Guest Texas_Bass_Pro Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Does the flexiable tail in LC live Pointer really play a strong factor in this type of bait? How well does it work? What is the action like? Quote
bitman Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I just got one of these to guys, how should I fish it??? Thanks danny Quote
The_Natural Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 There was a thread very recently about the live pointer; you may look it up. My answer is short, so I don't mind giving it again. I think the regular pointer is simply better, and it is the bait you will see the pros using. The live pointer should be worked with quick, shorter jerks to produce a swimming action. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted January 2, 2007 Super User Posted January 2, 2007 I like the live pointer but it is a bad suspending jerkbait. If you slowly crank it and fish it like a swimbait it works quite well. This would not be my first choice if buying a LC bait get a 78 or 100sp depending on the size of the fish you are targeting. Super User roadwarrior Posted January 2, 2007 Super User Posted January 2, 2007 I have a couple and they have NOT been productive. I'm going to work them hard this spring and give them another chance, but right now I have NOTHING positive to say about this lure. On the otherhand, the Lucky Craft Pointers are my favoite jerkbaits in several different sizes. My favorite lure, period, is the Pointer 128. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted January 2, 2007 Super User Posted January 2, 2007 I got one when they first came out and I'm not impressed. I've tried short jerks, and steady retrieve. I've caught a few largemouth with it but it's not my favorite jerkbait. I think I'll stick with my pointers and x-raps. Falcon Quote

Have you seen the new X-rap size 12? I saw it last night in the new Bass Pro Catalog, and thought about you. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 2, 2007 Super User Posted January 2, 2007 Nope. I only have the originals, but I have had good succes with them. I'll take a look at the X-12. Thanks for the tip! Quote
bitman Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 can you return unopened lures to BPS? I have a live pointer I want to return now, for 25 bucks I can get some good rapalas Holler with any advice, its looking like I made a poor investment danny Quote

Guest avid Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Don't be so hasty about returing that live pointer. I'm here to tell you that I have had very good success with the one I have. Mine, is eggshell white. and suspends better than any bait I own. I fish it more like fluke than a jerkbait. I especially like to use where there is a little current. I'll cast it out upstream of my target (I fish a lake but often windy). I'll rip it fairly sharply cross current and in front of my target. then I let it sit there. It won't move except for the slightest undulation in the joints and feathered treble. then I'll twitch twitch or something short and let it sit some more. Mine doesn't sink or rise, it's amazing at how well it suspends. I'll let it sit for as long as I can stand it then rip or twitch some more. Big bass will absolutely crush this lure. Quote
Bud Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I have about a half dozen of the live pointer. Try fishing like Avid said I think you will be suprise. Quote
bitman Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 this is the one i got in chart shad, i fish an ultra clear lake a lot will it be ok danny http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=58703&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=5&hvarSubCode=2&hvarTarget=browse Quote
Hawgin Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 That color will be just fine for clear water. That is a great shad imitating color, and it is my second favorite color of LC's (I like ms american shad) the best. Quote
Guest avid Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 The color is excellent. But I'm thinking that maybe it is best you return it. This is an expensive lure. If you don't have confidence in it it's not going to work for you. Better to start off with a pointer 78 in whatever color works well in your lake. This is a less expensive lure and maybe the best fish catcher in the entire Lucky craft lineup. Develop confidence in this and then move up to something a little more exotic. good luck and have fun avid Quote
Cephkiller Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 I have that exact lure. I have caught one LM and a channel cat. I have not been very impressed. I do have several of the Stacy King jerkbaits and have had some phenomenal days with them. You can frequently pick those up for 10.99 at BPS. Give them a try. Quote
