mikesjet Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I am headed up there tomorrow morning around 5am hopefully will do better than I have done there lately. I am heading to Ft. Hunter area water will be low but I should be able to move around some. Quote
mikesjet Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 What a waste!!!! Worked all around the bridge pilings and nothing. Water is very low really have to watch where you go. Through darn near everything I had without a strike. I am gonna stick to the Juniata from now on. Mike Quote
basser89 Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 That stinks! Sorry to hear that Mike! I had to laugh when you said you were going to stick to the Juniata though. The part of the Juniata I know best probably averages 2' or less. Good to know there are other sections that actually hold fish! LOL Quote
simplejoe Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Mike I had the same problem on the clarion river over the weekend, so I searched for deeper portions and BAM found them. I fished them for a little while and came back later with my son. Quote
mikesjet Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 Problem is with the Susky is that it is a mile wide and an inch deep even in good water levels LOL. I guess down around the three mile island and further down must be some deeper water. Mike Quote
simplejoe Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 When I'm on the Turnpike crossing over Susquehanna river is that why I don't see boats out there? I always say to myself crossing that bridge where are all the boats. Quote
mikesjet Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 Yes that river is not that deep at all. Majority of where I have been you need a jet outboard and a flatbottom get around much. I have a spectrum bass boat (not quite a flat bottom, not a full bass boat)with a 60hp merc jet and at full plane I only need about 10in of water but man those rocks are big and come out of no where. ptomacbass Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 the susquehanna has been terrible lately, I don't know why, I haven't landed a single smallmouth there during the summer though I only fished it twice. Quote
pcmc19057 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Hi MJ I was wading just north of harrisburg this past friday with my friend tony and we did fairly well. I got 14 and tony caught 9 but all his were over 2lbs and 3 were very nice size. Fishing the ledges with 4" sinko brand sticks and gammy finnise hooks 1/0. I'm going back up this friday. Paul Quote

Paul That had to be on the cold side! water temps down here are running in the upper 50's to low 60's! Have you ever the mouth of the Juniata? I haven't but I've heard there's some great smallie fishing there! Quote
bassnleo Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I have been fishing the Upper Alleghney, water temp was 49 degrees last evening and the fishin was AWESOME. This river is also shallow, Remember, this time of year the smallmouth will migrate toward their wintering areas which are usually deep, slow, pools. Cover alot of water with fast moving baits. Once you get a few strikes, slow down with tubes or jigs. My larger fish have been coming shallow but in or near a wintering area. I've been catching larger fish on jerkbaits. Numbers on tubes and drop shot worms. Quote
