fishnaddiction Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 well the channel bite depends on if the fish are on the edge of the canyon or inside it  if they are on the edge i use a yum crawbug on a shaky head if they are inside a craw color trig senko  for the grass bite it depends on the time of year  for the spawn i will use a powerbeast  in the summer if the fish are really on the piles a x rap ripping hard through the grass  if there is alot of fish in the grass and inbetween patchs i will use a senko with a small piece of lead in it rigged weightless texas  so i just tick the top of the weeds and let it sink in the holes   usally if the water is low and clear the fish are hidding deep in the weeds if the water is low and overcast or murky they are on the piles   Quote
smallieking Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 o wow  lot of info thanks  i try topwater and flukes but never have much success  if we get a chance to go to that river together  u will have to show me how to fish that ditch or trench u are talking about  it sounds awesome Quote
fishnaddiction Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 heddon torpedos work pretty good if the grass flat is shallow  i never tryed flukes  hmmm  i dont do very good on them anywhere on that river   yea the channel is neat  i like that entire hole   the broken dam really holds fish  then there is a grade slope from the camp side then there is a shelf on the away side with alot of bank grass  then on the top side of the hole there is a bunch of medium size rock with that channel  pike and musky sit in the hole alot too though which sucks Quote
smallieking Posted March 2, 2008 Author Posted March 2, 2008 yea i cant stand those things   those broken dams and wingdams on that river really produce alot of fish   its hard to find some of the points/wingdams though sometimes  there are alot of them up there in bedford/camp hartley area Quote
fishnaddiction Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 o really?  a buddy of mine has a camp just one hole above hartley  wow  he has a boat on the river there and we always go fishing  but target docks, bluffs and deep coves  hmm  i got to check that out next time im over there  Quote
smallieking Posted March 3, 2008 Author Posted March 3, 2008 bluffs?  really  what presentations do u use for them  i know of a few little ones and i dont change up my presentation and catch some off of them  Quote
fishnaddiction Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 o man really?  if i find one i can spend all day there catching nice fish  for the steeper and deeper ones no pun intended  i like a carolina rig, a grub, or a suspending jerkbait   if they are steep but kinda shallow i fish with a craw or small jig  if the bluffs arent as steep and taper  i like using jigs, topwater poppers or even crankbaits  my buddy is pretty good at fishing the tapering bluffs  he uses craws alot  he can really finess the thing around rock piles  lol  yea well i guess he would have to be pretty good at fishing them  he fishes them all the time Quote
smallieking Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 o really wow  i never really fished them on that river  i mean i seen one and would quick cast it and catch some but i for what ever reason really never took the time to fish them throughly  hmm they dont look good for holding fish  hmm  thats something i will have to look into  Quote
fishnaddiction Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 wow really?  yea some bluffs are alot better than others  the best ones i found were at my buddy's camp  there are alot but few that are deep or tapering  but the fish do hold on them  the bigger ones have random rock and some grass on them  those are the ones you want to target  if there was ever a tournament on raystown branch that would be what i would target because it is one of the few pieces of structure u are sure to catch at least a few good size ones off  that and deeper random rock piles Quote
smallieking Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 hmm yea now i really want to go to the river with u so u can show me some and how to fish them  hmm  do u have any certain presenations for them? Quote
fishnaddiction Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 no not really  my buddy really stressed that u must drag the bait on teh bottom instead of hopping it  and fish very slow  he said that the fish hold on irregular features on the bluffs or points and when you must keep in contact with the bait  then when u find a rock or weed  just shake the bait there and u will get bite  when we go we both catch fish but he definetly catches bigger ones  he fishes painfully slow but it works  that might be why your overlooking the area  Quote
smallieking Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 hmm yea possible  i just normally cast and bounce the bottom  yea im going to have to try slowing down  i got to check into that bluff bite.  what types of jigs do u use Quote
fishnaddiction Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 well a simple bitsy bug 1/8 ounce jig should is great  well  if im actually planning on just fishing bluffs i will use a 3/16 ounce finess jig  then if they are really hitting it and there are some bigger ones on it  i will cast a 1/2 ounce denny braurer pro stike jig    my buddy only uses yum crawbugs  im dont even sure he owns a jig  lol  im sure he does but he really really likes that craw  Quote
smallieking Posted March 6, 2008 Author Posted March 6, 2008 hmm  yea i was thinking a c-rig would be a pretty good bait for them too   i need to find some this year   how can u tell a good one from a bad one? Quote
fishnaddiction Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 idk i never tried a crig   a well really the only way to know is casting to it an feeling how deep it is   if teh water is clear and your on a boat u can sometimes see them and see special features on them   im trying to get my buddy to get on this site but he wont  idk why Quote
smallieking Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 o ok  yea i have never fished that river off a boat  lol  yea  talk him into it  i would llike to get more information on fishing them   Quote

fishnaddiction Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 yea  there is a turnpike bridge just upstream from his camp from that bridge down to teh camp i fish   the turnpike bridge is just downstream of teh 30 bridge Quote
smallieking Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 is the 30 bridge the bridge just above huckabee's and sheetz?  well i fish just upstream from that  then i fish somewhere below that behind the walmart Quote

Pittsburgh Reeler Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 smallie- Â last fished the OH 2x and the mon once. Â this year, allegheny is on our shedule. Â but since i live pretty close to the southside, sometimes i fish the Mon there from shore off behind 18th street. Paangler- Gander Mt. in J-town is one of the better Ganders I have seen. Quote
