Tokyo Tony Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Hey guys, take a minute and think back to your winter depression and how you couldn't wait for the ice to clear and for the warm weather to come. Well, it's here! I know it's been here for a while, but I was just thinking about how much I complain about the winter and the ice and snow, and how once we reach about the middle of summer, I start taking the great weather and warmth for granted. Well, I'm definitely not taking this weather for granted - it's absolutely perfect. Highs in the mid to high 80's, sunny, clear, with a slight breeze 8-) Quote
basser89 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Who stops fishing when there's a little snow or the ground? ;D I'm lucky enough to be a little farther south than you Tony but I also have two warm water discharge areas to fish for smallies in the winter if the lakes are iced over. There's nothing like being out in the middle of the winter with a fresh coat of snow on the ground with a spot all to myself! Wait a minute! Then spring would be just around the corner and I can catch them in the prespawn! ;D Quote

Plus, the river doesn't fully ice up everywhere, even in NY. Come about august, believe it or not, I start dreaming about winter fishing. Being alone on the river, 28 degrees out, snow falling, big fish on the lurk, I love it. November thru January is one of my favorite times to fish. Oh yeah, and there is also ice fishing! So far my biggest LM this year came through the ice. Got him SUper Bowl Sunday, then m,y Giants won. Heck of a day! Quote
Zel Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Yeah it's nice... but here we missed out on spring this year. And spring weather is my favorite for bass fishing. Seems like it went right from winter to summer. Quote
DoNKeYMEAT Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I'm taking full advantage of the weather... I'm getting on or in the water at least 4-6 days a week... Hit some lakes with the boat and when I want to save on gas I just go do some river fishing... Quote

I'd rather drink indoors. I catch trout on the weekends to get my fix, but it's just not the same. Plus I can't fish after work, unless I go really crazy and go winter night trout fishing by myself during the week. I actually did that last winter and this might be the only place I'd admit it :-[ By the way, trout fishing this time of year SUCKS. There are just millions of people lining the shore - it's ridiculous. In the winter I only see the occasional fly fisherman. I'd much rather go for trout in the winter. Quote

I like to head north of me and go to the Finger Lakes in NY State... Two of them (Cayuga and Seneca) have bubbler units to keep a launch or two open year round... The lakes don't freeze over and the fishing is awesome when it's cold out... Plus it's cheap as hell to get a place there after september.... Quote
