GARBUDAH Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I never see anything about Kentucky fishing. Figured I would see how many Kentucky fishermen and fisherwomen we have. Maybe share some secrets. OK have fun and safe fishin! ;D My lake is Rough River, love that place! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 13, 2008 Super User Posted May 13, 2008 Well, we have quite a few members from Kentucky and most of them fish Barkley and Kentucky Lakes. Generally, you will see their posts in the "Tournament or Outing" section if the topic is "fishing" rather than equipment. BTW, Next year's BassResource.com Roadtrip is being held at Kentucky Lake! 8-) Quote
GARBUDAH Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 Anyone have any info on Barren River Lake? Will be fishing a tourney this weekend. I've got some good spots, and feel good about the trip. Any advice would be cool though, thanks. Quote
wowyo Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 BRL is one of my favorite lakes to fish... however I haven't been out on that body of water this year(I've been hitting smaller water). All my sources have stated how slow the fishing has been. Last year the lake level was left relatively low for some reason (ramp construction?). Then of course some drought maintained the low level. From what I understand when the lake turnedover there had been a significant fish kill. I don't know how it's affected LMB, but the Hybrids haven't been there so far this year. Give a review of your tourney and any info you get whilst there. Quote
GARBUDAH Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 Coldthrilla, I had no luck fishing at all. Tried on the points, bays, grass, everywhere I would think they would be and no luck. I even broke out the C-Rig which always catches me at least one fish. I was there last year too, and it was so low it was ridiculus. Sad to say I am starting to think I don't like this lake anymore, it is very beautiful though. Now there was fish caught in the tourney, not a lot except who came in first and they had 17 lbs. Everyone else had maybe one or two fish, no limits. I will be fishing again in my club later this year, give it a chance to redeem its self. Thanks for the reply. Quote
Big Tom Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I picked Cave Run because its the only lake on your list that I can actually say I have fished. I catch em on rock ledges right of the bank using mostly soft plastics. Any Kentuckians ever fish Yatesville Lake? Quote
basspimple Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 so there is some ky folks on here. i have to say i have never fished any of those lakes, mostly because of me being 16. do fish talorsville a lot though. its right outside of louisville. Quote
Ranger461 Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I am from the shelbyville area, and I tend to fish taylorsville and Guist creesk being that they are only 20 mins away. but I am still fairly new the the bass fishing game and have a lot to learn. it make it even harder when these two lake are fished to death. jasone Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 I used to live 15 minutes from KY lake but like a dope I packed up and moved to Georgetown. I loved KY lake but it really is a hard lake to fish. People think you pull up on a ledge and start casting. Totally wrong!! CJ can vouch for that. I'm close to Cave Run. I've been to Guist but Ranger is right, you pretty much have to fish on a Friday around here because by Saturday at 8am, people are anchored over the good spots. J Quote
eastkybass Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 When I get to go fish Yatesville but since joining a club in Feb I have been trying a few new places. Quote
Stratos282 Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Hey there Big Tom. We hit Yatesville every chance we get but I would like to give Dewey a try. I know it has some good fish but I can't seem to get a bite there. Does anyone out there fish it? Quote
The Rooster Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I'm torn between Yatesville Lake and Grayson Lake. Grayson has way better cover with all the rocks under water. Ledges everywhere, coves with stumps in them, drop offs, laydowns, just tons of things to fish. But I really do like Yatesville's Greenbrier area with all the shallow water stumps it has in it. It's the only lake I can fish from the bank and consistantly catch fish. But usually I'm in my boat so that's not a huge issue. If I was pressed to pick one, I'd probably say Grayson just cause it has many more types of cover and structures, whereas I feel Yatesville is pretty much the same all over it with a few exceptions here and there. But I love them both really. Just stay away from Greenbo Lake.......if there ever was a DEAD SEA, that's IT!! Quote
TBAG Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Gonna have to go with Cedar Creek lake, awesome fishing, and no pleasure boating. The lake was built just for fishing. Quote
Aaron Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I had to go with Barkley. I had better luck there, and unless the water is high there is not as much pleasure traffic as KY (if they know what's good for them). I use to drive of KY lake to go fish on Barkley. I have also fished Cumerland, Malone (another good lake), and really want to fish Cave Run in the near future. Quote
