smallieking Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 yea smallmouth there are spots that u can fish off of the bank and still catch fish this time of year well first u will need really deep water there will have to be some type of structure there i really like a grouping of random rocks in deep water so move around fishing really deep water intil u find the fish it will probably take a lot of searching to find a hole holding alot of fish but if u find a spot really deep that is holding fish it will produce all winter long intil the water warms up and the fish start to move to prepare for the spawn put a senko on a jighead and fish very slowly Quote
fishnaddiction Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 hey smallie just wondering if u went out today? the weather is great i should have contacted u tis morning about going to stoney creek o well i just was wondering if u went out ttyl hey smallmouth when are u going out again? Quote
smallmouthbeginner Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I dont know, but my friend fly fishes stony all the time. Didnt know you fished it! Im probably going out when the water warms up, cant find any deep spots from the bank around here. Quote
smallieking Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 o sorry thought there was no there is a stoney creek about 10 minutes from fishn's house yea i couldnt my neighbor the one who is taking me to the susqehanna called around 11 or 12 asking me if i wanted to go fishing at the 3 rivers seen the water was nice. well fishn we went to a spot on the mon and it was about 30 feet deep with some logs and stuff on the bottom we fished around it with some senkos and jigs nothing i was actually surprised the sun was very hot and the temp wasnt bad so we decided to go alittle shallower we found a hump about 10 feet deep with 20 foot dropoffs on each side We hammered them!!!! i caught 6 and he caught 5 all smallmouth and the biggest one i caught was about 13 inches great day!!! Quote
fishnaddiction Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 o man sounds like a great time so u found those 2 spots with your depth finder? did u take your boat or your neihbors? well anyways sounds like a great day. i was stuck i should have went somewhere but i didnt well congrats on teh great day well u know im going to ask what size color and weight of the lures u were using? Quote
smallieking Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 yea well i knew where the first spot was from when i normally go we just had to scan around to locate it then the hump we found was awesome we where just idling up the river about 20 yds from the bank and the graph shot up then back down i was on my neighbors boat but he let me have the trolling motor since i knew where to fish at the deep structure i was casting out a football head 1/2 ounce jig with a pork trailer i was switching up with the senko alot too. well at the hump i was dead sticking a pegged t rig with a screw in 3/8 ounce weight the senko i was using was actually a 5 inch wave worm tiki-stick in watermelon/red flake which is pretty much black with some red flake i was casting then bounceing the bottom til i knew i was on the hump then just let the bait sit right there and those smallies were just smacking it Quote
