logger Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 How's everyone been doing out there? Horrible weather the past week and a half up here really windy and cold. Anyone finding fish on the beds in Northern MI yet? Quote

logger Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 Anyone have knowledge or experience on Burt Lake? I am heading there next weekend to fish Burt and the Pigeon River. Info on either would be great Logger Quote
Upnorth Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 In southwest michigan (Muskegon/WhiteLake) nothing on the beds yet, but the 'Trap bite is on fire. Smaller fish can be caught in the protected areas, but the bigger bites are still out in the grass. Quote
logger Posted May 9, 2008 Author Posted May 9, 2008 Thanks Upnorth keep us posted. Still getting down in the 30's at night up here and this wind has been ridiculous. Put it this way I am still scraping my windows on my car in the mornings. We could really use those 70+ degree days to get the bite going. Anyway, I was unable to get the boat in the water yesterday (the wife had the suv and I couldn't find anyone with a truck to go) so I put the waders on and hopped in the ausable for 3 hours. Caught a nice healthy 13"smallie which felt like a tank on my 9' ultralight I use for trout fishing plus he was in the current what blast that was. He hit a X-rap size 8 in the rainbow trout pattern. Lots of small trout on a panther martin but they were so small I couldn't stay hooked up. Still looking for Burt lake and Pigeon river info. Keep the reports coming guys ;D! Quote

pieman123 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I went on the Huron River today and got a number of bass and a carp. I managed to forget my camera. :'( Quote
Josey Wales Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Fishing has was fantastic for me and my partner last week. caught quite a few bass ranging between 2-4 pounds. Big silver lake the bite was good on shakey heads on seawalls and docks... The fish were just starting to move in. Seen a monster on that lake I swear she will go 6+ pounds. Also seen a pair of bass spawning on Little Silver lake. Pontiac lake was ok if you could get out of the wind and into the canals, while Maceday proved to have the largest fish of the week... A 5 pounder off a jerkbait on a windblown seawall... I go to fletchers for a Pike tourney between 14th and 17th. I will be on the lookout up there. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted May 12, 2008 Super User Posted May 12, 2008 Heading out to the lake in an hour - report to follow . . . A-Jay Quote
Andrew Coleman Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 i was at metro beach last saturday and cought 11 nice 3+ LM 1 baby bass, and a one LM that was a whopping 8lbs, ya i'de say things are goin good 8-) Quote
coolhandlala Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Burt lake has some great walleye fishing. I have never bass fished there so I can't help with that. For walleye I head to the north end of the lake and drift with 1/4-1/2oz jigs with a crawler or minnow on. Chart, white seem to be the most effective colors. I would love to try some of that new gulp alive up there in either the minnow or the leech. Quote
paragon Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Andrew I told you things would turn around at metro. Where you back in the canal/marsh or up front closer to the lake. Way to go, wheres the pics. Quote
Andrew Coleman Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 i have some pics on my phone but npt all of my fish. i had to climb down a steep bank to get to the spot, needing a free hand or two, so it was hard to grabe the phone to take a pic, but ill try and get them to ya. And yes i was back in the canal that is my permanet spot now, im heading there tommorrow after school to catch some moe with my bro. (NO HIJACKING INTENDED ) Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted May 13, 2008 Super User Posted May 13, 2008 Got back after sunset from my first trip on a "new" Lake near home - It turned out to be quite an afternoon - bagged my Personal best SMB ! I was alone so I went with the "net" photo - At just over 21" she was a TOAD ! She recovered quickly from her photo op - and splashed my face for good measure as she swam off . . . . . . Looks like it's gonna be a good Year ! A-Jay Quote

A-Jay dude... that is a REALLY nice fish... what else ya get???????? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted May 13, 2008 Super User Posted May 13, 2008 I took a 16" smb first from the same spot - 10 minutes later I was being towed around the lake by that U-boat of a bass. She put up a spirited fight but the 54 degree water temps were a factor. If she was a little warmer I bet I would have been treated to a series "air show" A-Jay Quote
misfit1III8 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 nice.... Im headin out tomorrow.. I had planned on going saturday morning but the flu had other ideas... :'( you really seem to be bangin those smallies up there in those parts.. come on down here for a LM and Pike fest!! Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted May 13, 2008 Super User Posted May 13, 2008 So I heard - Hope you beat'em up ! Guess you know where I'll be ? 8-) A-Jay Quote
logger Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 I went yesterday and got permission to try fishing a local golf course pond. I wanted to try out my new set up. I have a bionic blade MH paired with a BPS extreme spinning reel and power pro line. I really like it, the only problem was that I didn't have my drag adjusted properly so when this monster LMB (I mean easily 4.5 ++lbs) I brought him close to shore and he had one last jump then came back down without my x rap in his mouth. I was sick, :'( it would have easily been my new PB but at least I know where to go to find him again. I also caught the 2 biggest bluegill of my life both on the same xrap. They were over 1 lb each. Heading to Burt Lake on thrusday... I can't wait. Quote
bassdocktor Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Not much of a report but I fished from the DNR boat ramp at Brandywine on Saturday and came up with 2 little guys. One about 10 and the other a 12. Both were in the same spot, closer in that normal and on the right side looking out. Quote
brgbassmaster Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 hey guys ya my buddy back home in northern mid michigan has been slaying the largemouth and smallmouth. he caught a 6lber on a white buzzbait two days ago along with a number of 2lbers. also on shallow cranks he has been doing really well. just reeling the baits through the shallow wood cover in coves. also the smallmouth he has been catching one was 19" probably 3.5-4lbs prespawn fish. the rest of the smallies were about 2lbs. he was catching them in a river about 45minutes from my hometown. those were caught on a white spinnerbait and a manns baby 1minus. throwing it right uup against the bank for fish that are moving up. cant tell you what river because its a gem that no one knows that there are giant smallies in there. we have caught numerous 4-5lbers and i caught a 6lber out of there. just small creek that we wade. but ya hope you guys are catching some. oh and he saw a few fish on beds. Super User A-Jay Posted May 15, 2008 Super User Posted May 15, 2008 Heading out in Otsego County this afternoon. Hoping for the "Sun Shine Bite " A-Jay Quote
