tritz18 Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Hey guys weather's been pretty nice the past week, getting ready for some weekend fishing. Any tips on where have u guys been catching them and what ur using. For me its been soft plastics around shallow cover. Quote
Basshole18 Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Texas rigged tubes/craws, and flippin' jigs w/ chigger chunk trailers (Berkley) around shallow structure. Lay downs and grass have been good. Lily pads that have just started poppin' up are producing really well. The Strike King Rage Tail Craw has been AMAZING. I've been t-rigging it on a 3/0 EWG hook, with a 3/16 oz. weight. I just pitch it to shallow cover and hop it slowly and frequently. When the bite seems to slow I will hop it even slower but then suddenly do a hard, fast hop/jerk and that seems to trigger big reaction strikes from them. I've also caught some big females off of beds. I caught a 5 pounder off a bed and had to annoy her for about 20 minutes before I found the "sweet spot" on the bed and she bit. The bite has been amazingly good. I am on Cape Cod. I have a tournament this weekend and cannot wait. Me and my partner WILL take 1st. Period. Quote
macmaster761 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 not doin so well durin the day, night and morning are key, been using minnowlike crankbaits, some with joints, yamamoto senkos have been killing as usual, been getting a lot of pickerel, some times even more than bass in the metrowest fisheries Quote
WTRDOG Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 been getting a lot of pickerel, some times even more than bass in the metrowest fisheries ..... Quote
WTRDOG Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Just release them and let them eat all the young bass...A good pickeral is a dead one,as far as I'm concerned....Good luck catching pickeral. :'( Quote
macmaster761 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 most of the pickerel i catch probably die later anyways cause those stupid fish get the d**n hooks so far down their throats and in their heads anyways, but still, i don't think i would purposely kill one... arent they good eating if their in safe water? Quote
Basshole18 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I read somewhere once that Picks eat like up to a million bass fry a day. I, too, have no problem with dead pickeral. I have a 135 acre lake 10 yards from my back door and we kill all pickeral we catch and bass fishing has improved. They are useless. Quote
WTRDOG Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Or you pull up the trolling motor and drop them on the prop while on 100. Tin, The one good thing you guys have,in regards to me fishing in R.I. is that I'm controling the pickeral population. Quote
Kozak Posted June 7, 2008 Posted June 7, 2008 Tritz, I'd try topwater frogs around any weeds you can find for starters. I'd then try a wacky rig or weightless texas rigged worm in shallow water and then working deeper until you find the fish. If nothing else prevails, try using a spinnerbait and look for a reaction strike, this could give you an idea of where fish may be holding. Quote
tritz18 Posted June 7, 2008 Author Posted June 7, 2008 Yea I have been successful so far with wacky rigged senkos, texas rigged havent produced yet for me. i will try frogs, just purchased a spro frog so i'm excited to get that out on the water. thanks everyone. good luck and keep posting ur results Quote
tritz18 Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Frogs worked great for me last trip and senkos also did Quote
Redtail Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I have done extremely well in Central MA with a Fat Ika - fished just as you would a senko. You may not get as many fish as you would with a senko - but I have found the fish are bigger. Last Saturday I only got 4 in two hours, but one was 4.9 Pliars in their eyes, dropping pickerel on a trolling motor - dudes find a better way to dispose if you must - that's a bit sick. Quote
masscj7 Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Wow, How about that respect of nature out of sportsman. Wonder why we take so much crap from environmentalists and animal rights groups. Why do you hunt and fish? Well, I love the outdoors, being with nature, taking in the beauty of the land and animals, oh hand me those pliers or pull the prop up, gotta make some more beauty. Expect that off a kids forum, not from mostly adults. Quote
HOIST-N-HAWGS Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Let's see if I can lightin things up a bit. Tips for Mass ? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Stay the heck out of P-TOWN :-* Quote

You may not get as many fish as you would with a senko - but I have found the fish are bigger. Last Saturday I only got 4 in two hours, but one was 4.9 Thats good to hear. Where about in Central MA do you like to go around here? I have been to Ft Meadow (Marlboro) and Chauncy (Westboro). I am looking to expand into some other good fishing waters around here, but cant seem to come up with many others? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks! And my .02, respect the wildlife and dont mess with fish population because you happen to like catching just bass. Trust me, i get just as mad when i catch a pickerel, but no matter what i catch, i catch and release. Quote
Redtail Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Mackkie The place in Central MA I fish is in Harvard - It's called Bare Hill. It's 315 acres and very beautiful. There is a public beach, but they charge $25 per launch. I'm pretty sure after 5:00 p.m. it's free. I know someone on the pond and they let me leave my boat docked for the season. It really doesn't get fished alot, probably because of the high launch fee. Huge population of LMB and some smallies. Most of the fish we catch range between 1.5 to 5.5 - the deepest I've found is 27 feet, but for the most part it's a shallow pond - lot's of cover - some structure. There are a few rocky shorelines and a ton of hydrilla. If you decide to go sometime, I would be gald to tell you some of my hotspots! Good Luck. Quote

Bass Tard Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Bass fishing makes my eyes red.. IN THE HOCKOMOCK SWAMP,MA. Gender: I don't think it's the bass that makes your eyes red. You're a sick puppy doing that to a pickerel or anything else for that matter. Quote

CRFisher Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 to go back on topic, anyone fish the Charles in Boston area? Had lots of luck with Flatfish, Minnows/Rapalas (mostly Wal Mart cheapies) and inline spinners (Mepps & Rooster Tails). Less luck with Bass Assassins (3" shad) and wacky rigged worms. I haven't heard of anyone having much luck with a spinnerbait or buzzbait on the Charles. I've fished quite a bit and almost exclusively on t he Charles (although took a number of years off) and most I've had on a standard spinnerbaits was a single, over eager crappie about the size of the spinnerbait. No luck at all with buzzbaits either. Is this a Charles River phenomenom? I've gotten Bass, Pike, Crappie and Pickerel on inline spinners, nothign with a standard spinnerbait. Quote
