot because it's close to the shop we can fish for a little while then play at the playground. I'll take you to a couple of private ponds come spring around here. Do you ever go to Crooked Creek Lake or the Kiski River? Quote
moby bass Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Hermitage. Fish Shenango river and lake, Pymatuning lake, but I'm a bankbeater Quote
BASS fisherman Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Crooked Creek? Ya I've fished Crooked Creek a couple times. That's 15 pounds 11 ounces that got me first place!! I have never fished Kiski though. I am not talking about Burrel, I am talking about the pond across the road from the river down Edgecliff near lock 4. It is tough to fish, and during the summer is totally surrounded by poison ivy. The water is almost black. Here's a pic of me at Burrel. Quote
simplejoe Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 OH yeah that pond down in Braeburn, That is a tough pond never had any luck but I know theres fish there I seen them jump out of the water in the evening. I think that pond is one of the hardest in the area.http://maps.google.com/maps?f=s&utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-sk-gm&utm_medium=ha&utm_term=map That's funny you have a pic from Burrell lake. Crooked Creek is where I got PB from 9 lbs. 8 ozs. I got her right outside of the launch area. Quote
simplejoe Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I tried to send the satellite view I guess i didn't work It works if you go to google maps and type in Braeburn Rd. New Kensington, PA Quote
BASS fisherman Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I have fished it a few times and only caught fish once. I got a couple on a black YUM tube and a smallie on a popper. I found the pond on Google Earth. 9lbs 8oz is a freakin pig for PA!!!! What did you catch it on, and what time of year was it? Quote
paangler3117 Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 just south of altoona here, fish raystown from the boat, the juniata, and tribs, and do some pond fishing. Quote
simplejoe Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 What did you catch it on, and what time of year was it? It was late April, I just left the launch around 7 I just started to toss a Heddon Torpedo (one of my favorites for some reason) I seen her come up and almost hit it but I got excited and yanked the lure too early (fixed that problem), So I hurried and grabbed my other rod I had a 3/8 oz. Booya spinnerbait with a chaurtruse/ white skirt on it threw it out on it's fall is when she nabbed it. I NEVER even came close to that size since. I was so inexperienced and another guy came from the launch with his boat. he come over when I lifting her out of the water and I didn't have a scale so he had weighed her at 9-8. He gave her back to me and I tossed her in without any thought of keeping her. That guy was so mad I just did that. OH well my fish she's going back in the water. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Good for you Joe! I have done that with smaller, keeper bass too. I throw it back and some yahoo wants to keep it. NOPE!! That fish may have been from a tournament that had released her and she happened to munch on your SB. Quote
simplejoe Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 It's funny how many times I've fished there and never seen a tournament. Tell me what dates they are I'd like to go. There's so many places that people never fish there they go right over them to hurry and get to the banks. There's some really nice Bass there if you find them. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 I'd be willing to bet you have been there as a tournament was going on and you just didn't know it. They usually get there very early, and launch at sun up. Our club usually fishes until 3-3:30pm. Rarely will you see sponsored anglers in small local tournaments, and be able to instantly know they have sponsors. They are there but they don't always wear their tournament jerseys for club events. Usually our BASS club has our second tournament of the season on Crooked Creek. If your interested you may be able to fish that tournament as a guest. If you don't have a bass boat, you can fish as a rider in someone else's boat. If your interested, let me know. We will have to wait till the week or so before that tournament to see how many boat owners will make it, therefore determining the number of guest slots we will have. So far I only have one honey hole on that lake. I have lots of other spots, but they aren't always productive like my honey hole. Quote
hjerk24 Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 In Boyertown Pa here. Last year fished the Fishers of Men Trail, and a buddy of mine won the "Tyding Tournament" down on the tidal flats. What a great fishing tour, and a great bunch of guys, and a truely magical day! I enjoy all kinds of fishing from Canada down to the Potomac. Haven't been here (site) for a while, but wanted to say hello. I actually have the boat on the back of the truck right now. Putting into storage tomorrow....but man, would love to head out!!!!! God Bless- Merry Christmas. Jamie Quote
