Hi all, I have some vacation time coming in June and plan to go see friends up north. Got a place on Bungy Lake in Woodstock,CT; was wondering if any of you northerners have fish on it, or if ya might tell me of a peaceful place to fish from the shore. Would most likely be with my son, so something kinda close to Woodstock. Thanks ;D

I live a few miles from Bungee. Excellent fishing and you should try witches woods which bungee flows into. If you can legally access bungee you should be able to do the same at witches woods. there is some shore access to witches by the waterfall that flows into witches. Also the discharge of witches is good nice mowed lawn. couple hundred yards of good shore access plus it is not too far from where you are. That is all for the immediate area. P.M. me and i'll tell ya some other spots you could drive to in a short amount of time.

Thanks for the info -- yes I have full access to Bungee since my friend owns the house I'll be staying at. I ain't all that familiar with the CT area, and will most likely be spending most of my time at the house, which was why I was wonderin' about fishing on Bungee.  I did a search of this area online and found a park area, which I believe was on the water as well, any clue as to access there? I prefer talk on the forum-aint real keen on the PM- si if you could let me know 'bout any other areas for me and my boy- I sure would be greatful.

I believe the park area is on the peninsula where the boat launch is. there is some decent fishing there. But otherwise the lake is very heavily developed, there isn't alot of walkable shore to fish. I think you would be better off on witches woods by the outflow dam. The shoreline there is a pretty good fishing. My buddies and I will usually go there for a quick non boating outing. If I had to shorefish locally anywhere this is where I would go. If you want to drive 10-15 minutes for other shore access I would suggest West Thompson d**n(lotsa shore access) or Roseland lake( nice shaded playground there for the kid)

Roseland- that was the name of the "park" i was trying to remember. I will also check out witches woods since you recommended it so highly. Can you recommend a bait for these waters?

Roseland is about 6 miles from Bungee. Senkos(or any other kindof stickbait)have been productive in orange pumpkin or green watermelon at both locations, natural colored jigs are not a bad idea also.

I was wondering if you've ever caught anything worth keeping from the waters we've discussed? I hear alot of the fish up your way aint fit for cooking- due do pollution in some areas.  No disrespect meant to anyone from CT, just what I had heard from people hear who came from up that way.

If your looking to eat some of the fish you catch I would not be concerned in the least. I have consumed just about every kind of fish that swims up here and am not worried about pollution in the least. This is not the first time I have heard this. It is amazing how quickly RUMORS can snowball.I read the D.E.P. literature every year on safe fish consumption from connecticut waters and there are only a few places in the entire state listed as not safe for consumption(due to high levels of pcbs etc.), all of which are on the complete other side of the state. And further more if said pollution rumors were true myself, and my buddies would've had spare arms growing out of our foreheads many many years ago. Also, no offense taken

I noticed from your other posts that you have a lil one as well, have you taken her to fish on Bungee or witches woods? I will be having my boy with me -he's using his spongebob fishing gear-- he and I are kinda new to fishing together on our own--so I guess I am wondering if the areas we have talked about are "safe" and good for kids? ;D

I have taken her several times to witches woods and to a number of other places but those were out of my boat. The reason I suggested the places I did was they are the most kid friendly places around where you are going to be located. I would suggest the witches woods location by the outflow d**n because of a large grassy shore. Easy to keep an eye on the little one. All these places you can catch bass on senkos or other stickbaits( keeping it simple)If you elect to fish with bobber and worm you will have no shortage of action from bluegills to calicos to bass( even a good chance of bullhead later in the day/early evening)Roseland is great, shore access is a little smaller than witches but no biggie. But Roseland has trails and a nice playground which my wife and daughter absolutely love.

I want to thank you for all your helpful information on this, to you and the other members of this forum I am greatful. I'm glad there are people who are willing to help out a "newbie" like myself, people who are willing to share their fav. fishing spots and secrets.

My son and I did catch a carp this past weekend at a lake close to home, we did the catch and release--I dont weigh the fish but it had to be at least two pounds--we caught it in the cove area of the lake, near a fallen tree. We didnt have much luck after that catch, but he does seem to enjoy reeling those fish in when it happens.
