macmaster761 Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 i fish the charles in the natick sherborn medway areas upstream, never caught anything using a spinnerbait, however spinners like the mepps kill in the early spring, also I threw one of those bass pro super shallow crank baits yesterday and the thing hit on the first cast, it got hung up in a tree and to make a long story short, i fell in the river twice and I reeked. But come to think of it I don't catch much on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits on any body of water in our area... Quote
CRFisher Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I think I'll officially retire my spinnerbaits from the Charles, save them for a lake or pond. I pretty much go from Rapala's to a Mepps or maybe a Jitterbug then to wacky worms. They eventually have to hit something. As long as the herring are running I find silvery rapalas or a silver flatfish is working best but not sure if they run much past Waltham. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Just release them and let them eat all the young bass...A good pickeral is a dead one,as far as I'm concerned....Good luck catching pickeral. :'( A little education goes a long way. BLUEGILL do far more egg eating damage than Pickerel. A healthy pickerel population controls the bluegill population. Without a solid representation of all size Pickerel at our lake, the B/G population would surely take over. Sytems are balanced for a reason, selectively harvesting a certain specie because you don't like them is nothing but irresponsible. We have educated biologists who are trained to assess population status, leave that to them. Just my .02 for what it's worth. Quote

Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 MackkieThe place in Central MA I fish is in Harvard - It's called Bare Hill. It's 315 acres and very beautiful. There is a public beach, but they charge $25 per launch. I'm pretty sure after 5:00 p.m. it's free. I know someone on the pond and they let me leave my boat docked for the season. It really doesn't get fished alot, probably because of the high launch fee. Huge population of LMB and some smallies. Most of the fish we catch range between 1.5 to 5.5 - the deepest I've found is 27 feet, but for the most part it's a shallow pond - lot's of cover - some structure. There are a few rocky shorelines and a ton of hydrilla. If you decide to go sometime, I would be gald to tell you some of my hotspots! Good Luck. This is Redtails place VIDEO Quote
sdcoll Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 was anyone able to confirm that bare hill in harvard was free after 5pm,,,,,i tried looking into this but was unable to find anything like that.any info would be nice.im about 10-15 min from there Quote
Ifish4keeps Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 ive been getting some bites on topwater, some homemade poppers and ive been nailing 'em on drop shots, shakey heads, flick shakes and jigs around structure. Quote
Ifish4keeps Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 just wanted to hello and to say that we have our our place now i see.i pontoon float central ma ponds rivers if there's any tuber or floaters wanting to wet a line hit me up.now on another note i don't kill pickerel nor any other fish but there is this place i fish that they have been doing this for yrs now and the only fish this pond has is lmb, smb, sunfish and needless to say i rarely catch anything under 2.5 lbs and 4-5 r common.oh by the way don't bother asking where cause i don't kiss and tell now i hear the subury river has big fish well lets see cause im getting ready to hit that place hard. have you heard any hot lures to use on the sudbury river because i live in sudbury and havent fished there yet this year, might go out there tomorrow. SimonDM17 Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Go Froggin' on the Sudbury! Do it! Seriously, do it. My last two trips have been cut short by thunderstorms, but I've averaged two 2-3 pound bass and a couple dinks per hour, and I lost a couple 4+ boatside. About ten bass in a total of two hours of fishing. Hit the mats. If they miss the frog, toss a fluke as a follow-up. They'll nail it, but all the fish have been up REAL tight to cover, usually matted vegetation, so they don't come out to chase the fluke. But if they just missed the frog, they'll take the fluke instead. Quote
Redtail Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 SDCOLL - I'm going either tonight or tomorrow night - I will go over to the launch area and see what I can find out. Quote
mackkie Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Where is the launch you are talking about on the Sudbury? Do you launch small boats in there, or could a 17' bass boat fit in there? Quote
sdcoll Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 thankz redtail ,its much appreciate been wanting to go but as gas goes up the funds for fun is limited............ Quote
Redtail Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 sdcoll-the boat launch is at the public beach (Harvard residents only). I talked to one of the high school kids that works there. He said they usually leave at 5:00 p.m. unless there are a lot of people at the beach. In that case they stay later. I guess there is no set time as to when they leave unfortunately. If you live in Leominster, it's only about a 12 mile drive for you which isn't too bad even if you had to wait a bit. Sorry, that's the best I could get for you. Quote
sdcoll Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 thanks redtail, good to hear , sounds like ill hitting it atfer 6 on a nice evening 8-) Quote
