Black Bass Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I live in Deep South East Texas and buy as much of my fishing supplies as I can from Cabela's as I like thier customer service much better. I do agree that BPS has a much bigger selection of lures. However, a lot of them are nothing that I'd be interested in spending money on. Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I would say that Cabelas fishing dept. is more multi species than Bass Pro, but hey BASS is Basspro's main business. You are corect about thier hunting you should see the trophy mounts and the gun selection at their Hamburg PA store WOW!!!!!!!! The Hamburg PA cabela's is awesome. I like the Bass Pro catalogue better than the cabelas catalogue though. I go to BPS for all my fishing stuff and cabelas for hunting stuff. Quote
Shadrac Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 I actually wish they both did a much better job with their on-line stores and they save a few thousand trees a year. I know the next question is how to get people to go to their site- take their mailing list -send out a post card- put something creative on it like - "use this card and shipping is free" or words to that effect and people would go to the site. It would be interesting if not shocking to know what they spend on all the paper, ink and postage. Quote
Tpayneful Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 BPS catalog is WAY better than Cabelas! The reel description in Cabelas didn't even tell you how many bearings are in their house brand reels! How can I compare when their descriptions are a fraction of what you get in a BPS catalog? Quote
Guest muddy Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Actually if you click on buy reel there are boxes for each reel. They tell you bearing count, line capscity and spool size and sometimes inches of line per crank FOR ALL REELS. They have the Pflueger President, Trion and some Shimanos and Diawas not to mention almost the complete fenwick and all star lines and Bas Pro doesn't Quote
Tpayneful Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Muddy, I keep trying to click on the Cabelas catalog in my hands and nothing happens Quote
Guest muddy Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 OK BPS CATALOG Go to the Pflueger Baitcating page in the catalog: No Summit, No Patriarch , No President, No Trion, Go to THE Fenwick Page in BPS Only the HMG. ot to the All Star page: Only 3 rods available, NOW go To CABELAS CATALOG : SAME AREAS HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL FIND" Pflueger: President <Trion<Summit<Patriarch< Fenwick< Eagle GT<HMX,<HMG<Techna AV and the Classic all world reissue AllStar: Instinct<Team IM10's<Platniums< Classics and the ASR"S Now lets turn to the Cabelas Brand Reels; Oh whats this, PRODIGY and ZX ( BEARING COUNTS) maybe yours is a misprint Hows that ;D Quote
Tpayneful Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 It was a joke. The last Cabelas catalog that I got had only a tiny square for a prodigy reel with no bearing count. I looked at it specifically to compare it to BPS reels. I can't put my hands on it at this moment because I threw it away after I looked at it. If I missed it I am an idiot but the section was tiny compared to what BPS provides for each of their house reels. Ultimately I feel like the Cabelas catalog is from Mars for a Northern customer that may fish for LMB, SMB, Pike, Muskie or something else. The BPS catalog and company seems just right to me and my tastes. Maybe that is because I reside in a southern state and the focus of BPS is LMB. It is just my opinion and that is worth the price paid. Nothing. Quote
Guest muddy Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Hey T I know that thats why I posted the ;D on it Ehwn I am at work my little green guys can't get past the filter, I have no idea why. I thought the click remark about the cataloug was very funny Thats the exact reason why I like the Cabelas offerings because I am up north. Go to the prodigy page in the spring catalog gives the count. I like BPS house reels better than the cabelas line up. Cabelas just carries a lot more of the brands i use. I wish they would start carrying a lot more of the Okuma Line, I would love to try their stuff also. I like good solid stuff that fits my budget, I hope RW and Raul don't read this Quote
Tpayneful Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Muddy, Glad I didn't step on your crank! Actually my wifes name is on the Cabelas catalog! She is the only one that has purchased anything there! I think she got it from her daddy who is a big time hunter! It looks like all of my BPS reels are really Floooooger reels like yours! They even sound funny like the way people from the north talk! tntitans21399 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I shop Bass Pro because their is one in my town so I don't have to pay shipping. Both are close as in prices for the same or similar ideas, but by the time I pay for shipping from Cabelas it is cheaper for me to go to my local Bass Pro. Quote
