Standout dropshot hooks?

Has any tried the standout dropshot hooks?  Thinking about trying some but have heard they don't have the best hookup ratio.

IMO a useless contraption.  Tie a Mosquito hook with a palomar, pass the tag end back through the eye of the hook and the hook will stand up.

I am going to have to be the dissenting vote on this one.  I use the standout hook almost exclusively and caught more bass (big and small) on this hook/technique last year than anything else I fished.

I used to be on a newsgroup on Usenet and frequently talked to the inventor of this hook.  His main beef with the hook fabricator was the length of the shank.  He wanted the hook set out a little more from the main line.  I believe this issue was corrected when they started making the standouts in larger bass sizes.

By the way, the inventor of the hook also preferred a drop shot method where the hook was presented on a loop suspended anywhere from three to six inches from the drop line.  He thought this imparted a much greater action to the bait.

1 or 2, mostly two. My environment doesn't dictate the need to go any bigger.

I bought a couple of packs of the standout hooks to try, but I misplaced them.  > I am a big fan of gammie split shot/drop shot hooks and an even bigger fan of the Mosquito. I give it the edge over the gammie.

The Gamakatsu WG finesse was all I fished for a long time.  It took one trip with the Mosquito to convince me to change.

I don't use mosquito hooks, because a lot of the places I dropshot are covers in weeds.   Re-Barbs in 1 or 1/0, t-rig, depending on the worm used.  The fish still set the hook themselves most of the time.

I use a mosquito hooks most of the time, but have used the standout hooks a couple of times.  I have never had any problem with hook ups,  I do notice a difference in the action compared to a normal DS hook though.

Good info. I have heard many times before this that the standout was supposed to give the bait more action.HMMM.Maybe not.

I am new to dropshotting and have no experience yet.I too was considering what kind of hooks to get.For starters I would get the mosquito,since I am a big fan of their other hooks.

I use the standout ones because I cannot tie the others right for some reason :-[. Most of the time I am drop shotting a small 3" minnow nose hooked so they work well for me.
