boatnik13 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Anyone fish Cowans Gap lake in S.C. PA. ? Quote
basser89 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Nope, never heard of it! : Dad's fished it a little too! ;D btw, how's Walker lake coming? Quote
boatnik13 Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 NOW BASSER! I want to know what kind of structure is in this lake? All DCNR says is concrete blocks> why ! they really go out on a limb here for structure. If we can find out about more structure we will map the lake but its iffy due to the small size. Looks like locust lake up near tuscarora lake judging by your pictures. Over 30 views ! > someone must be holding back on me. Quote
Mobydick Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 I kinda fished this one maybe......ummmmmm....yep...I sure did! I think I can help you out maybe, shoot me a pm! I caught this little girl there this summer. Quote
basser89 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Hey Mark, Touch base with my brother, mobydick. He's actually fished it a lot more than I have. I think he has a better understanding of the lake than I do. He was actually with me when I caught the one I posted. Sorry little brother! I didn't have any of your pics to post! Quote

That's alright big bro ;D. I have fished the lake more times than I can count. I have also had some very successful days there. I've fished it for years now and have got a thorough understanding of the lake. Shoot me a pm Mark, and we'll exchange some knowledge! Ian Quote
boatnik13 Posted November 14, 2008 Author Posted November 14, 2008 Thanks! I'll PM all the request's tonight. Forgot to get on this site last night. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 14, 2008 Super User Posted November 14, 2008 Moby and Sean....Give me a shout sometime if you are going to Cowan's. Its actually closer for me to go there than MG. There is also a small lake just up the road from there that you may not know about. I have hit it on the right day before and it is trully impressive. Unfortunately, other days not so much ;D Quote
basser89 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Hey Wayne, MG is just slightly further for me than Cowan's gap too. After talking to Ian (moby) earlier this year, I'd definitely like to hit there sometime in the spring during the prespawn! Still trying to figure out why I hadn't hit there more this year?????? Is the other lake you're talking about the one there in Fannetsburg? If it is, I've fished there once with one of my cousins. I managed a couple dinks, he caught a rather large snapper! Guess who volunteered to get the crankbait out of its mouth. :-? Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted November 14, 2008 Super User Posted November 14, 2008 That would be the one, but the secret isnt the lake or the expansive lily pad area..... :-X Quote
basser89 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 For some reason, I think we talked about that lake before and IF we did, I think I know what you're talking about. But that'll be for an off line discussion! ;D Quote
boatnik13 Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Any of you guys ever visit long pine reservoir a top of Caledonia State park? We have a eye out for that one also but don't hear of anyone fishing it. We made a visit 2 years ago and it looked great from the shore. Quote
Mobydick Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I have fished Long Pine. Guys, that sounds like a good idea to fish Cowans Gap and the "other place". I am making plans to hit Cowans Gap at least 3 times this spring. Ian Quote
basser89 Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Hey Mark, First off, you've got mail! It's not much, but I hope it helps! Secondly, I've fished Long Pine too (only once so far). I've heard of some very nice fish coming out of there too. The biggest I've landed was a 3 pounder but had another one on that I never got to see. Can't guess on the weight of it but it was considerably heavier than the big one I did land. I know of one club that fishes there as well. From what I was told that lake stays gin clear a good bit of the time. The day I was there, I was able to make out individual grass stocks (not sure what type of grass is in there, had never seen that type before) on the bottom in about 15' easily! My cousin won his club tournament this year there with somewhere around a 20 pound bag. Hope this helps too! Quote
Xrstybrgr Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I actually have a map of this lake if snyone would like to see it. Has where all the rockpiles are and even what baits work best at different areas. Me and my friend go up there a lot in summer. Live about 50 miles outside philly. He has a cabin in the park. Dziadus cabin the name is on Aughwick road. Quote
boatnik13 Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Hey! Xrstybrgr I'm intrested in your map or checking it out. I sent you a away mssg. If its any help in map making then maybe we can work something out if i have a intresrt. Mark ! of hlsmaps co. Quote
BingbongJack! Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I am extremely interested in a map, I plan to go there for my birthday weekend an would like to be able to catch a lot of bass instea of having the first time at a new lake blues Quote
boatnik13 Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Well BingbongJack! No ones ever produced a map for me as proof of structure in this small lake so I never paid a visit to make this lake map. I do have 12 other lake maps in my collection that are closer to harrisburg area and Iam the only one making them as of now. Mark! Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 17, 2013 Super User Posted June 17, 2013 You can see the concrete slab piles in the upper end of the lake when the wind isn't blowing. I've marked them down through the lake in the deeper water, but obviously can't see them with your eyes. Quote
Sun Fish Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 I dont understand the "need" for a map on this place especially if it is a small lake? Isnt half the fun using your electronics and finding/marking the structure for yourself? Quote
